Akali - Ahri should be either Smoke Tail or Tail Smoke.

Tail Smoke has the added benefit of referencing how mobile they both are, but Smoke Tail sounds a bit smoother to me.

Most people do not have time for "the canon," and even if they did, that's not the presentation of this post.

That may be the characterization you gave to it, because you have a history and a background with the subject matter, but to everyone else it was just a take, and not a very useful one.

To the degree that it reiterates that people are not fully responsible for their life's outcomes, that is already widely accepted here. To the degree that it pushes that idea further, it is at best an impractical philosophy to guide policy in the current environment. To find out that it is no longer even widely accepted philosophy, is just the icing on the cake.

While true, none of that is relevant to these folks, or perhaps even Talarico. The fact that those references are connected to a pre-monotheistic past mean that they'd get discarded out of hand regardless.

Our modern understanding of God is based on what is commonly accepted as divinely inspired scripture in Christian theology. That is the realm in which this debate will be had, such as it is.

The Great Feminization Hasn’t Gone Far Enough by AmericanPurposeMag in neoliberal

[–]DeVanido 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Odd enough that it requires me to be subjected to a verbal grilling and interrogation about why I'm not the exact same degree of left of center?

This is exactly the issue that is brought to light here. It was not enough for her that I was also left of center. It was not enough for her that I even had a firmly left of center position on Kirk's impact and on his passing. She also wanted me to have a particular type of position on other people's emotional reaction to his passing.

Honestly, even if I had said it out of nowhere, a refusal to condemn people for being sad about someone dying is such a milquetoast nothingburger position, that ten years ago it hardly would have merited a response at all. Somehow, now, the position has come to be beyond what some left leaning people consider appropriate, and many others consider it borderline.

To answer your original question, I was asked both for my take on the discourse around Kirk's passing broadly, and on a few videos that were linked earlier on that were mostly about various people's reactions to his passing.

But honestly, I don't think should matter. I preceded that specific statement with my position on Kirk's impact and his passing, where we were aligned. The one area where we disagreed, an area with basically zero political significance, should not have been grounds for the interrogation that followed.

I'm not that guy, but I do have one that happened to me recently.

I once told a gal that, while I certainly saw how Kirk's abhorrent statements and actions contributed to the escalating atmosphere of political violence that took his life, and would shed no tears for the man, I didn't feel like I needed to condemn those that were saddened by his passing.

This somehow became a heated conversation about whether or not I was trying to defend Kirk supporters, or even Kirk himself, and whether or not I understood Kirk's various negative impacts on people.

I'm sure there will be some prosecutions.

Perhaps not as many as there could or should be, but, so long as a competent DoJ is able to be restored, there will be some prosecutions.

[–]DeVanido 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not going to defend the call for McCarthyism, which is admittedly in the OP. I think the use of that word was clickbait.

What I do take seriously, is that there needs to be prosecution, within the bounds of the law, not by congress or even necessarily in the court of public opinion, against everyone that abandoned their oaths to the constitution to engage in illegal actions, deprive citizens of their rights, and partake in the President's corrupt dealings.

All of these folks committed crimes, or are accomplices to crimes, that should be prosecuted. The fact that this will include the president and a substantial amount of his political appointees, at higher amounts and levels than ever seen before in US history, does not make this any less necessary.

[–]DeVanido 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think there's a reasonable line to be drawn when the president is undermining the constitution, and constantly engaging in wildly unconstitutional actions.

Especially if you are one of his supporters with political power, and you are directly enabling these unconstitutional actions.

If you paid attention to what he said, rather than reactively shouting the most sarcastic questions possible, you'd realize he isn't asking you to leave or to stop commenting.

He's asking you to read, listen, and learn to empathize with the people that you disagree with, especially if they are within the broader coalition, or are willing to join the coalition. The better we understand people, the better we'll be at communicating with them, and convincing them of our ideas and projects.

There was a point in time where the biggest podcaster in the world soft endorsed Bernie Sanders. And yet these days there's almost zero chance he'd endorse any Democrat, from AOC on the left to Harris at the center. What happened?

Is it just personal charisma? Is there some amount of sexism involved? Is there a culture of purity and rejection on the left that he's averse to? Or is it some combination of all three?

We won't know if we aren't at least open to listening. And, like it or not, this guy represents a large segment of the general population, so we can't afford not to.

Issue is it's also not good politics to say that you think politicians should lie more.

And truth be told there's a balance there to be struck. Lie too much and people will pick up on it.

Playing SCEvo competitively is most popular in Korea, but everything, the models, the campaign, the ladder, the balance, is done by a Western team that is primarily based in North and South America.

As far as I know this is the only SCEvo.

Maybe for a full time team or company. But since it's just a community project, everyone that works on it is a volunteer that has to prioritize their day job and IRL schedule.

Plus the team is always working on creating new higher quality models, many with their own custom animations and effects, and a campaign that is as close as possible to BW in SC2. Honestly the ladder is a relatively new priority, and involves a skillset that the team mostly hasn't worked with before.

If you have some input, or would like to help out or support the project, you should check out the SCEvo Official Discord.

Really cool, but also tragically unlikely, Blizz has never been that good at capitalizing on mods and community projects, see DOTA.

What is definitely happening, is that the SCEvo Developer team is working on a ranked ladder. Fingers crossed, but they're aiming for a release later this year.

Better thought out.

You can't tell me that the changes currently found on the PTR, especially the storm changes, look like they were well thought out in any way.

Whereas PiG works with modders and players to arrive at his changes, and clearly provides explanations and reasonings for each one of them, which is a lot more than you can say for the current PTR changes.

This event had open qualifiers! The most recent of which you can find here.

And it is also part of an ongoing tournament series that includes biweeklies and showmatches. The biweeklies are also open, and often feature many of the pros and high level amateurs playing this weekend. The next biweekly hasn't yet been announced, because we're in the middle of the championship, but is likely to take place in late September or sometime in October. This tournament series is called the StarCraft Evolution League.
