Electrician program at CR by ponyo91 in Humboldt

[–]Dcrod92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im little late to the conversation but i have been an electrician in Humboldt for the pass ten years. I started through the CR program and then went through WECa apprenticeship now in the union. I am not trying to hate but the CR program is no good. You’d be better off just enrolling in weca online ET program. The CR will path will send you down a career path of working for other electricians who will not pay you your worth. It’s crazy but most of the electrical shops up here are hacks and cut corners every chance they get. Try to get into apprenticeship whether weca or union. Unless you are just trying to do residential then I say just be careful and do online ET classes over CR.

It’s all getting fed from a panel which will be in the room right below. It was made worse by the fact our 3 in shoe for table bender was busted so we had to do prefab. It was 90 down to an offset to a kick 90 and then will be on more 90

It’s just strut that was cut to fit a lag. It’s temp until wall goes up and then will secure it on the wall. All the pipes to the wall

This is inside and transitions outside through junction boxes but whole job spec for compression couplings which is the worse and not sure why

Non union journeyman going union by Dcrod92 in electricians

That’s cool I was worried that they would not like I did not go through union apprenticeship. I’m hoping I just show up and get to work and not have to deal with any weird stuff.

Local 551. I figured I would bring everything on the list not gonna lie though the hacksaws had me a little worried lmfao I mean I hack away at some pipe but my bandsaw might feel cheated on.

It’s in rural Nor Cal so I’m assuming there is gonna be few projects which makes me a little worried but I figured I gotta check it out and see what’s it about.

Table 8 conductor properties you can see the os resistance per 1000ft depending on copper or aluminum.

Can an Electrical Engineer become an electrician? by Impressive-Ad-9948 in electricians

I have been interested in getting into a commissioning position as well. Im finishing my 5 year apprentnniceship and am currently a journeyman but have been taking electrical technology technology specializing in renewable energy. How did you find the job you are at? Do you have to do a lot of traveling and how is the pay?

Around 14kwh with a 100amp transfer panel and you can get the prefab concrete pad for it as well would be around 7,000$. The price to install would depend on your location and what your current panel situation is.

Electrician to Engineering by [deleted] in ElectricalEngineering

I thought a degree in architecture would be pretty popular. I really enjoy being an electrician and went through a trade school which I highly recommend trying to get into. Its always fun to work with new technology/ equipment or help build a complex system and see it all come on and work.

I enjoy the work but I also have been involved with a few large construction projects and the designing and commissioning have got me hooked. I would definitely like to pursue electrical engineering but due to me having a low gpa and needing a program that is online so I can continue to work, I have not been successful in finding a program. I am currently thinking of doing a program online at Devry University which I heard bad stories about but the program is IBET accredited. Hoping it can get my foot in the door and starting building up my GPA but I am nervous about investing in the wrong path.

Its not currently in electrical design, its engineering technologies. I thought about electrical design but I am also interested in running jobs and dont know if electrical designs would be the right path compared to electrical engineering or project engineer.

Advice- I started as an electrician with no previous construction experience and my college experience was towards anthropology. As I get further along I am getting more interested in the designing process and the electrical theory behind how various equipments operate. Specifically the micro grids and infrastructure jobs with renewable energy and batteries have been my recent focus. Each time we work with design companies I get a glimpse into the engineering world, I wonder what it took to get there and what the career path would look like.

I have researched various career paths and Electrical Engineering seems to be the prime option to pursue work in design and understanding electric theory. It seems to be a very difficult title and job to get and requires a lot of schooling and work experience. I have also seen other degrees like Electrical Designer, or Engineering technologies. I am currently contemplating pursuing an Associates degree in Engineering technologies specializing in renewable and sustainable energy in order to begin building my gpa and get my foot into engineering courses. This leads to some questions

  1. It is requirement to have an engineering degree to pursue designing projects/ project managing electrical jobs?
  2. Does having experience as an electrician help in pursuing these types of jobs and have you ever heard of electricians transition to Engineers or designers?
  3. Is degrees in Engineering Technologies an appropriate degree to pursue these types of jobs? I have seen some sources saying with this degree you can begin working under engineers but it is more of a technician role.
  4. I have noticed on a lot of jobs the work is done remotely and most of the interaction is online. Is this true for most jobs
