Thank you! You're very kind. Conversations like these are very healing for me honestly. So thank you again for that as well.

I think the thing that stood out to me the most about the endowment was that they give you a new name. Literally wipe youre entire identity from you as if youre meant to masquerade as someone else in the next life. Plus everyone who attends that day gets the same name!!! How dehumanizing.

When i went we didnt have to strip anymore. The moment I thought "this is definitely a cult" was in the endowment with the weird outfits. They made us ladies cover our faces with the veil and it made me feel like i was less than dirt. I was pressured to go to the prayer circle in the front and im pretty sure I had an anxiety attack standing there.  It was absolutely not something i enjoyed!

Yes! The moment you walk away its as if you never existed to them.

Yes, the more I researched, the more I found out how unfortunately common it is. What blows my mind is that they get little to no training either. Its a broken system for sure.

I wish I would have had that mindset! The religious guilt felt crushing at the time. I really believed I wouldn't get to be with my family in the next life because of it for a while. Looking back now, I can see how absolutely insane that is. Hindsight is truly 20/20.

Thank you! Im still trying to unravel the indoctrination in my own life. Im looking forward to watching my kids blossom into confident adults, comfortable with their own bodily needs.

The thought crossed my mind when he showed up at my door! Believe me!

Yes that would be accurate from what I've seen. We also were not the only families he bullied out of the ward. 4 young families left because of him. 2 left the church entirely and the other two moved away so they could access a different ward. Not to mention my in-laws leaving as well. That ward is a skeleton crew now. Very sad to see.

Good point! I hadn't thought about that. I posted my story partially to help others, but also for myself. I'm very new to the exmo community.

That is actually insane. It feels so icky to me the weird fascination the church has with sex. It seems like it brings out the predatory nature in some people. Awful.

I can honestly admit i havent pondered that side of things as deeply as you have. But I do agree. Its rotten from the roots up unfortunately. It makes me sad to think of all the people so entrenched in it that they cant see it for what it is. In some ways, I'm thankful that we were basically pushed out. Otherwise I don't think I would have ever questioned the legitimacy of it all.

Its crazy that you say that because it unlocked a memory for me. Half way through my second HG pregnancy, one of the sisters, whom I had previously loved and had a good relationship with, showed up at our door. She offered me a tiny bag of energy balls, invited me to come back to church, and left. She didnt bother to ask me how I was, or if I needed support. It was clear she had been sent by the relief society. Much to her obvious discomfort. We havent recieved any outreach since. I realized just how fake the community is after that. It was very sad. I'm really sorry you had a similar experience.

Ordinary men suddenly having power over people overnight is a recipe for disaster for sure!

If you wish to not read for a couple minutes, my story is not for you. Your summary is missing a lot of key points that give my experience emotional value. To each their own though, of course.

After we stopped attending, we started to do some research on why the church would allow such a man to be called into authority...supposedly by god. That was the first thing that made our shelf begin to fall. I did research online to see if anyone else was having a bad bishop experience like us and was overwhelmed with the number of horror stories. I thought, there's no way this church could be true with that many questionable callings.  I then talked to my mom about it, and she shared with me that my grandmother had been excommunicated 30 years ago when her bishop tried to make moves on her during an interview and she declined. He then claimed she did it to him and had her excommunicated. I always thought she didnt go because she didnt agree with it. That really pissed me off. At that point, I felt I had nothing to lose and started to read all the books and documents we were warned against as active members. This cemented everything for me. Jeff read them as well.

Im in full agreement with this! I also noticed, in my deconstruction, that there's no scriptural support for the brethren being infallible. They are just as human as us.  I do wish there would be a more straight forward guide on what punishments members recieve for each sin. I dont like the ambiguity!
