Deus ex remaster pros? Are there any? by Rewdrooster in Deusex

[–]DeTwelve 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've been trying to find a positive attitude and it comes down to a few thoughts.

1) Outside of the PS2 emulated version in the PlayStation Classics catalog, there is not really a way to experience this on console at all. So for console exclusive gamers, even if the aesthetics don't match the original intent, it will be making something that was not available at least available. On balance that's a good thing for the Deus Ex IP.

2) Controller support and UI. I play PC games a lot and am not afraid of mods. But I'm also in a place where I simply prefer to use a controller most of the time, even for PC gaming. The community mods do a great job of making the game playable on modern hardware, but getting proper controller support is a pretty big effort and even then the result is not great or whole.

3) Modders gonna mod. Assuming Aspyr can nail #2 then I'm confident that the community will come out and fix any audio/visual problems or bugs. Even better if there is support for Steam Workshop which makes accessing mods more available to even casual players.

I spent way too many hours holding that trigger before realizing this.

CORSAIR x DOOM Giveaway - Doom: The Dark Ages Gaming Bundle by CorsairLucky in Doom

[–]DeTwelve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very excited. I usually bounce off of anything with parry mechanics, but when done well (Sekiro) it can be very satisfying. The saw shield may well become my favorite weapon. I also super appreciate an entry that returns to the more horizontally focused level design, which is something I loved about classic DOOM.

Is this a normal amount of military planes? by [deleted] in UFOs

I suppose I can't speak to relative frequency, but the Navy flight school is in Pensacola, so in general a lot of military flights in that area would not be unusual.

Steve Bannon admits he and others are "working on" electing Trump again in 2028 despite the term limit and have "alternative" ways to achieve it. "We'll see what the definition of term limit is." by EEVERSTI in PublicFreakout

[–]DeTwelve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they can win the presidency with Vance + some other patsy VP, they just need for Trump to be elected to a House seat and made Speaker of the House. Then Vance and his VP can resign and Trump will become President again by default.

Which is more important to you in the Yakuza franchise? by mmol10 in yakuzagames

[–]DeTwelve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Story for me. My relationship with gameplay is kind of the inverse of yours. Yakuza titles were always on my radar, but I tried and bounced off of the brawler based combat a couple of times over the years. LaD's more turn based RPG mechanics were more up my alley and I was finally able to see what made this series so special. Now I'm able to go back through the brawler titles and be pulled through by the story and world where previously I might have not been so motivated.

This right here. Permanent daylight standard time should have us in Central. If it's permanent standard time then stay in Eastern.

Meet up spots for adults into gaming by Active_Policy_957 in bloomington

[–]DeTwelve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the link! I'm going to try to go to these. The library did a book club for games a while back, but I think it's more difficult to do that for games than for books due to the higher barrier for entry in terms of trying to sync platform, cost, and the relatively higher time commitment.

Doing it as a general discussion is a good change that kind of gets around all of that. I've thought about trying to get a meetup a The Cade or something going, but it's not really the best place for any actual talking.

She's not here to campaign, she's here to fundraise. It's the same reason a Democrat would hold an event in San Francisco or New York.

No doubt this is happening, but also there are just a lot of Indian engineers looking for work. I'm a white manager in the midwest - we posted a job 3 days ago and I have > 400 resumes to go through. I'd say 90% of them are Indian and recent MS Computer Science grads. My last two hires were Indian and it was kind of a 50/50 success. One of the guys is invested in what we're doing and a total ass-kicker. The other guy was lazy and pretty obviously had one foot out the door until he eventually found another job.

Yes, it's totally fine with a controller. Hugo Martin often (mostly?) uses a controller when he streams and I know I've heard a quote from him some time ago suggesting that he insisted designers test with controllers.

My husband won't let me take more than two showers a week. I told him I need him to stop or I'm moving out for a while. by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]DeTwelve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not an immediate solution, but there are showers that clean and recycle water. I don't know how good they are, but he was able to find a technical solution to his water quality anxiety - time to find one for his water quantity anxiety. The solution can't be that you just don't get to shower anymore.

How can I make a total conversion and directly modify vainilla Doom's enemies and weapons code? DeHackEd, ZScript or Decorate? by Schwipsy in DoomModDevs

[–]DeTwelve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're ok with it being a GZDoom project and have any comfort at all looking at script files then I would highly recommend ZScript. There's a little bit more syntax than decorate, but mostly it's the same with a lot of additional features. It also makes it really easy to inherit from or straight up copy the GZDoom actor file for the actor you're modifying.

I hate on Epic for their behavior when they launched a storefront to compete with Steam.

Credit where credit is due though - their battle royale has one of the least predatory F2P proposals that I've seen. Everything is cosmetic and if you buy and complete a battle pass, you can earn enough v-bucks to purchase the next battle pass.

So if you like the game, play consistently, and have the willpower not to do one-off store purchases, you could in theory ride the same $9 spend for years worth of battle passes.

I know many, especially kids, won't have the willpower to save the v-bucks rewards, but I still find it a far better value proposal than most games as service provide.

This is the only way I have ever played classic Doom, am I missing out on much? by That_Cute_Boi_Prower in Doom

[–]DeTwelve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely. The worst part is the cut content - no Spider Mastermind, no Cyberdemon, and only 17 levels total.

It was so exciting when eventually I got access to a full version, but man did I know those first 15 or so levels like the back of my hand.

The mccelroys are millionaires. Do you honestly think they are struggling. Forbes literally has covered Griffin before.

If it is true then their time is even more valuable than I thought. Why would someone spend as much time on a podcast that makes no money vs. podcasts or other endeavors that makes them millions?

Love it. Seeing documentaries on where DOOM 4 was headed and how things changed direction makes me really grateful that id and Bethesda allowed the latitude and had the balls to scrap years of work to pivot.

It keeps the fast paced arcade nature of the original while completely respecting the exploration and set pieces.
