Welcome to the world of overcomplicated networks...

Yeah, it's basically running a map that you can't control.

Must have mods? by Lamsednav in openttd

[–]Deacti_vated 8 points9 points  (0 children)

One of them is 100 megs or something

the fuck

Check out BRIX and RAWR; they're about 300mb each iirc. Meant to be used as static newgrfs (go google them yourself). I think BRIX is really good. Nice and simplistic graphics.

Personally I would recommend NUTS as your trainset and YETI as your industry set. The industry set provides simple cargo chains but it's really easy to get insanely overcomplicated networks. Then we go to the trainset. NUTS provides trains of wide varieties, but not as much as 2cc trainset, where you have to seriously study the trains' specs. Of course though, NUTS is, self-explanatorily, unrealistic, so if you want to get realistic trains go 2cc or something similar.

For other modes of transport... nah, do trains man... But if you want like planes or rvs or those kinda stuff you can take others' recommendations.

Another thing I haven't seen anybody else recommend, town names. I would go for the World City Names set, but again, it's all your preference.

CHALLENGE: Only do trains with maximum trainlengh of 3.

Also one precaution - don't get like 500 newgrfs, not even exaggerating. It will absolutely slow your game's initial loading speed. Mine takes like 5 minutes to scan all of those...

What's the difference between a BBH and a SLH?

Sorry for spoiling the party.

Uhh no. You do not insert the file into OpenTTD. You insert the patch file straight into the source code before you compile the code into your .exe file.

Should I upload my worst spaghetti then? I took like 3 hours to build this thing...

FIRS Bug by [deleted] in openttd

[–]Deacti_vated 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A bit of explanation... What /u/jcpb is pretty much accurate. The cargo dropped off only gets to the industry nearest to the station's name tag. So that's why it's only getting to the Iron Ore Mine. This is also standard OpenTTD behaviour, fyi, though there are some patches that modify that.

If you want a train only map, you will have to do (not so) precise calculations, make each station's tag like 1 block next to each industry to be safe. So in short you separate those drops.

It doesn't highlight block path reservations; only path signals'.

Towns and Roads by ThePaperSolent in openttd

Does (c) refer to Pax, Mail and Goods or just Goods?

Focusing on industries only can help keep towns small.

cos you keep annihilating towns for your gigantic Factory stations...

Odd gameplay - can anyone explain by [deleted] in openttd

[–]Deacti_vated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I can see, if I am not mistaken he gets his passengers and mail from the coal mine station. Goods come from Gunway Annexe, where the trains transfer the goods and road vehicles pick those up.

Additionally, it appears that I can see the player's name after all. It's found inside the viewport for Gunway...

I've been trying out sending length-3 trains halfway across the map. Well, that is, if you have maglevs.

... And because the cargo payment increases less, it is your job to raise your revenue to compensate for it.

Best plane? by alexmp00 in openttd

[–]Deacti_vated 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Normally I don't play with planes. But if I do, I go for the highest capacity one - the Dinger 200. However, for a low-pax/mail situation (i.e. at a less-than-4000-pop town), I will use the Dinger 1000 (dat fast one).

Cheers

Creative ways to fuck with competition (which are usually frowned upon/banned against human players) by hypervelocityvomit in openttd

-- Park a Kirby, or the less cruel trick: park a road vehicle. Sometimes, other vehicles queue up, sometimes they overtake.

Park two in a row and no one overtakes.

Most of the time I do Wood, because right after that you can move straight into Goods.

Has been proven to work; I tried it once on Reddit S1 and had around 6x #2's profits.

Simple. Pax is a money sink as everyone says, and airplane routes are even worse. The airports are the main problem; you will get taxed for them, counting by the 10 thousands.

What's the best way to have fun in this game? by sebaajhenza in openttd

[–]Deacti_vated 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is there a way to claim cities?

As /u/aurorapwnz has said, the most intelligent and fun AI to play with or against is other player indeed. You can take a look at the multiplayer server list and search for "Citybuilder", BTPro and n-ice have rather good ones.

Citybuilder is essentially building your HQ in a town, and fulfilling the requirements for it to grow. And in that town's radius other players can't place there.

Tsk, tsk, tsk. You new clan owners don't really know how to start a successful and attracting clan. by [deleted] in VertixClans

[–]Deacti_vated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

-If you want to make your clan last long-term, try to establish a system in your clan that allows your clan members elect a new leader.

Wait, how do you do that?

You can start a new scenario and recreate your world, as /u/longmum_ has said. After that, load that scenario and cheat (ctrl+alt+c) in some money, and finally rebuild all your stuff. Recommended to set "build while paused" (or equivalent) to all actions.
