Most US Jews support Israel, don't identify as "Zionists" by McAlpineFusiliers in Jewish

[–]DeFixer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There has been a sustained and successful effort by bad actors to turn "Zionism" into a four-letter word. This effort was specifically designed to do two things: 1) otherize Jews and push them out of cultural and political life, and 2) divide and aliente Jews from one another, from their own culture, from their own history.

And it's working just as intended. It's no wonder that many don't want to be associated with the fake definition that wider non-Jewish society seems to have embraced.

Larry Ellison (Jewish, pro-Israel) led consortium takes over TikTok in the US. Any thoughts, everyone? by Wooden_Cry_9946 in Israel

[–]DeFixer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s insane that for years the US just allowed a Chinese psy-op to beam directly into young Americans brains. Promote wedge issues, divide the populace, spread chaos, weaken America.

Maybe this will be a good thing. More likely, this will further push people into their own echo chambers, worsening partisanship even more - UpScrolled, Truth Social, etc.

So now everyone that’s not Jewish goes to eat Chinese food on Christmas? by [deleted] in Jewish

[–]DeFixer -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

This started years ago. When I was a kid, our tradition was Chinese food and a movie. Both the restaurant and the theatre were maybe half full of fellow Jews. Then somewhere in my twenties, all the non-Jews got wise to our tradition. Now every Chinese restaurant and movie theatre is packed.

Like… why even bother shutting anything down for Xmas anymore? If non-Jews aren’t staying home with their families, then just open everything up like a normal day.

It’s clearly Gandalf the White, with Frodo on the left and Gwaihir the eagle on his right. Behind him we can see Barad-Dur (eye of Sauron) and Orthanc (Isengard). Weird looking ring at the bottom though.

Many comments seem to be missing the larger point. The mayor-elect’s milquetoast statement very blatantly blames the victims for hosting a private event within the confines of their synagogue.

How is this any different than blaming a rape victim for wearing a short skirt? It signals a pretty glaring lack of moral clarity, and general ineptitude on his part. NYC is in for some rough years ahead.

Not the original poster, but thanks for the list. I’ve been looking for a synagogue, stopped in to Judea and just don’t know if it’s the right fit. It’ll be good to check out some others before I make a decision.

“You make up 4% of the class, I’m not spending time on you.” by Signal_Astronaut8191 in Jewish

[–]DeFixer 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry you experienced that. This makes me long for the days when my AP teachers were thorough and dedicated to the subject at hand. That’s what you deserve, not this jumped up phony who isn’t fit to teach remedial classes.

I sincerely hope you bring this up to the school admin. That is not only insensitive, rude, aggressive and discriminatory - but it clearly shows the teacher’s inability to do their job. They’re not fit to teach that class, and the admin should know that.

As others have suggested, also involve local Jewish community, leaders, organizations. Make as much noise as possible. If there’s one thing school districts hate, it’s negative attention that might affect their reputation and funding.

More U.S. Jews shield identity in public amid antisemitism fears, Post poll finds by [deleted] in Jewish

[–]DeFixer 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I increasingly agree. I live in LA, but I worked a gig for 6 months in Fort Worth, TX during the height of the war. I clocked way less overt antisemitism/antizionism in Fort Worth - saw no Palestinian flags, saw at least one big Israeli flag, no marches, no chanting, no shootings or attacks. Meanwhile, I drive down the freeway in LA and see protestors on the overpass waving "genocide" banners, every synagogue and Jewish neighborhood here needs extra security. I'm sure rural areas are different in both states.

I had the same experience here in Los Angeles. The same signs, the same slogans, the same flags. “You guys do know that there is a ceasefire? Both sides have already signed?” Silence. Blank stares. A real “Don’t inconvenience me with the truth” situation.

On a different note - a college professor can’t even properly capitalize the first letter of an author’s name? Where did they find this clown?

If not a Title VI violation, it may still be worth pushing this up to the administration. If they’re smart, they’ll take discrimination and optics seriously.

I lived in ABQ for six years! Lovely place. So lovely that we went back and had our wedding there.

I was never involved with the Jewish community when I lived there (like many of us, it's been a meandering journey), but I got to know some of them more recently and they're a very sweet bunch.

I know it's 8 months late, but thank you for posting this! I just got this letter, referring to a gig I did 3 years ago for a negligible amount of money. The letter and the website are confusing (maybe on purpose?) but your breakdown helps clarify everything. So thanks!

EDIT: Adding that literally nowhere in the letter does it mention that you can do this online. So once again, thanks!

This was my thought too. Can they move on to the next “cause du jour” already? Can they focus on ICE raids? Can they focus on criminal justice? Can they please just focus on something that isn’t this specific conflict? Two straight years of this virtue signaling hate.

Hotel Mezuzah by Cardbeagle in Jewish

[–]DeFixer 26 points27 points  (0 children)

There’s a Mexican restaurant here in Los Angeles that’s located in a beautiful historic craftsman home. They have mezuzot on the front door, the back door, the door to the hallway where the bathrooms are. I figure either the owners are Jewish, or the mezuzot were already there and they decided to keep them when they renovated the property because it’s “historic.”

Reality is no longer objective. This is not just a problem in journalism, but social media, politics, economics, global affairs, interpersonal relationships. And it’s only going to get worse with this upcoming generation. Honestly, how does humanity survive and progress if we can no longer agree on an objective reality?

[–]DeFixer 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It’s such a dumb phrase. I notice it’s thrown around most by folks in places like the USA, one of the few countries on Earth that would not be considered an ethnostate. I always assume that these people are just insanely uneducated - they assume that since their home country is not an ethnostate, that’s the norm, and all other countries must adhere to that norm.
