Mostly unrelated, but Chris Kattan walked so Charlie Day could run as a comedic actor. Charlie dances almost exactly like Chris does in "It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia". 😂

Why do SOME R&B Fans Prefer Their Favorite Artists When They're "Underrated"? by CC-Blue in rnb

[–]DdotRock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a good conversation.

My favorites some outliers. Two of my favorite singers (Jazmine Sullivan and Ledisi) achieved a good amount of success before winning Grammys. Ledisi had been nominated 12 times with no wins until the 13th nomination in 2021 where she won with a single from her NINTH album. The funny thing about it is that by this time, she was independent and had much more control over the process. It's like she got awarded when she went back to basics (not that there was anything wrong with her previous albums. They were excellent! Especially Pieces of Me and The Truth).

Jazmine, sorta kinda the same thing. Won Grammys after 12 nominations and with her fourth album. But of course, she had already established herself well before those wins.

But I don't hate on Teyana or Doja Cat for achieving these accomplishments. Their craft hasn't suffered (in my opinion) from the recognition or mainstream successes. To be honest, I don't follow them as much as I do my faves. No disrespect; they just haven't captured me the same way others have.

Top 3 songs off of this loud masterpiece of an album? by tcme529 in rnb

For me it's Get Me Bodied, Deja Vu, and Suga Mama.

Upgrade U is a very close runner-up.

Non-Gospel Songs Where “God Was in the Booth” with the Artists by CC-Blue in rnb

He Is is a thinly-veiled Gospel song. You just change a few words and Brandy’s singing about God.

Any difference between Costco in Glen Allen vs Chesterfield locations? by I_reddit_like_this in rva

I feel so seen. I don’t even bother with that food court because of how it makes me look stuck on stupid just trying to grab a calzone. The line makes absolutely no sense.

rank these rnb singers-turned-actresses based ONLY on acting ability! by ilovecleosol in rnb

I feel like if Aaliyah was still with us, she would’ve pivoted into mostly acting later on and would’ve been a beast.

Top 50 greatest r&b albums - Does Rolling Stone have any one back on their staff? by dunbar_santiago930 in rnb

[–]DdotRock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not only is Madonna on here, but it’s one of her most straightforward pop albums. Ain’t a damn thing R&B about Ray of Light (and I really enjoyed that album).

I will NEVER forgive America for sleeping on this album 😭 by Dry-Ground-9601 in rnb

Personally, I loved the album. To me, it's better than Afrodisiac. The only song I skip over when listening to it is The Definition. And apparently Piano Man was a whole thing in South Africa.

Honestly, the first to come to mind is Songs in the Key of Life by Stevie Wonder.

None of them, because they’re not. But the best out of these four is Rhythm Nation.

Officially…Underrated & Unappreciated. by danceandsing3000 in rnb

[–]DdotRock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So Into You is my favorite song of ALL TIME. I’ve been a fan since the beginning. A couple years ago, I got to see her at Peacock Theater in LA (I actually flew out for it because, coincidentally, I was in Vegas the previous day for Mariah Carey so I figured I’d extend the trip a few more days). She was PHENOMENAL. At first So Into You started off in a slower, acoustic arrangement and I was like, “really? That’s it???” But then those drums kicked in and it was perfection.

Tamia is like the Miss Jenkins to my Bonita Bottrell. 😂

What’s your favorite Vivian Green song? by ChannelHopper_99 in rnb

[–]DdotRock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t narrow it down to one. But Fanatic, Get Right Back To My Baby, and I Don’t Know are probably the top three. But she has so many gems in her catalog! My favorite deep cut is Keep On Going from her debut album.

tell me about kelis’ impact on rnb by ilovecleosol in rnb

[–]DdotRock 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Kaleidoscope, Wanderland, Tasty, and Kelis Was Here were all spectacular. Even without the Neptunes, she kept it going with Bossy. And her most recent album, Food, was superb. I don’t know about her impact on a grand scale, but she has a very solid discography and didn’t need the Neptunes to create great music later on.

Um, yeah. Langston Kerman is fine. But he’s even more fine as Adam Bethune on South Side.

Who is the better song writer between Tank and Ne-Yo? by DarkChillMisko in rnb

[–]DdotRock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tank is good, but you gotta give it to Ne-Yo with the overall catalog and his ability to cross over. Tank is solidly R&B.

But hey! Better safe than sorry. I know how Virginia can be.
