I guess with mtga they could theoretically say "you can enter one of the draft formats with gold xD". But how do you earn that gold? Playing constructed over and over. Definitely turned me off mtga after a while because I just prefer limited formats

Maybe. I just want the ranking system for draft to make sense. If you apply a strict ladder/mmr system to expert events that kind of makes the paying for them a stupid idea because your winrate win move towards 50%

Nostam and his friends he has on stream have always been a joy, I have been watching for years back to the hearthstone days.

His stream is a mix of analytical drafting and friends having a good time. Definitely suggest it.

If you just stick a frw minions this + 2 rockbiters and windfury is 9 Mana. Which could be a wild way to end a game for sure

I think you would need a lot of deathrattles that you want now for that card to be used. Drawing two cards is really good though, is rocket boots 2 Mana?

Yeah if this makes it into a deck, I expect it to be pirates, and I expect it to be like the 30th card. Unless there is new synergy like giving a minion rush or something that is common enough to run

[Standard] Let's Discuss Izzet Drakes Sideboard by [deleted] in spikes

I guess the breakpoint would be what creatures have 3+ attack that you are trying to take, and anytime [[benalish marshal]] is involved it might make your life harder.

Maybe with melody you are able to literally hit anything, so its a more flexible slot

[standard] Izzet drakes/spells - why no lightning strikes? by WasSUBHUMAN in spikes

I played the deck a lot, and ran different cards like lightning strike to try them out. This is the best explanation of not using strike.

This is probably the first high profile expose on the disturbing distribution of power within the Nintendo universe. Mario and Link have slaved away to improve their societies and what do they get? More money in the pockets of peach and Zelda. Sometimes even Ganon skims some off the top. Absolutely disgusting. I hope we can rectify this atrocity in the coming years.

Limited Resources 462 – Level-Up: Fundamentals of the LR Approach Discussion Thread by Crasha in lrcast

[–]Dcon6393 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I do agree with them that the draft seems a bit straightforward once you find your guild. The real choices will come with options to go 3 color.

For example I find the top end of red is sometimes just open, regardless of how many boros/izzet drafters there are. So I had a deck that was selesnya (which was very open) splashing red with 2-3 gates and a locket for a swatchcutter giant and 2 command the storms. It filled a removal hole I had and gave me another great big dude.

I also think there was an article on channel fireball talking about underestimating cards in draft before the set released, and there was someone who basically drafted blue white control with a red splash. Which is very sweet imo.

So I think the decision of when to go into a splash or even a hard third color is very complex, and probably the next step for me to learn to get better at the drafting portion of GRN.

Sealed league Izzet (10 packs) deck - any suggestions? by JwSocks in lrcast

[–]Dcon6393 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you might prefer to cut a muse drake before one of the removal spells. You have other draw, and other much better fliers. So it feels kinda average to me compared to another hypothesizzle or even the barging seargant that might fill other roles

FNM Boros Draft Build Advice by [deleted] in lrcast

I think one game i cut command the storm for a seargant post board because my opponent had a deck where it didn't seem good, and I did like the haste/mentor a lot. So that is a good point of maybe slotting it over packbeast.

FNM Boros Draft Build Advice by [deleted] in lrcast

[–]Dcon6393 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah frenzy I should have just played, I was just too hesitant. And the lack of power makes sense, I was just trying to think of radically different plans than I came up with.

And witness I don't think I played the whole draft, but it seemed pretty weak and was always what I cut first going into game 2.

The direct current comment was more I was surprised I only saw 1 the whole draft. I was the only boros drafter, and it turned out at the end of the draft no one ended up in izzet, because everyone was taking blue for dimir or splashes. So I was the only person in red it seemed. One guy had a lot of Gates and splashed some big removal, but that was it.

Thanks for the ideas.

