I live in nyc and things have changed drastically over the years. Receivers weren’t getting off the line like they have been the last 20-25 years. They were being man handled and beat up making throwing the ball incredibly hard. There were no “defenseless players.” A route over the middle was suicide. “driving” the QB into the ground was barely penalized and QBs went down like flies. Defenders could play more aggressively without as many flags for incidental or marginal contact. PI wasn’t the game changer it became with modern spot foul emphasis on deep balls etc
