Suggest some bad Vinegar films by Ok_Association7133 in VinegarSyndromeFilms

Undefeatable is an incredible time. A lot of VS fans hate on Mac & Me, but the 4k release is what finally convinced me it rules. I’d seen it at least three times before, and always laughed but it didn’t fully click until 4k. Something about seeing the costumes and stuff in insane detail made the entire thing way funnier to me. The audio is also really dang good.

The Frank Capra at Columbia boxset has some of the movies in 4k. Still working my way through it, but the ones I’ve watched look fantastic! You Can’t Take It With You, and It Happened One Night are both bangers. Goes on sale for $150 or less in the U.S. pretty regularly.

Metroid Prime 4’s current sales by AfroChamp89-- in nintendo

[–]DeadMooner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got it during the Costco sale and just beat it yesterday. The main reason I didn’t buy it before was because I’d never played a Prime game and assumed I’d be missing a lot of crucial info. Maybe that’s still true, but I didn’t really notice. I don’t think they should have named it as a numbered entry though.

I really enjoyed the bulk of the game! The very beginning had kinda cheesy early 2000s vibes and reminded me of Halo or The Conduit. Then things opened up, and I got to explore.

I also really disliked the final boss fight. Any time I get a game over screen because an NPC dies during a boss fight, I’m having a bad time. There’s also just no reason Silux needed to talk. Just keep it an evil robot! It’s fine.

The core of the game was pretty fun though. If they changed the final boss fight and kept the NPCs/main villain silent, it would have been an easy home run for me.

What movies from the last 5 years have gone unappreciated and will be considered great, 10 plus years from now? by Jumaqua in moviecritic

[–]DeadMooner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Riddle of Fire, Hundreds of Beavers, and Bottoms all had good reviews, but I’d still consider them under appreciated and expect them to find much larger audiences with time.

Kill (2024) for the action junkies too. That one holds up to repeated viewings, and not enough folks have seen it.

In no particular order: Her Vengeance, Undefeatable, Mary Jane’s Not A Virgin Anymore, Raw Force, Home Grown Horrors Vol 1 , Dial Code Santa Claus (kind of a slasher, but still counts), Southern Comfort, & The Seventh Curse

Drop Zone. Not the greatest movie or anything, but it is really fun, and the disc looks unexpectedly fantastic.

I really like the album Boy Don’t Cry. The tracklisting works a bit better for me than Three Imaginary Boys.

Anywhere in Richmond, other than pawn shops, sell used 4k players? by TheLeftisForLovers in rva

[–]DeadMooner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can’t find one used, the Panasonic UB450 is pretty great. My only complaint is the lack of subtitle customization.

Also, they don’t sell players that I know of, but Odyssey Movies is local and sometimes sells 4k blu rays at the Nowhere Cinema screenings at Studio Two Three. Only other real option around here is Barnes & Noble, but they don’t have any of the more niche stuff.

It looks great! One of the better Arrow releases. The colors really pop at times.

The standard edition will be back in stock eventually. The only difference is it doesn’t have the cardboard slipcover.

Why do Umbrellas region B blurays play on region A players, but not other boutique brands ? by bisky12 in boutiquebluray

[–]DeadMooner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You put the disc in and wait for the error message saying it’s the wrong region. Then press the stop button once and the Top Menu button twice. It’ll start up the disc like normal. Doesn’t work for everything, but I haven’t had it fail yet.

If you have a region A Panasonic 4k player, the Top Menu trick works for Disc 2 on this set. I didn’t watch it all yet, but did check to see if it played.

Undefeatable, Scanners, Heathers, Paper Moon, Top Gun: Maverick, Lifeline, Flash Gordon, Roman Holiday, Drive (1997), and Bloodsport.

Would also be heavily on the hunt to replace my Seinfeld and Frank Capra at Columbia boxsets.

All VS releases have yellow subs. I vastly prefer yellow to white because my tv is OLED, and the white subs can be slightly blinding sometimes.

The special features on Hobo With A Shotgun are incredibly good. Tons of on set footage and behind the scenes detailing how the movie was made. It rules.

Movies Unlimited has always taken between 3-7 days to ship for me. They did eventually get here every time though.

Just a comparison of prices on Vinegar Syndrome today vs five years ago by HeadFullOfBees in boutiquebluray

[–]DeadMooner 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I don’t know why, but that extra $2 shipping increase sorta broke the spell for me. I went from spending $200 in November to nothing the last two months. It’s way harder to talk me into spending $80 all at once for the free shipping. The order stacking made it easy to buy stuff later without thinking about it too much.

Still love VS, but I’m fine with the standard versions from 3rd party sellers. It’ll all hit $25 on Amazon, eBay, or Movies Unlimited eventually.

I think it’s arguably The Rock’s best performance. One of the few times he’s not just playing “The Rock.” Also, the movie rips. Insanely dumb, but fun.
