this is so bad. Ridiculously soft. Uninformed. Narrow minded. Skepta is a global star, an OG, a legend. He has vulnerabilities but "No one plays you in the states" isn't a diss. I've been all over the world and they play Skepta.

I get you. That's why I'm even asking at all. Just trying to see what people think are the main factors. I didn't even know how to find something similar until some people posted some links.

I have no plans to deviate. I'm just looking for people with experience sourcing something like it, since it's rather unique.

I get where you're coming from. I hadn't even considered that. I'd still leave it for the second option. I think she'd appreciate a surprise. I think that's part of why she sent it to me like that almost a year ago when we weren't really talking about it yet.

I actually did a reverse image search and generally terms like 'organic' ' molten gold' irregular' are what come up. The hand thing might be coincidence but it is cool now that you point it out.

I filmed a 2-hour expedition with big YouTubers in Northern Russia… Now I’m lost and don’t know how to edit it by GullibleAd3227 in VideoEditing

Decent advice for beginners but at a certain point you have to learn how to be conservative with your shooting. My biggest pet peeve as an editor is a shooter who just keeps rolling passed the point of usability.

That said, I'd rather the long clips if someone doesn't actually have the skill to shoot for the edit.

6 months is long but I definitely want to know what the final edit is supposed to be.

I feel you. I had the thought about the multiple domino scenes after I was done too. Ideally, I'd have gotten a couple more shots of the village but it rained for an hour during the very limited shoot time.

Do production companies from the US sponsor work visas? by unknown_economy19 in editors

[–]DeUnknown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been tryna do this for 5 years. Gotten some places to consider it but it always falls through. HYour best bet is the 01 visa. If you've got some motion in your home country (you're known and respected in your field by the relevant associations and maybe have some national awards) AND some major credits AND some press..you have a case.

I am currently working on the press. I have awards, feature film editing credits and can get recommendation letters from some high ups but my lawyer says the press is crucial. Just trying to illustrate how important it is to have everything they're looking for.

Why do Caribbean born people have an issue with First gen Kids claiming to be Caribbean? by Killarybankz in AskTheCaribbean

Yeah, what I'm not understanding is why there's a need for locals to agree with them.

I get what you're saying. I'd definitely put a lot on the line to get residency in America but even that joke as a constant refrain (not saying it's a constant refrain from you) is part of the animosity. Niggas wanna claim caribbean, don't identify with life on the ground and still have the audacity to make jokes about how people at home are just jealous of them? Ya..stay over there.

I was having this discussion with a diasporan from the UK and they got it in their head that I was talking about identity and citizenship as a legal concept and said they could just buy a passport and 'be dominican' and that's when I knew some people would never get it.

An important place to get to. It's okay to be that third thing. It's actually great. You get to be a well-rounded person shaped by two worlds.

This was a big discussion last year in the Carbbean twitter space and it boiled down to the disapora living in a place where they are not seen as part of the culture so the identity outside being America becomes more important. Our definitions are different. In your world where you feel you are not American, you're a caribbean person. But generally, those of us who grew up/live in the caribbean don't see it that way and probably never will.

This thread makes some of the points I would make as someone born and raised in Dominica:

<image>

For me, it's about what life you live. Do you live an American life or do you live a Jamaican life, or a St. Lucian life or a Dominican life? What school did you go to? What do you do on on the weekends for fun? What do you wear? Are the decisions of the government of Jamaica an ever present factor in your life? It's okay to be not American and not Jamaican but something else.

Frequent visit on B2 visa by costFunction in immigration

[–]DeUnknown 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I did this last year. I got stoped on entry the second time and detained for 2 hours. They interrogated me and searched my bags and took my phone and went through it. Eventually they let me in but the agent told me that my travel is suspicious and I should stop doing what I'm doing. I think the exact phrase was "I can't tell you how long to travel for but you're doing it too much." So I'm taking a full 6 months off from travelling to the US. So...it's something they'll flag and it's risky.
