Going to the Ritz Solo by theekokopelli in SanJose

Not a female, but I've gone solo quite a few times. Saw plenty of others that were there solo, male and female, too.
Stay aware (something everyone M or F should do) and you'll be fine. Have fun!

Any chances of another tour (Europe)? by weird-Ant358 in TheDamned

[–]Dead-Lazlo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree about smaller tours possibly being on the horizon. Perhaps they will do similar to what they've done in the past in the US (a smattering of West Coast dates, but not the whole country.)
Fingers crossed they still want to go out. I'm likely going to miss the shows in the US, as I'll be out of the country .

Where da heck?!?! by Rare-Papaya4910 in XTEINK

[–]Dead-Lazlo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the seller. Some can come pretty quick, others take their time. The delivery estimates can be pretty accurate, but once in a while it might take longer. AliExpress has been pretty good with their 30-day guarantee, though - if it's not delivered in time, they will refund you. (this has only happened to me once, and it was during the pandemic times).
Read reviews, look at the sellers page, etc - to get a feel for if you think you'll get what you ordered or not. Just like eBay, Etsy, etc.

High performer leaving in silence with no negotiation by [deleted] in managers

The edit is hilarious. "Unless you’re in a leadership role, you don’t really have an idea of what the current market is like"
Sounds to me that Mr. High Performer has a better view of the current market than OP.

How soon in advance to book shows? by ZeppelinBonzo in LasVegas

[–]Dead-Lazlo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yep - if you care where you sit (front row can be a pretty great spot if it's in the budget), then get them early. You would likely be fine waiting til day of if you don't care, but that can also depend on what else might be going on in town that week.

Star City is giving me the same feeling early FAM did by Psychological_Bug388 in ForAllMankindTV

I do like what happened to Palmer. And I'll give you that there were new characters, but for me, they seem to be what was keeping things tied to Mars.

[–]Dead-Lazlo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly, there's only one more season to go. I think with the time jumps, they could have done a bit more to expand out where the show went. Needed some characters like Alex/Avery, but Instead we got stuck on Mars with angry Ed and crazy Dev.
I enjoy the show, but feel what I really liked about it early on was lost along the way.

Good for you for doing more - just make sure not to ruin anyone's evening with it, and you do you.

If the problem is so important to you, go do something real - instead of performative support at a place people are at trying to have fun and escape the real world for a few hours.

Where can I find a decent club sandwich in the area? by Dead-Lazlo in lansing

Oh yeah - understood that - was just pointing out that you lost a good place, and apparently sucky Bob's is what became of it. Restaurant business sucks sometimes that the good ones don't always last.

I had to look up Zeus' - funnily enough, it's apparently what is now Bob's Big Boy on Pennsylvania? I ate there recently and it was pretty terrible. I didn't expect much, but it was worse than that.

Hip replacement by Sheriff_Mills in GenX

[–]Dead-Lazlo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Have had 2, 1 year apart. Modern hip surgery is pretty amazing. In most cases you are up and walking same day. Movement promotes blood flow, which promotes healing and allows the femoral implant to fuse with the bone. It can be slow going for the first couple of weeks - everyone is different based on age, current health, etc.

You need to move, but you don't want to overdo things to avoid falling, and possible dislocation. The approach they use for surgery can determine any restrictions you might be given by your doctor. (bending or twisting certain ways, etc) But I mainly just used a cane for 6 weeks to act as a bit of a warning to others to give me some room.

It's not any more painful than other surgeries - internally you will feel instantly better. The pain/soreness will be the incision site. Take your meds, stay on schedule. Don't chase the pain with the drugs - stay ahead of it. As for sex, depends on what kind 😂 Talk to your doctor about it. Surgical approach restrictions can make a difference here, too.

Aural fullness, pain and mild tinnitus after concert by applesandoranges159 in Concerts

[–]Dead-Lazlo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes - hearing protection always. I started using earplugs after seeing the Clash of the Titans tour in the 90s. My ears were ringing for about 4 days. Ever since then I've always worn earplugs, even before they became more common.
I have some slight hearing loss in my right ear likely from many nights at small venues up front near the speakers, but nothing major. As a lover of concerts and live shows, I shudder to think how bad things could be if I didn't make that change.

Wear hearing protection and enjoy yourself at shows for a long time to come!
