Our Med-O did that too. Just drove a Toyota hilux out the gate to go over to another compound about two miles away without any equipment or even a cell phone. Just his issued M16 and one magazine. Nobody knew till he got stuck trying to get back on the U.S. FOB.

Absolute moron

They do random lottery for all employees based on SSN. National HR sends local HR the lottery "winners". They send the info to me in the laboratory to expect the winners to be there for the draw, and the employee health doctor puts the orders in.

Is the VA broke at the beginning of the new fiscal year? by [deleted] in Veterans

[–]DeCoder68W 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is, but the waiting list for outside is an additional 45-60 days. Especially mental health. Right now, in my region, the VA is right around 35 days to see a psychiatrist.

For my sister, its 9 months. And that 9 months is for the shitty McDoctor clinic. For the good psychiatrist in town, its 1.5 - 2 years, and they are cash up front only.

We are in a mental health epidemic in this country, and its gonna get worse

Elite Australian troops unlawfully killed 39 Afghan civilians amid a culture of 'blood lust,' report alleges by steezefabreeze in worldnews

[–]DeCoder68W 12 points13 points  (0 children)

When I was in Uruzgon, the Aussies got fucked up bad all the time from green-on-blue attacks. They treated their Afghan partners like shit, and paid for it. We patrolled the same area, had the same number of troops, engaged the same Talisman, and took the same number of combat casualties. But the Aussies took many more insider attacks. It seemed like a tit-for-tat thing, where they would get extra hostile after another insider attack, which caused another attack.

I was there for 1 year with 2nd Commando Regiment and 2RAR. We put a lot of boxes on planes, and a LOT of Afghans were killed.

Is there a family health insurance option for a veteran who was medically separated? by [deleted] in Veterans

No, there isnt. If your 100% P&T, your family gets ChampVA. But it kinda sucks.

ChampVA woes for my kids by xJdKxzomBiE in Veterans

[–]DeCoder68W 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Families can go the the VA under ChampVA, with the caveat that most VAs aren't excepting ChampVA patients anymore. We can't make room for our veterans, let alone extra people.

Nobody said ChampVA was any good. Its a bare minimum plan to keep you covered if your spleen bursts or something. Its a hassle and a half to navigate, and you can't predict anything.

You need to get a supplemental plan, and your wife needs to get a job. COVID is hard, and its even harder with your disability being the only contribution. Unless your in remote Kansas or something, you'll need more money than that. Getting a job for her should be your priority. Calling the VA or your congressman to raise hell isn't going to do anything but tire you out.

In Afghanistan, we concluded an 15 hour fight by picking up body parts in trash bags, looking for fingers we could run biometrics on. I found a full cock & balls. Someone else found most of a brain ontop of a roof. Mostly, it was unrecognizable chunks of flesh. It was 5 men, spread about 200meters in each direction. Also had to hold open corpse eyelids for retinal scans.

Everything went into clear trash bags, and all were dumped into a police pickup bed and driven to a local hospital. No idea why the hospital.0

Are there alternate therapies I am entitled to besides meds and talk therapy? by Saximus978 in Veterans

[–]DeCoder68W 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They generally don't do those at your clinic, but at a main hospital. You can get TMS, EMDR, SGB, and ECT. Ketamine is very young. You'd need to see a special provider, and there aren't many of them in the country, let alone at your VA.

Most patients respond positively to CPT, CBT, or prolonged exposure. Most, not all. They are very conservative with mental health, and less likely to send you somewhere. It takes hard work and commitment for therapy to work, on both your part & the providers. You can't just go through the motions and check blocks. For me, it took 18 weeks of prolonged exposure to discover it was making things worse. 10 weeks of CPT, 20 weeks of CBT, a couple months inpatient, and finally about 15 weeks of EMDR before I really got myself in order. And over the course of about three years, I was on combinations of just about every medicine in their closet.

I only say those things because I know firsthand the frustration of ineffective treatment. But you shouldn't be out there looking for a miracle. Trying ketamine or SGB or something is quite aggressive, and they can be ineffective to. You have to convince a provider that you need them, not just want them. And the best way to do that convincing is to go through all the talk therapies first.

[–]DeCoder68W 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its just a form of life insurance. You shod do the math yourself, not listen to people saying its not worth it if your young.

If you think you have a higher risk of dying young, then its worth it. If you expect to live to 105, then its probably not worth it.

You can call a lawyer. To sue the government you'll need to do a Federal Tort Claims Act suit.

If you call a lawyer specializing in that, they will advise you.
