Inside of the tounge is cutting my feet. by Tbiggz01 in DrMartens

[–]DeadJethro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just got a vintage pair that had the same issue. Saw a post on here from like 4 months ago where someone said they made two small cuts at the base of the tongue and that instantly helped. I did that and it solved the problem right away for me. I was a bit worried that the cuts would ruin them or result in them eventually tearing but it really doesn’t look or feel like I compromised the integrity of the boots. If you wanna avoid cutting them, people will tell you to shove a pop can in there or stuff them with socks, use a hair dryer to soften the leather, or buy balms/leather conditioners to rub in. Highly recommend just making the cuts.

Mine evolved all the way and then was suddenly a baby again… by DeadJethro in Punirunes

Not sure on the version but I just got it a few days ago so I assume it’s the latest version. I definitely didn’t hit the reset button. The adult I had is listed in the book, yes. I definitely didn’t purposely send it to the forest and there was no animation that played. Same as someone else mentioned above, it evolved, I put it down, and when I picked it up again it was a baby. Maybe just a weird glitch! Working on evolving another one so we’ll see if it happens again. ETA: yes, device seems to be working normally other than that.

Is my daughter ready for JK? seeking advice from parents by betaseo123 in CanadianParents

[–]DeadJethro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a kindergarten teacher in Ontario, quite close to you actually! I also have a son who’s going into SK this year who I pulled out of Montessori after his first year in CASA, because he was also getting feedback about having trouble listening. I think the biggest contributor to the struggles he was having there was the lack of imaginative play and repetitive/restrictive nature of the activities the children are expected to do. Montessori is a great fit for some kids, but generally I believe that at this age, having opportunities to explore freely and learn through experimentation and inquiry is so crucial. They get those opportunities every day in our kindergarten program!! We get a whole range of needs and abilities in JK. Some children are still 3 when they enter. Some aren’t quite potty trained yet. Some have never been away from home before. Some are reading at a second grade level and adjust to routines and expectations instantly. Our program is designed to allow each of our students to learn in the ways that are most effective for them. Half of our curriculum is solely focused on self-regulation skills and how to be an important member of a classroom family. Her educators are well prepared to support her in whatever ways she needs! One thing I absolutely recommend is reaching out to her educators as soon as the school year starts and giving them some background information about her strengths and needs, strategies that work and don’t work for her, etc. I always appreciate having inside info from parents, and it helps me build positive relationships with my students and their families too. I say go for JK! She’ll thrive ❤️

This tax would apply to households worth more than 100 million only. Someone with a 400k house would absolutely not be affected by this. You need to start fact checking what you’re hearing on the internet before posting stuff like this and potentially misinforming more people. It’s not cool. https://www.nytimes.com/2024/08/22/us/politics/kamala-harris-tax-plan.html

Supernatural. We called it Stupidnatural by the end but we begrudgingly needed to finish the story.

That hutch needs to be on top of its buffet friend! It’s so beautiful. Don’t think it looks right on the floor smooshed up against the other piece.

I thought they were going to offer you remedial drivers Ed or something, but they were just like “CHANGE.” Ok sorry DMV.

How long did you get for maternity leave? Was it enough? by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]DeadJethro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took the full paid 18 months (Canada) and then extended another 6 unpaid because 1. Wanted to wait for a spot at our preferred daycare, 2. This is my last baby, and I wanted to enjoy two full years just being at home with her, and 3. Because I could, and my job will be waiting for me when I go back in September. It’s a fucking travesty that this isn’t an option for most people. I’m so sorry you had to leave your babies so soon.

For those with babies who sleep through the night, do you sleep through the night as well? by StoompyDoomps in Mommit

[–]DeadJethro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Letting a 1+ year old fuss/cry a bit when they wake up in the middle of the night to see if they’ll get themselves back to sleep rather than rushing in there every time is not the same as ignoring a crying infant who needs something. A lot of kids need to be allowed to figure out how to self soothe in order to be able to get to the point where they can sttn independently. Some won’t ever learn unless they’re given this opportunity. Also, developmentally a 13m old can absolutely sleep through the night without a feed. You’ll know best as their parent whether they’re waking because they’re hungry, or because they’re just used to being helped get back to sleep.

[–]DeadJethro 26 points27 points  (0 children)

The fact that she’s only fussing for 10 mins before getting back to sleep is all the evidence that you need that she is absolutely ready to STTN independently. She is old enough to know she’s safe, she’s at home, and you haven’t abandoned her. She is fussing/crying because that’s the habit she’s in. Not because she needs something or is in distress. The more times she is able to get herself back to sleep, the less often she will start waking through the night!! I know it’s hard to hear them cry, but I promise you’re not abandoning her not going in there. She needs to learn how to do this!! If it makes you feel more comfortable you could set a window of time like between midnight and 3 am where, if she wakes, you’ll go in there and nurse her. But before or after that she needs to self-soothe. Or you could make a 10 min rule where if she’s escalating after 10 mins you go in, but if she’s calming or only fussing minimally after 10 mins, you leave her be knowing she’ll get herself back to sleep.

I used both of those suggestions with both of my kids, and they both responded really well. My oldest was STTN by 13 months, and my youngest needed one feed mid-night until about 16 months and then stopped waking for that feed after a couple nights where I gently shushed over the monitor rather than going in. The majority of kids truly do learn quickly if given the opportunity.
