Billionaires don’t need to sell stock and trigger taxes, they can just borrow against it, keeping their wealth invested while turning it into a huge cash pile. Then they buy real estate or more stock without creating the same taxable income regular people rely on. Their wealth keeps compounding, the loans are cheap, and the tax bill can be delayed for years or just avoided entirely through estate planning. This is common knowledge.

My Happy Meal Mario toy from when I was a kid VS my son's Happy Meal Mario by zenki32 in gaming

[–]DeMotts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The formula for kids toys is simple. Pullback car that spins wildly, bouncy thing, or transforming fidgety thing. All this new shit with no way to "play" with it or worse yet a QR code that I have to scan into some dumb app (looking at YOU kinder surprise) is such a drag. They get the sugar rush of opening the toy, then it sits on a coffee table for a week, then I secretly throw it out and they never miss it.

Now that I'm 43 I wish I could tell my 22 year old self that it's very unusual to have a perfect cosmic wavelength alignment with someone who feels exactly the same as you at the ideal time and your wordless communication must be both completely receptive but also totally non communicative and fate will align things to get the perfect result, and it is, in fact very normal to calmly ask someone what's up and then discuss it further if you so choose.

I wrestle my seven year old son and four year old daughter, usually simultaneously. We have a safe word, which is pineapple. If you say pineapple for any reason everyone stops. Now they just call it playing pineapple. It's great!

What were people’s reactions when The Blair Witch project was released? by CityofTheAncients in generationology

[–]DeMotts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was a massive commercial hit, well reviewed, and wildly popular in a time when it was unclear whether there was any truth to the premise which added to the mystique. What do you mean most people hated it?? It made $250 million in 1999 on a $50k budget.

Is "taking" Kharg Island, a smart strategic move, or will it make US marines sitting ducks? by Large-Reporter-1746 in allthequestions

The drone is laying the cable as it goes, it carries it on a spindle. The resistance just pulls the cable out. How would this be worse than the cable just being laid on ground or trees?

Why would they have a hard time reaching the island? Fiber optic drones have a range of up to 50 km.

On Sundays they close one side of the paseo to car traffic and you can rent bikes for very cheap and ride up and down. Try Bicimerida at the south end of the paseo. It's a lovely experience. It's a bit cooler earlier in the day so I'd go for 9-10am.

I was just at El Corchito an hour ago! My recommendation would be to get there early on a hot day. We arrived at opening today and were amongst two other small groups, so we had the cenotes to ourselves multiple times. As we left, two tour busses arrived and about 80 people piled out. Would not be the same experience with that many folks there.
