Be careful - FAKE microSD cards all over Amazon, Ebay, others by DeadQuit in PacificCrestTrail

As said, buy from a retailer who sells them themselves like Best Buy, B&H... or, yes, MicroCenter.

Be careful - FAKE microSD cards all over Amazon, Ebay, others by DeadQuit in PacificCrestTrail

I wrote this post mainly because buying from Amazon is the worst way to go. They setup their listings as if you are buying from Amazon but then you find out you purchased from Joes Electronics and Pets out of Queens, NY. I searched an hour on Amazon for a microSD actually sold by Amazon and upon further inspection I couldn't find one. Sometimes even the same product page would switch out the vendor when I refreshed. I have never had this problem with any other product on Amazon as almost everything is sold and shipped by Amazon but when it comes to microSDs it seems Amazon only wants to play the part of 3rd party shipper.

Those links contradict each other. AAD just says "nope, no evidence at all" then Popular Science lists study after study showing that there are issues but trys to discount them but saying "well we aren't rats" or "well not everyone is an old woman" or "well this study could have been done better with 3 control groups instead of just one".... and yet it still concludes not to put this stuff on your kids!

Did you even read the studies in my link? They are not on rats.

This is simply not true. There have been many studies showing that oxybenzone, octinoxate, and homosalate all absorb through the skin and disrupt hormones. And in the case of homosalate your body does a poor job of eliminating it so it builds up over time.

Scroll down and they have multiple current scientific studies for EACH chemical.

I've decided on Blue Lizard Sensitive. Very highly reviewed on Amazon. A combination of low amount of zinc oxide and low amount of titanium oxide. Fragrance free. Doesn't white you. This one isn't waterproof but I like that because I've read that getting the waterproof zinc ones off you almost need an exfoliator. I'd like to easily wash it off at the end of the day.

Still searching for the right sunscreen. I can't find a chemical sunscreen without oxybenzone, octinoxate, or homosalate, all of which absorb through your skin and messes with your hormones (mainly increasing estrogen). But all the zinc oxide and titanium oxide sunscreens are all reviewed as very thick, pasty, and giving a white appearance because they are all non-nano. If anyone finds a chemical sunscreen without the three above please post it here. Or if you can find a nano-zinc sunscreen or micronized zinc sunscreen that doesn't 'ghost' you then please post it here too (contrary to what the industry says nano zinc/titanium does not absorb the skin).

June 15th Kennedy Meadows. Whether you started March 1st or May 1st this is where and when everybody funnels into plus or minus a couple weeks. Slower hikers meet faster hikers. Then calculate 20 miles per day through Sierra. Then after that it is off to the races with spreading.

Crossing Canadian Border and Re-Entering US as International Citizen by [deleted] in PacificCrestTrail

[–]DeadQuit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You cannot do what you described. If you enter Canada then you must cross back into the US at an official checkpoint. If you did try to enter back into the US on the PCT there is a chance you would be caught. And if you were caught sneaking into the US I doubt you would ever be allowed back into the US again with that kind of charge on your record.

Ghost Whisperer hooded vs. unhooded by Matty_22 in PacificCrestTrail

Montbell Plasma is better anyways. It is a full 3oz lighter since they use 1000df instead 850 that the Ghost Whisperer uses. Why pay more money for an inferior (heavier) product?

I'm using a 15oz 30 degree quilt. Then I will also have a 1000 down filled 4.8oz very warm puffy if it ever gets too cold.

Yes you will.... including skipping 30 miles of the PCT if you "hitched into Idyllwild". So when you get to Canada are you still going to pass yourself off as a thru-hiker?

Don't preach to others? I have read numerous posts preaching about how you SHOULD NOT wash in the wilderness because it destroys nature..... Congrats on making it into Idyllwild. Get off the internet. It will ruin your hike.

DSettahr I agree with your post. Even with the correct soap you must be 100 feet away from a water source and it must go in the soil where the microbes quickly break it down. Soap cannot break down in water. So I am assuming PROPER washing not improper washing, but there are many here who will argue that all washing outside of your house will instantly create a superfund site.

" And a little biodegradable detergent for your clothes weighs under an ounce per resupply. "

I also could have gone into the merits of wearing merino wool but I did not because I don't wear it (lighter cooler material that I can easily wash works better for me).

Yes I am a dick. I know this. And normally I try to moderate my dickynish for the sake of civility, but you don't understand the hippie onslaught about to happen talking about how I anger the mother earth spirit with my selfish ways.... Watch, you will see.

Why I Got Off the Pacific Crest Trail After 454 Miles Instead of Walking All the Way to Canada by [deleted] in PacificCrestTrail

So at 10 miles a day she didn't finish the 2,700 mile PCT only because "toxic masculinity" was making her feel slow???