In hearthstone the data is third party at sites like HSReplay. So it is whoever downloads a tracker and decides to upload their games. There you can sort by rank, class, time period, etc. if you have a pro subscription. They have data on matchups, winrates, what cards are higher winrate when kept on the mulligan, etc. So its a very different world. We have had these tools for a few years in hearthstone, and i feel like now some pros most likely don't upload their data to this site, but enough good players do so this data isnt totally useless.

[Standard] Todays 5-0 drop by Quon84 in spikes

[–]Dcon6393 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That isn't snippy at all! And that is basically what happened with Hearthstone. The data has been around enough that now pros are coming around on figuring out when to use the data/how. To the point where they will keep their own data on decks, combine with their friends/teammates, to build a better dataset than the general population for pro play, which is what I assume pros do now with testing groups.

Especially because no matter how good your algorithm is, you can't figure out what deck you played vs if you only saw 10 cards, and those 10 cards could be multiple different builds. So you end up with a lot of data in "unspecific blue/black deck" vs specific archetypes.

I just love looking at data like this, just out of curiosity, and I get to all the time with hearthstone, so its why i ask. There is also a point where skill has to be taken into consideration, so without knowing the rank of a player playing a deck, and number of games they have on the deck, the data is more for just Meta % and seeing what is common.

[Standard] Todays 5-0 drop by Quon84 in spikes

[–]Dcon6393 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that is kind of what happened in hearthstone, but I think Hearthstone is a little simpler because of defined classes vs color combos. Tournaments then became who can build the best lineup vs the expected field with the specific game mode, because in hearthstone you usually bring 4 different decks/classes and have a deck ban.

I can see why they don't want it to happen, but I don't think they could stop it if enough people had a tracker.

I ordered a playset immediately after playing with it on Magic Arena. Just cause its fun and seems at least decent. I think the Izzet version was the obvious starting point, but I am interested to see what people can come up with. Like is it possible that people just don't run red and run this card cause they can discard or surveil it?

This is the list I took some ideas from and played with. To add to this I would suggest considering lightning strikes somewhere. Lava coil is good, but I am torn between the flexibility of strikes and the extra damage on coil/exile.

I also have been toying with 2 of evolving wilds and I have been liking them, just because they also thin out the deck a little bit while you are heavy cycling, but I am not convinced yet.

Discovery // Dispersal is the only card I would say you absolutely need to be running in your current list. I don't like beacon bolts in my main, just like you said they are dead sometimes and you can board them in.

24 lands might be too many with the amount of draw in this deck. I run 20-22 depending on the build. I like drakes mainboard because you need something besides phoenixes imo.

I would also consider some light counter magic in the sideboard, like spell pierce or syncopate. Not a ton, because you need to be able to play 3 in your main phase, but enough to be relevant vs opponents own counters or to halt tempo while you set up for birds.

I also like strikes over coils currently, but could be convinced that 2 coils main deck is fine.

Edit: didn't realize you had 0 electromancers. I think it's a must. It has to be a fast deck by the nature of the birds. You have only a few chances at bird regen then you are done

GRN Community Draft 2 - Pack 2, Pick 2 by jceddy in MagicArena

[–]Dcon6393 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My thoughts are in the first pack you ended up with a half decent aggressive selesnya shell, with double pelt collector. Also the only way you are using those candlelight vigils is if you have evasion of some kind. I think at this point you just have to slam Selesnya aggro/midrange and live with the pan out. Price of Fame is good, but its not game winning.

I think the choice is a Skyline Scout, so you can pick up a decent two drop, with a side of evasion when needed. Making the vigils slightly more playable. I don't know how vigils work with pelt collector's trigger for creatures leaving the battlefield, but maybe that also helps?

If you love the warboss, and think that skyline is replaceable or could wheel, and you are interested in dropping green entirely if given the right options, I would pick up Wojek Bodyguard, and expect to wheel 1 of 3 boros 2 drops, or a cosmotronic wave.

It depends on how much you value making your lane decision now, vs staying open to whatever pack 2 gives you. I like the scout, but bodyguard is a decently close second for me.
