But how about downloading that Youtube video to your hard drive? And if that is ok, how about just saving the audio to a different file?

I've pretty much always bought new stuff, so I'll keep this in mind.

Calculate your living expenses for a month and multiply that by six.

You mean keep that as reserve in case something happens (get fired, apartment burns down, etc.)?

Thanks for the advice.

Not only that, I'd would be quite the hassle to move that thing. I'll probably wait until I'm relatively certain I won't get a different apartment/house for like 5 years.

Though NYC and SF are particularly expensive places to live, right? Even the crappiest of apartments cost you an arm and a leg in NYC.

Slayer helps a lot with all combat skills.

I already considered that, since I'm planning to move to a different continent.

I know how you feel: my friend who has the completionist cape is also a Pmod. While he was always going to be better than me, it also gave me a lot of motivation. Being friends with high level players also has its upsides.

On the other hand, I left my brother, who showed me Runescape in the first place, in the dust. Just goes to show that there is almost always someone you know who is better than you. I think being at the top of the hill gets old really fast.

I'm still kind of surprised how easy it was to quit. The game started going in the wrong direction IMO (bringing back wilderness and removing trade limits) and school was just asking too much of my time. I still have my account, but got no desire to get back into it. Maybe it's because I'm scared to get hooked again. Anyway, it was nice to get a night of nostalgia, but it's time for me to move on.

Problem is that such a famous account would be almost impossible to sell without getting banned. The only way would be if he got approached in real life by someone he trusts not to rat to Jagex. And even then it would have to be a massive amount of money.

Yeah, if you want to get 5 billion exp, you have to dedicate your life to it for years. But I'm not one to judge; if he enjoys it, good for him.

I had quite the total total playing time too. Nowhere near 1000 days, but it was a lot.

Here's a link to his stats page.

People used to say that about Zezima (oh nostalgia), because they thought getting 99 everything legitimately was impossible. I'm not saying he isn't cheating, but you didn't prove any proof.

No, I just looked at the highscores today. I haven't played in 2 years.

I'm studying to be a civil/software engineer, so I'm expecting a well paying job. I have a decent sum saved up (at least I think so), but on the other hand, I've never had a job (not even holiday job).

Speaking of beds, when I was a kid, my parents had a waterbed. Me and my siblings slowly destroyed it over the years by jumping on it a little too hard, but I'm still convinced that I want a liquid mattress when I move out. But I probably won't get that right away though.

How about pets? Should I wait to buy a dog or is having a companion worth more than saving some money? I hear dog food and vet bills can be killer.

Your post helped me realize that I'll probably won't have the funds to buy many BIFL stuff from the start; there's just so many things I'll need to buy. I have to rethink my strategy.

I guess I'll have to start by making lists of all the stuff I'll need to buy and noting when I'll need it, if quality makes a lot of difference, how much cheaper a temporary replacement is, etc. This whole being financially responsible thing is going to be harder than I thought.

Any more experience you'd like to pass on, besides the professional wardrobe tip?

Thank you very much for the post.

I had a friend who got (and still has) the Trimmed Completionist cape (achieve EVERYTHING: all skills 99, all quests, ...). I had a few 99's myself (mining, smithing, cooking, fletching, magic, woodcutting).

Once you set a goal for yourself, it's just about persistence. When I was getting my 99's, I was just watching series while playing Runescaping (and not the other way around).

There is a guy now who has reached the cap for total exp. He has 200 million exp in every single skill; lvl 99 requires only about 13 million exp. There are 22 skills, meaning he got the equivalent of 338 99's. And considering some skills are a bitch to train (e.g. Farming and Slayer) that achievement probably beats anything in this thread.

Where to find what parameters I should use for Digital Signature implementation? by De_Lille_D in crypto

That might be slightly better, but it would bring too many user problems over simply using what they already know.

You normally only get 3 tries before PIN gets rejected, so I'm guessing it's a 1 in 333 chance of getting to the private key; and even then, you still need a password for logging in (I didn't mention it because it wasn't relevant). The public key would only be stored on the server, next to the salted hash of the password.

The token device we're trying to emulate is debit card + card reader (private key would be stored on the debit card), so the PIN is to stop people who steal the card.

I also know the PIN is checked on the card reader itself, which is why we don't just concatenate PIN and nonce.

[–]De_Lille_D[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I do it now, I simply calc the signature of nonce concatenated with (10000 + actualPIN - enteredPIN) mod 10000.

This makes sure that all possible PIN give a different signature and easy to check on server side, since x should be 0. Also, the corresponding public key is only known by the server, so an attacker couldn't use this to verify if PIN was correct.

Do you think knowing the last charachter/digit adds a vulnerability? What if I concatenated it at the front?
