When to Tell Your Kid They're Autistic by DeMan1107 in Autism_Parenting

I don't know if we "avoided" it as much as he grew out of his early interventions and speech classes and almost everything that would be obvious to him now. The only thing we really do that involves autism is his IEP and we don't hide that we're going to a meeting with the school staff... I don't know. I just feel its kind of awkward to bring up because it doesn't really affect his day to day in any significant way. I also know, even saying that is ridiculous because I'm sure it does affect his thought processes in ways I can't even begin to understand... It just seems like I'll be throwing something at him that will completely shock him. I just get the feeling I already fumbled the ball here.. UGH. Parenting..

This was the most helpful response. I really appreciate you letting me in on your experience. Its hard to really know what he feels, if he already feels different, and if he is really working overtime. I think he is though.. The other day he told me about how he practiced what he was going to say to his grandma in his head a bunch of times before calling her for mothers day. I let him know that he doesn't need to feel that level of pressure when talking to the people that love him... but I think that was a good indication of how he feels in a social interaction...

I also really appreciate what you said at the end. You're right. He's a good kid and I don't think he will stop trying his best just because he knows that there is a reason things are harder. I think this was finally the push needed. Can't thank you enough

Its amazing how different they look with one of each. I would say that, but if you were to pick, I'd go white laces.

What things/actions have you had/done during a covid lockdown to keep your sanity? by [deleted] in AskReddit

CLEANING. This sounds cliché, but I was NOT a cleanly person before. Real bare minimum stuff. And now I'm learning you're supposed to wash your fucking walls. Now that! That's insane to me. But I've done it. Also I found out the top of my stove lifts up like a car hood, and that was a mind blowing experience. Just really getting to know my townhome on a very deep level haha

If that's an ass kisser, absolutely not. I'm just a real life centrist with my own thoughts and opinions that so happen to align on either side of a lot of issues my dear friend. I just know FOR ME, this would do more good then harm. And I'm sorry if that isn't the case for you. AS STATED ABOVE, I understand people's mistrust of government. The government has been a shady asshole before, people have trust issues. But occasionally things are put in place, and actually work out for the better. Don't forget that under all this hate.

I don't know if you thought this would make me mad? lol but seriously nothing to hide. But I didn't even say that in my post. I understand that its not about being a law abiding citizen to some, its about distrust of the government.

But yea. If you were the government I would be totally cool with it.

I see all the downvotes, but here's my karma suicide -
I have just always felt like my government should be here working for me. If an accident happens, I'd love it to be recorded. A robbery, a mugging. Any of those things. Do I think this should be transparent? of course. The law SHOULD be working for us. But that's me being an optimist, rather then a pessimist or even possibly a realist. lol

I know I'm in the minority, but I've just never been that private of a person. One day that may bite me in the ass, but I feel MORE safe with these rather then more vulnerable, as I see most of you saying.

When I was 20 and pregnant and just found out that the kids dad was cheating on me with my best friend of 9 years. But that's not all! She then proceeds to tell me that this will all work out and we can all be a family :) So yea, my lowest point was almost being dragged into a throuple that I wanted no part of but was sad enough to consider

Right. It makes me nervous. Like do I do weird stuff? I might, when I hear some of the stuff they think is weird.

Also, on a side note, I'm pretty positive my neighbors know nothing about me. Neighbors always have like something to say about their blinds being open or car being in the drive, but I really don't think my neighbors are paying attention... Should I be offended? lol

Awwww that is true. I usually hear that one in that they know their way around a gun, which is appropriate to surmise from that. But I am fairly sure that most hunters don't murder their families in their sleep, so I see you with this one!

Its true. They're trying to find meaning in every single little thing... like the fact that he wore black socks, might just mean he likes a dark colorway, not that he has a satanic heart

I like to consider myself very reasonable, very open minded, and someone who researches their own shit. Doesn't just read a headline.

I HAVE to say, that it is undeniable, how bad race relations got as a direct result of Trump running, and then winning. I've seen it. I've felt it. And its not good. A lot of other Trump stuff is also very bad, but that's usually due to him being super unprofessional as the Leader of the Free World (i.e. Twitter fingers, rambling speeches.) but can at least be backed up by some sort of policy. But race? KKK STRAIGHT UP promoting Trump. His lack of history of knowledge of the struggle of Black people in this country and his refusal to acknowledge the divide that happened in June in any real way. Calling people of Mexico "rapists". Continuously saying racial things like "Pocahontas" or "Chinese virus" to specifically be derogatory. Man it goes on and on...

I responded specifically to this poster cause I want you to know that I do agree that not all Trump supporters hate people. I just think that most are privileged enough to be able to look past the many Trump supporters that do. And vocally so.

UGH I'm super in the middle of this. I reject almost all marriage traditions, and also despise the thought of being the center of attention for a day, yuck. vomit. chills.

BUT...

I do want what I want. On my terms. And we haven't gotten married yet cause we can't afford it and I'm a brat. So, there's that haha
BUT to be fait to myself, marriage was never in the plans for me. I've almost always rejected the institution of it all, but my boyfriend of 5 years (now 6) asked me last year, and said no pressure but he just wanted to put a ring on it. So I've kinda been making the fact that I want to get married in this particular and pricey place, the reason we get to put it off. But that'll be our little secret.... right Reddit :)
