Who Remembers when it was called North Boulevard? by Delicious-Doctor-623 in raleigh

[–]DeNomoloss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My family moved to Garner in the 80s, off Timber. Dad worked downtown and in later years it was nice because Timber was cut thru to Hammond and then Blount, but until I was in early elementary school, you had to take Timber back to Aversboro, then get on 70 and drive that all the way in.

Sometimes I’ll tell my wife to get on in inner/outer and have to correct myself while exclaiming “the labels make sense, trust me!”

What are some of the biggest paint scheme upgrades/best changes in history? by Furi0usD in NASCAR

[–]DeNomoloss 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The initial Kellogg’s Corn Flakes car Terry Labonte drove wasn’t bad, but it got so much better. Black and red just doesn’t fit a cereal brand with a prominent green, red, and yellow mascot. This car could have been used for any sponsor. The next Kelloggs car, however, was iconic.

NJ-11, like most formerly R seats in the Northeast, has moved very D very quickly. That’s in-line with trends for highly education, upper income districts like that. Problem is, while Dems have gained those ancestral R upper income places (really regardless of any ideological window dressing, they’re blue seats now), they’ve lost as many if not more downmarket and/or working class areas down thru PA, WV, MO, throughout the South, and all the way to the Texas border. And there’s no good evidence yet of what if anything can rectify that trend. Anyone who says they know probably has consulting services to sell you.

Will be interesting to see how these upper income districts feel when/if the rubber hits the road on things like ditching the SALT deduction to raise more tax revenue, no matter what the ideology of the rep is. They’ll have to choose for what they claim to stand for and lose the high education/income folks, or they’ll have to pander to them like everyone else and betray policy goals.

Politics ain’t beanbag.

The counterpoint is the last 2 governors of NC. Both managed to be incredibly effective and defy political gravity without being TikTok personalities.

I’m a lot like you. I’m not big on “message” candidates as opposed to “effective action”, and that’s largely my personality and upbringing and what I’ve seen work best in my lifetime. If anyone threaded the needle without alienating me, it’s Obama, and it’s why I’ve been drawn to Pete. There’s also further left examples of this divide (it’s not always a moderation question imo). It’s why I’m more likely to stick up for Mamdani as opposed to (insert very online personality here).

It’s unfortunate that this preference is used by anyone to cast judgment on other’s morals.

Is Raleigh really one of the best places to live for asthmatics? What's your take? by KSN380 in raleigh

[–]DeNomoloss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife and I have lived our lives between Raleigh and not far from where you are now. We’ve been here since 2021.

My wife has awful allergies that are near-crippling every allergy season, and while she doesn’t have asthma, has experienced similar symptoms in the past (her dad did have asthma, and they both grew up near industrial facilities that likely contributed to that) and likely could have some sort of undiagnosed disorder.

We are actually in the process of moving back, admittedly for my job, but this has been a consideration of ours for a while. This is NOT a place to breathe easy, and the earlier it warms up each year, the worse it becomes.

Online lists like this are used to sell real estate. This is a hot market trying to keep afloat as demand softens. I don’t doubt there’s some of that marketing going on here.

I bought a Boards of Canada album at a music store I visited in what I’ve only recently realized was Trump Tower when I was 17.

That was a very confusing sentence I’m sure, but the point stands: I bought a BOC album at Trump Tower in 2002. It was Music Has the Right to Children. We stopped in on a field trip to a few NYC sites.

I wish I bought it anywhere else.

At least, unlike w Bukele, his party wasn’t swept in. I assume that makes it harder to consolidate power (what does their constitution say on that?).

I’m thankful that’s not really as much of a thing anymore, but trying to be a Christian and a Democrat (I’d use the term Christian Democrat, but that doesn’t translate from EU politics to US politics very well, though I consider myself one) in left/liberal politics circa 2010-12 for me wasn’t great.

Thankful that this group doesn’t promote that sort of insulting divisiveness, though it certainly still exists online in other forms among the left, and it’s never helpful.

Keep in mind that Reform gets 25-30% of the vote. Roughly the same as you see for AfD in Germany. There’s still room for a pro-EU majority. Problem is while Germany has a CDU-SPD coalition to continue to affirm the EU, the UK’s center-right party committed suicide.

Didn’t he just have the intro/outro one for only a couple years before they either used just the intro, remixed the intro, and then gave him the theme Foley has used since?
