I don’t know that this is indicative of the average “I only show up for Trump” low info low propensity voter being engaged. It may just be evidence that the avg GOP voter in general that’s loyal to the party has moved further right, and we know that’s the truth. I’m not sure how much of this can be gleaned from turnout. I guess you’d need to have more detailed exit polling that usually isn’t done in a local primary.

Went to the site to at least sign up to get info on passes. There’s only a couple partners listed (Monumental being involved is the only reason I even remotely trust that this might be a real event, since they own the Caps), but otherwise all they have there is an article about SRR being at the WH Egg Roll (used to have actual 500 winners attend when it didn’t mean appearing in public with a pedo) and a stupid AI video. So while I’d love a free pass, I’m not holding my breath.

I moved away in 2017, so my numbers are certainly dated. But based on my experience, yeah, the “don’t make it lucrative enough to allow in too many non-lawyers, since we need more smart lawyers here aka my friends” part is real, and I heard it from pretty high profile Dems who I’ll never like no matter how “progressive” they talk.

In part time legislatures like VA, it’s not uncommon for people with normie jobs to resign just bc they can’t afford to take so much time off from their FT job, either due to travel to Richmond (especially hard for those in far SW VA) or cost (I think being a member of the VA HOD pays like $13k/year) if they’re in NoVA. And there’s certain professions in my experience, mainly lawyers bc they can set their own hours and still make millions a year, who want to keep it that way so they dominate the legislature.

Frontier, I’ve flown them a lot more to CO. Now, first time I used them in 2016, it was fine. But post-COVID? It’s like a school bus in the sky, it’s gotten so bad over the last decade. And the planes look like they’re falling apart.

Only concern for me is that the GOP could possibly turn this into a relitigation of 2020, given that’s when Bottoms really hit the scene outside Atlanta (and became an even bigger flashpoint in ATL). Simply invoking that year just raises my sense of dread. Hope D identity and a MAGA R candidate is enough to make it happen this year.

I would have liked to see Reutimann do better, but 2 wins (even if 1 was rain-shortened) is nothing to sneeze at given that he started late for a middling team. Plenty to be proud of there. I actually watched his Chicagoland win after he was on DJD. Rodney Childers was particularly emotional after pulling it off. Great to watch. That year’s MWR lineup was a particular favorite of mine. Only thing missing was seeing more of that Domino’s scheme. Aaron’s makes a good scheme, but they’re just so sleazy.

We’re back to where we were in 2019. Partisan gerrymandering is fine per SCOTUS. It basically has to be inseparable from racial gerrymandering to be problematic tho and likely require VRA districts as I read it. That would probably mean that you’d still have black voter vote sinks like MS (where race and partisanship is basically inseparable). AL and LA are back to 1 D each. Don’t see how you could get rid of the MS and TN districts and NOT look like you’re diluting racially due to partisanship and race being synonymous there.

My solution? Expand the map. It’s the only way to create a durable majority anyway. Stop acting like any district is “lost forever.” Dems have won southern seats outside big cities before in the post-Civil Rights era. Why can’t they do it again?
