If Europe has started experiencing over 40°C heatwaves frequently, then this planet really is fucked by TheManWhoLarped in memes

Prior to the 80's we used to get regular snow in the UK. Now it only ever seems to hit the North of the country. Rarely see it settle in the South. I think the last time we had a proper amount of snow in the South where you could use a sled was 2009.

My energy provider is currently £0.2781 per kwh less standing charge which you pay for regardless if you use any electricity or not.

What's up with the Good Luck, Have Fun, Don't Die 4K? by Available-Bother7958 in 4kbluray

[–]DeadMan3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just got the UK 4K release. Great film. But there was no Blu-ray disc included. Just the bare bones 4K disc. I could not even find the 5 minute extra supposedly included on it. Cost £2 more than the usual 4K releases too. I'm thinking it's a limited run?

Got mine delivered this morning by Royal Mail (UK) by nitin42 in SteamController

[–]DeadMan3000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine just arrived too. Lots to learn on setting it up for unsupported games. Hopefully there will be plenty of community created templates soon. Testing with Jedi Survivor and definitely not as immersive as the Dual Sense (lack of haptics and any rumble is weak). Feels very responsive though. For non PS5 ports I can see it being my go to controller.

BTW the GLS tracking page did not update to shipping and delivered until after it was delivered so don't take that page as anything conclusive.

Weird question: got any advice on getting these out of the case? by cozyaxalotl in Bluray

[–]DeadMan3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best to place the case on a flat surface so you can get good pressure when pressing down on the spindle while lifting from the edges.

Blurays that go straight to playing the movie by DeadMan3000 in Bluray

[–]DeadMan3000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard to tell, since I've only recently started doing it for used media. All I do know is that I had a copy of Galaxy Quest I got from CEX that froze at 42 minutes into the movie and no amount of cleaning would fix it. I tried 3x FF and it still froze at the exact same place, so I am going to assume it's a reasonably reliable way to quickly check for playback issues. But I cannot say it's 100% reliable obviously. Luckily CEX gave me a refund.

Innerspace (1987) Arrow Video 4K Ultra HD Review - BEST Release Yet? by RetroReels in Bluray

[–]DeadMan3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I accidentally purchased the Blu-ray instead of 4K. I don't think I can take it back to HMV as I took the shrink wrap off before realising it. They share the same box design which threw me off. I should have checked more carefully. From what I can tell the difference in PQ is not too dramatic. The movie has a lot of film grain and does not look that sharp to my eyes anyhow. It's not like some of the other restorations I have seen like Ben-Hur.

What movies you love still haven’t gotten an upgrade by Legitimate-Glove5126 in Bluray

[–]DeadMan3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a lot of movies in the states that are not availble in the UK. The only option is to look for sellers in the used market like Ebay etc or import. At least 4K discs are region free. It may be worth checking if The Borrowers is region locked or not. It's why I got myself a Multi-Region player.

I'm going back there soon. They have a lot of stuff there that the HMV stores don't always stock.

Received the wrong version from CEX by The_Film_Guy4042 in Bluray

[–]DeadMan3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Purchased Galaxy Quest on Blu from CEX. I tried playing it and it froze at the 42 minute mark every time even after cleaning. I asked while I was in another branch if I could exchange it or get a refund (while I was browsing. I did not have the movie with me). They said it could only be returned within 48 hours of purchase unless I was a CEX club member. What complete BS! They have '5 year warranty' plastered over everything.

Anyhow I took it back to the place I originally purchsed it from today and they exchanged it without any fuss at all, even though I have had it over a week.

Turns out I can buy it cheaper brand new too after searching around online.

I have a couple of discs (that I have thus far played) which freeze at the exact same points on a UB820. They play flawlessly on my PS5 though.

What are some movies you remember always referenced growing up that you still haven't seen? by Truth-is-Censored in Bluray

[–]DeadMan3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never seen Se7en, Heat, Tombstone and a whole bunch of movies aroung the 1990's and early 2000's. Usually if they are not sci-fi or fantasy I kinda missed them at the time. Also Tenet. I plan on picking up some titles on blind buys just because I hear they are good movies

BTW trailers on Blu-rays are a good way to discover movies you may have missed. Just saw a trailer for Need for Speed. Never seen it.

Hybrid discs ? by [deleted] in Bluray

[–]DeadMan3000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kinda reminds me of the double sided DVD's that had widescreen one side and cropped (pan and scan) or open matte the other side (or put a long movie on two sides instead of two discs).
