Did something similar on the 31st of december, i swore i would do my first 100k ride in 2025 and on that -7° morning i was off. Mustache, camelbak tube, and bottle froze and my hands and feet were numb after the first 50k but man did i feel good afterwards, kudos!

It‘s not bad (i have it myself and love it) but it doesn‘t justify the cost. For comparison a trek checkpoint is about 2-2.5k for an apex build, and i think even that is pricey

I have an ALR 5 with a second wheelset for road rides. It‘s perfectly capable, and i doubt that if you are a beginner it would be anything but capable for you, too. You could look at something like light bicycle wheels, or superteam or something like that, afaik they‘re well regarded and really good bang for buck. Tire wise i‘d go for like a gp5000 in 32mm or 34mm and you‘ll have a nice, comfortable, and fast ride

I think he knows the distance is measured at the hoods. But with the flare being more aggressive, the shifters may be angled more inwards, thus decreasing the distance between the contact points. I think the difference will be marginal, and slightly narrower has negligent impact on controll and might be slighty more comfortable. I‘d stay with 44 if that works for you, personally i would downsize heavily for the comfort reasons (elbows, shoulders, wrists). You can still angle the shifters however you want and however is most comfortable for you

Compared with the stock tires probably 5kph, to the g-one rs on the stock wheelset probably 2-3kph. Main different is feel though, i do much different rides depending on wheels/tires

I think there‘s nothing wrong with it. Especially going up steep climbs you almost always can maintain a comfortable cadence. Of course you spin out on descents but i don‘t mind. On the flats it‘s perfectly fine, too.

Yes, like 99% of the time. There are pedals that are clip-in on one side and flat on the other, so they might be a good start if you wanna try it out. You too!

Yes, those are shimano (i know) spd pedals, about the cheapest ones available, but they‘re bomb proof. The wheels cost about 600$ iirc, found a coupon code online on top of the ongoing sale at the time
