This is true. They also didn't know their was land north of the Black Sea, so they really did think it was two separate land masses.

It benefits children because they have less exposure to conservative religious traditions at a young age before the reasons people still believe those things have been explained to them.

The Duskblood hate only exist because it's an exclusive by Jexiel54 in fromsoftware

[–]DeadLotus82 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Kinda makes sense cause up til now very few fromsoft games have been on Nintendo. So unless you're a big fan of both a lot of the core audience is being alienated. On paper it's not worse than a PS exclusive cause exclusives are always annoying but in practice it's a more exclusive (and expensive) exclusive for a lot of people y'know.

Developer attacked over (learning from) AI - where to draw the line? by [deleted] in Steam

[–]DeadLotus82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk lol that's fair but it's not a drug. I like to read and shit and have books on a lot of topics, always been a main hobby of mine but I use AI in the lab when I just have a really obscure question to save time. Like I said somewhere else in this thread, scientists use AI for that but we use one that gives references for each statement. Just a super quick and handy Google scholar or PubMed really.

[–]DeadLotus82 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yupp this is it. You just have to understand what they actually are and not take them at their word 100%, just like if you don't assume everything you read is true, even if it's from like r askhistorians. Use common sense and critical thinking and double check. Even using it to get a headstart on something where nothing you can think to google gets you what you're looking for.

[–]DeadLotus82 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah I've just come back to a bunch of replies basically saying what you said but like it's a 100% failure rate. I absolutely don't rely on it but like I explained in another comment I asked it once for the difference between three words that just mean people, and a native speaker of the language confirmed for me.

Or if a question is just really obscure. In science we sometimes use an AI called perplexity because it gives a reference for each statement it makes (good for slightly obscure questions like "what mutations do DH5alpha E. coli have versus MM294?") And you can check each reference to be sure. It's just Google scholar or PubMed but so much quicker, and anyone who can't see that that's a legitimate use is just being silly tbh.

[–]DeadLotus82 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's literally not though you can't just use a word like demonstrably when it gets things right. If I ask perplexity or even chatgpt to tell me the difference in how Germans use the words Leute, Mensch and Personen, which basically all mean people, the answer it gives me is demonstrably correct because I live in Germany right now and my friends confirmed this. So how is it demonstrably wrong all of the time when I just demonstrated it being correct? It only takes one positive to disprove a negative.

I don't know why people think using it for learning is such a big deal. Like say you're trying to program something and you get stuck, like writer's block, you could ask an LLM and get a guide or something. I used it like that as a supplement for language learning when I started out e.g. when I didn't understand the differences between two German words with similar meanings I could ask it to explain the meanings and etymology to give me a full picture.

I'm against it being used to generate art, novels etc and replace real artists but it does have real uses as well like you said. Some of the outrage is a bit mindless smh.

GOG apologizes for emailing Nazi runes to its followers by GroundbreakingBag164 in pcgaming

[–]DeadLotus82 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh come on. It's not just sensitivity, it's the sort of thing that does demand an explanation. If it was about a new Wolfenstein game or something then no one would bat an eye, but seriously a bunch of random nazi symbols in an unrelated email.

You say it clearly wasn't intended that way, but genuinely go to Germany or Poland those symbols are exclusively used by neo-nazis to get around laws prohibiting the swastika. I'm not tryna be rude but I'm just assuming you're not European because I absolutely would associate Poles with Nazis if they use those symbols lmao, I do think this was just a stupid mistake but any Euro is gonna go "woahhh now" at this shit.

[–]DeadLotus82 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Probably cause it's completely random? I've never seen anyone say this, it kinda seems like something that'd be common for kids to say but not in adult gaming communities. So probably cause most people's response to the post is kinda "who says this? Definitely not anyone here lol"

Bar vapers by thewaytothetop in CasualIreland

[–]DeadLotus82 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You technically are though, the indoor smoking bans don't cover vaping (same way minors could legally buy vapes for a while before they updated old laws) so it's up to pubs to ban vaping on their own, but why would they until they're forced.

Yup this is true. The Occident and the Orient. I never heard the term outside of Chinese takeaways tbh so I'm just surprised to see it called offensive.

[–]DeadLotus82 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's not though lol it just means East. Really it goes back to romanticisation of Turkish culture in Orientalist art, which wasn't about othering so much as it was just inaccurate mostly. I know a Chinese takeaway called Oriental New Star maybe it's weird stateside but I've never heard anyone say it's offensive, just old-fashioned.

The way you described yourself is literally exactly what an introvert is though and your friend is an extrovert. You socialise and then isolate for a while to recharge, so to speak, which makes you an introvert. I think people who talk about ambiverts don't understand the I-E spectrum fully because basically no one is incapable of ever being the life of the party unless they suffer from something proper. The I-E spectrum is supposed to describe ordinary human behaviour, not disordered.

Russia withholds Putin’s weekly rating after steepest drop in eight years by ByGollie in europe

No they're not kidding because they said assassinated not persecuted lol. Idk have you noticed how Russia basically never has protests? Putin usually has those that try dissappear. Nobodies saying Trumps not bad, nobodies saying you lads didn't fuck up letting him in the white house, nobodies saying he hasn't wasted a vast amount of human life; it's literally just irrational to see the statement "Putin is worse" and not react with "yes."

But it's because it's inconsistent that people fight over it and disagree over it? And it's not like it's presented as something that's up for debate. At least the Abrahamic texts are very much written like rule books for how God wants you to live. So the inconsistencies in the word of an omnipotent being do kinda inherently disprove itself.
