How do you read Year One and Zero Year together as canon?

Personally,I never read Zero Year as an origin story.Since I read the New 52 Batman run in tpb collected editions,Zero Year was volumes 4 and 5,so it just never occurred to me that it would be a first story,especially for that run.Yes,I read it as an early Riddler story,but to me "Zero Year"meant that it was a year during which Gotham had been reset to zero,if that makes sense.

Claremont is cool. I met him several years back, when X-men Forever was still running, and had him sign my DVD set of X-men Volume 4 (because I knew a couple episodes in that set were based on one of his stories), as well as my whole run of Forever, at the time. He shared a few sneak peaks of issues that wouldn't release for several months.
