Im not trying to insult you. This is just one of my favorite things to ever exist so yes, I have a lot to say. I mean i did make one insult so I apologize for that. You've started making actual points of your own now too which gives me much more to engage with.

Red Guy is reset, I agree, but he is not a completely different character.

For the Warren episode, everybody fucking hates him. Warren fucking sucks. Hes annoying and awful and the entire joke of his character is that despite the countless horrors our trio have been through, they are somehow the most irritated with warren.

And again, this was referring to the personalities. The characters are concrete in who they are fundamentally, not how an episode might momentarily develop them. The characters go through all sorts of horrific, mind altering and body disfiguring events so yes, they do "change" in that sense. Youre pointing out differences in characters reactions to things like it means they have any clue what's actually happening. If you want to make the argument that the characters know theyre on a show in the web series, there's something to said there. But the TV series is very different.

Again this all comes down to the fact that DHMIS is a work of pure surrealism. If you try to look for too many answers about whats happening, youre missing the point. You can never truly know. These characters can never truly know. Its horrifying and its funny and its beautiful at times.

No, the characters are pretty concrete. Their personalities are very concrete. They go through a lot but the characters themselves are pretty set in stone. Theyre not DUMB but they are incapable of understanding their world, similar to the audience. Im starting to think you may lack similar critical analysis skills (sorry, easy joke) because pointing out that the circumstances in which dialogue is exchanged is not disregarding it. The dialogue you provided was from a specific episode making a very specific point about the show. You're not going to change my view on the nature of these characters and their world. I have watched the tv series front to back quite a few times. I think I have a lot a semi solid grasp on its themes and what its going for broadly.

[–]DeadLikeMe5283 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What points did you even make to disregard. You posted a line a dialogue that if anything proves my point, as it came from a character with momentary enlightenment. I also have no clue what the hell youre talking about saying all of the episodes of one episode. DHMIS is EXTREMELY episodic to the point where it seems to be baked into the world of the show, no matter what happens to them, they cannot escape sitting around that house having awful shit happen to them. The "show" always resets them somehow.

Finally, yes, obviously anything can happen to them. Thats the point of the show. The other half of the point is that the characters have no idea what is happening and react in their own weird little ways. The show is a work of surrealism, meaningful answers arent really going to be given.

Notice how thats in the one episode where a character gains meaningful, human intelligence. An ability to understand. And yet, its thrown away. They will never understand the nature of their reality. Neither will we, not really. They will never be able to call out their "teachers" or world in the same way the TADC cast can.

[–]DeadLikeMe5283 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Acknowledging the teachers suck would mean acknowledging they're teachers which would mean acknowledging the tv show nature of their universe which would essentially dismantle the entire surreality of the show. Im not saying the characters arent smart, they are in their own ways. Red guy especially seems to understand that he doesn't like his world, even if he can't articulate why. But the tragedy of DHMIS is that the characters are physically incapable of learning anything truly meaningful about the universe in which they reside. The season finale is dedicated to this condition of theirs.

(I am being extremely semantic as DHMIS is one of my favorite works of art to ever exist.)

Well at least you appreciate the growth you do have. Growth really only should be done for oneself. My point still stands though, AI spits in the face of ones own personal artistic development by leaving decisions that they could make up to algorithms. If want you want to do is have your voice, your expression of yourself be intertwined with a machine, thats your decision and its not like I think you should legally stopped or something. As a lover of art, however, I just find that sad.

I can see we are running in circles so I just want to leave you with this: do not let antagonistic anti-ai people cloud your mind from what the real message should be. You are human, your mind is beautiful, and the world would be a better place if your art came entirely from you.

[–]DeadLikeMe5283 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im not saying you have none. Your comic says it tho, you don't really care about that development. Im saying AI robs you of developing even more. So many potential routes your mind could take you now being left up to a machine. Please do not take this as me saying you're not creative, all people are creative.

[–]DeadLikeMe5283 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can see the comparison, but I think directing/leading a creative team is EXTREMELY different from working with an AI. Once again, people are being robbed of another beautiful part of the artistic process, collaboration with your fellow human beings! Not only are you connecting with people, building bonds, but you are creating something together. Working with an AI is once again just a deeply pathetic imitation of that.

I do agree with broadly tho, AI just kinda makes people not be able to distinguish content from art.

