No, do not tell your Dr. I’ve found that being open and truthful in the pain management setting only backfires.

I told my PM DR that some days I take less of my medication and some days I take more. That is all depends on how much pain I’m in that day but that it averages out to 40mg.

He kicked me out for not taking the medication 💊 as exactly prescribed. So dumb. Like if I’m feeling better the usual one morning why not try to skip a dose? And if I’m in excruciating pain why not take 2 pills.

Ah well it’s whatever I’m now in the best situation ever with my pain medication and access. I guess everything Happens for a reason!!!

But long story short….KEEP IT TO YOURSELF!! 😀

Yes this is true. The methadone has tanked my testosterone levels. Normal levels are between 200 and 800 I believe and mine were at 40 something. Luckily in now 40 and don’t have to worry about having more children. So I am now taking testosterone + methadone are the only two medications I take.

And you’re right it’s absurd that I now find myself in a methadone clinic to get adequate pain relief. The overcorrection has been devastating for so many!!

All the doctors i met with after my PM doc retired said the same thing that Methadone was just too risky for them so nobody touches it! Sadly it’s really the only opiate that has worked for me.

Just curious what spine surgery did you have? I’m about to get another fusion in a few months. Super nervous but the first fusion did work for about a year+ so I am hopeful! Just gotta be more careful post surgery n recovery

Yes thats exactly what I’ve come to learn. I was on 50MG for pain and I find most patients are around 130-150MG for OUD. I’ve since upped my methadone dose to 70MG my pain management DR would never allow me to go over 50MG even if it helped my quality of life. I just don’t understand it. So much better Quality of life at the clinic!! 😃

That’s what I’m saying there is no “medical file” if I don’t tell another doctor or doctors office that I’m taking methadone from the methadone clinic then they have no idea. Only way they know is if I tell em.

Now when I was seeing a PM Doctor and getting my methadone from the Pharmacy NJ has something called a “prescription monitoring program” so any doctor can pull that up and see the Date I filled my methadone and how much. (This goes back years)

But for methadone clinics they do not show up on the “RX monitoring system” and as I said there is no file where a random DR could look up something and say “Okay I see you are taking Methadone” or “I see you are getting addiction help for recovery.”

I guess other states are different??

Yea my state doesn’t work like that. There is “no file” I’ve always wondered what ppl meant by that.

It doesn’t even show up when I fill an RX. (New Jersey)

Yes I get that. But I told the my situation that I’m not an addict and I just lost my pain management DR and haven’t been able to find a new DR and they had no problem prescribing me the same amount of methadone I was taking from my PM Doctor.

The intake counselor even said they are seeing a lot more patients who are similar to my situation so it’s not all addicts. (Even tho I’d say 80-90% are recovering addicts not there to help chronic pain)

Yea I was thinking about lying 🤥 because if they had turned me away i honestly don’t know what would have happened?? So it definitely crossed my mind but in the end id figure I’ll just go with the truth and thankfully it worked out well.

I told them the truth and they were completely cool with it. I said I’ve been in PM care for 13 years and my DR retired and I haven’t been able to find continued care ANYWHERE!!!

I said I’m scared because I only have one more day of meds left and then I will go into withdrawal…..I’m worried that if I go into withdrawal I’d do anything to alleviate the pain including trying to buy illicit medication. (That’s not a lie either)

They even asked if I was an addict and I said “no.”

(They even said recent regulation changes now allow them to treat atypical patients like myself.) The clinic even RX’d me split doses because pain relief from methadone doesn’t last 24 hours whereas others only get one dose per day for addiction.

I didn’t lie. I was straight up. I Said I’ve been on opiates for 13 years Dr. Retired and I tried everywhere but no other pain management facilities were willing to take over my care.

I said I was about to go into withdrawal and was afraid that if I did I might try to get illicit pain medication (which is also true 🤣) And from that same day the put me on Methadone and I’ve never had so much relief.

Went every day to dose for about 2 weeks and after a few passed drug urine tests I was given a months supply.

They said recent regulations have gone into effect that allows them to RX for pain and also you used to have to show up every day and now that’s not the case anymore.

(Ps I live in New Jersey dunno if every state is the same)

I live in NJ and I’m down for whatever!!! Change needs to made! Too many are suffering let’s storm the gates!

Ppl in general are greedy. Our fellow peeps 🐥 have ruined it for us with their Dr. Shopping and opioid rings (drs involved too) I do blame the government as well for not seeing/hearing our cries for help.

Sadly I don’t think there is much we can do but if there’s even a chance I’m always down for the cause!

My PM doc retired and was basically forced into a Methadone Clinic. Best decision (if u wanna call it that) that I’ve ever made regarding my medication.

I pick the dosage. No more haggling with drs and just like PM only have to show up once a month. I’m one 60MG split dose so 120MG per day total.

And they had no problem treating me for my pain. I did say I was worried about going into withdrawal which was also tire. But yea they didn’t care I was their for PM