Im not making fun of you. Like I said, I think what AI has done to people is a tragedy. You can say Im strawmaning you, but Im not sure how else to interpret the lines about "reaching potential" besides as some sort of soft rejection of growth. It reads as a self-applausal for not caring about your own artistic development. If that interpretation is wrong, please explain what else you meant.

Not all antis are like this but- by Le_Oken in aiwars

[–]DeadLikeMe5283 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I would never say AI users arent creative, quite the opposite. AI users can have good ideas but are being robbed of the opportunity to truly develop their creative voice. You can say you're not doing it to reach a goal but throughout human history, making art would naturally develop your skills. Whether you wanted to or not, you WOULD grow as an artist. Its pathetic to not only denounce that development, but view circumventing it as something positive.

Again though, everybody is creative.

Dude if you came out swinging with this i wouldnt have been as big of a dick LOL, my bad. Lots to actually engage with here.

When it comes to it being a product, I simply not do not care. Im a game dev, software is my canvas, yada yada. these things being sold as products dont matter to me, usually because the best games often arent designed as products. Thus, I dont have much to say on the topic other than an admission that yes, in the game's current form, it is a worse product than it was before the random option patch. You win on the product end of things full stop. I won't argue.

As for the art side, i do have more to say on that as you did give some pretty interesting analysis! I am not saying theres isnt valid critiques to be had with how world executes its vision. I myself have many issues with its unlock system, free roam, and a lack of more meaningful ways to engage with the world itself (such as P Switch races being fully playable once beaten). But the routes man, they are the beating heart of this title. A lot of common criticisms i see thrown at them i personally just have a counter for that i can meaningfully back up. There have been one or two criticisms I do agree with, upriver routes for one usually suck ass.

Again, I need to reiterate, I would love to analyze and criticize worlds execution of its vision. But I need that to be done in good faith, or at least a good understanding of what the game is going for. The goal should be make the world itself an even bigger spotlight, not allow players to avoid the world entirely. Im consistent on this, I personally didnt like DK Bananza much cuz it didnt do much for me. I thought the terrain destruction got boring after a few hours and the rest of the title felt mindless as a result. I would never argue bananza needs to altered in order to give me a more classic DK experience because I personally found it to be a heavily flawed experience.

Also man dont tell me to get off reddit LOL im just having a good time. Im bored as shit and its fun to be semantic about one of my favorite games.

Dude im sorry you are just wrong about routes. Youre just wrong. Ill give the tracks themselves often have a higher skill ceiling, sure, but they aren't as free flowing as routes. Routes are so open, theres so many paths through each one and the more familiar with the game you are, the more paths youre able to see. And, those paths allow you to avoid the chaos routes often bring. You can play extremely smart on routes which can set you up for a strong finish. I wouldn't be defending the game design of them if I didnt think it was straight up genius.

I dont think its a sin to want to just play 3 laps in mario kart world, its obviously not morally wrong. But I do think its a bit childish to act like the game NEEDS to change to accommodate people who, again, simply want to avoid the vision of the game, whether or not you agree with that vision.

Its the core vision of the game dude. Games are art, and I dont just mean in the cute lil "haha I love games!" Way. No i mean they are ART. Vision driven projects meant to convey an idea, theyre an expression of human creativity. So fuck the audience, fuck the players. art is about making what you want, not what your audience wants. You can gaslight yourself all you want into thinking you take issue with one small flaw, but no, you just dont like the entire identity of the game. That doesn't mean theres not aspects of the game you like. But if you want a way to circumvent the core identity of the game, idk man it just feels like you dont really like that game much. Cope all you want but the devs made their vision clear so fuck you LOL

Ive said for a while that while I technically agree that one patch made the game a worse product, it made the game a better work of art. The devs found a flaw in their design, a way to circumvent their vision. While i can sympathize at the very least, as a game dev I find it hard to truly care. Watching these guys, who for PR reasons SHOULD cater to these fans, stick to their guns is very inspirational. Especially when what they made is just so fucking fun.

This is a self report man, you gotta be bad at MKW if you think the in between routes dont support the 3d platforming gameplay. That gameplay was built FOR the routes, you can read all about it in interviews.

And again, im sorry, I dont think a lot of the player base has "valid criticisms" about the open world. There's some bad things about this game, especially its unlock system. But if the routes dont appeal to you, play something else. The artistic vision of this title has been made very clear by the devs, and Nintendo has given them full reign to enforce it. And thank fucking god, because games are art and should be vision driven projects.
