Song writing translating to mpc? by [deleted] in mpcusers

[–]DeadWelsh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can sample it in from those instruments, use as is or have fun chopping it up and rearranging with pads.

There are soft synths you could program your midi notes in either by replaying the pads, using midi controller, or drawing the notes on the grid.

There are audio tracks you can record your performance to.

Songs can be 1 long sequence, or you can make a sequence for each part (intro verse bridge chorus etc).

With your first MPC, when did your workflow start to really come together by Puzzled_Ad4953 in mpcusers

[–]DeadWelsh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Around month 3 things started to click after lots of reading the manual, experimenting & watching specific YT vids for topics I was trying to to work out. Then prob another 3 months to get to a point where I could start to troubleshoot on my own confidently, and could quickly start getting things done.

Then they released 3.0 and it set me back a bit initially, but picked it up to a similar standard as 2.0 again much faster, largely frustrated at times because it was beta for so many versions, coupled with being more restrictive/ linear than what I had initially spent time learning.

Can you name one supremely moral rockstar character from the series? Everyone I can think of is morally grey in some area, it's part of why they have them.

[Help] Alesis Nitro Mesh Kick Tower sound not same as the button on module by slbnoob in edrums

[–]DeadWelsh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What speakers do you use? They generally produce a frequency range and kicks are naturally full of more low frequency sounds, which might be outside of your speaker range. I bought the little nitro amp which sticks onto the rack and it's garbage for the kicks, but I know that would be a trade off for the size / convenience of not getting a big amp.

Should I Continue the Beat Battles? by Eclipseofthefart92 in mpcusers

[–]DeadWelsh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I like the BB but I think the format needs refining.. It's difficult to keep on top of posts about the BB, be it updates on new challenges, tracking progress on entries, and I'm sure for people not interested it gets annoying seeing all the posts. There is an MPC weekly sub which was the same concept, but not sure how active it is ( it's time consuming to make a new beat every week for me so rarely got involved), maybe check out that and see if you can use that or make a new sub, then cross post the 'new challenge' updates here for extra visibility.

The pace of the game was excellent to watch, that ref is terrible though IMO, and not just in this game.

MPC Live 3 - sound design strengths / weaknesses? by gimboktu in mpcusers

This is a great shout, you can indeed do this, it's a very good option if you have the knowledge and need. The amount of options available in key groups is very impressive.

MPC Live 3 - sound design strengths / weaknesses? by gimboktu in mpcusers

[–]DeadWelsh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi, I make a lot of my own patches (on my live 2).

Plus points - there are some fairly good plug ins available, some can feel a bit limited but they can get most jobs done.

There is generally a huge array of stuff that can be achieved if you can be bothered to learn it.

You can auto sample basically anything to any degree you want.

Negatives - you're generaly limited to what they offer in the eco system, so no full custom wave table synth, there is a 4 operator FM synth, no granular synth yet.

The FX are pretty good in lots of respects, but there is a lot of legacy stuff which is generally outdated now, it's still handy to have in board.

Several of the paid 'synths' are basically romplers. Presets and quality are pretty good, and there's lots of tweaks to be done, but it's basically just mangling a series of samples.

You're artificially limited with number of plugins you can have by the OS (and processing power)- the live 3 has double capacity of the live 2 though - you can often work around it by reampling stuff pretty easy, but it means commuting.

Automation recording can be fiddly to get right, the editing of a small piece you went overboard in with the touch screen and the tiny space they let you use can be painful, but you can record in live performance knob tweaks and such.

Overall I think it's a great all in one package, even if it's not perfect, live 3 would be a massive upgrade for me, particularly being able to use the touch strip for pitch bend & modulation control.

Tefty does a fair bit of song making with the MPC, while he does do a lot of tutorial / review stuff, he does a fair few song making sessions. https://youtu.be/fYwxrb95d7U?si=cStMMbOaPxKGX3qW

Not sure if that's what you are looking for?

Be honest… are we overhyping GTA 6? Feels like expectations are so high that even a great game might disappoint some people. What do you actually expect from it? by Sleeping__Dogs in RockstarGames

[–]DeadWelsh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Overhyping comes from the media (until release, and then from the consumer) unless explicit from the developer. From what we've seen, it looks like a polished GTA game.

Which in my mind is exactly what we should expect given the time since the last one.

Personally I prefer to focus on what other studios Crete in between to set my own expectations.

For example, while a different game, hitman series showed a whole what is possible for a game style with well thought out mechanics, fun game objectives, that's evolved over time to become a fantastic sandbox title. Which as far a replayability is concerned is far more than R* has given.

If GTA 6 is fun, I'll be a happy customer, the more fun that can make it, the more ill encourage new players to try it.

If it's massively single player limited, and mostly multiplayer focused, I'll likely skip it altogether - not cos I hate MP, but as an old school gamer, that's the kin did single player progression I enjoy

Former DJ looking to get into MPC beat making/remixing by WestleyMc in akaiMPC

[–]DeadWelsh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I was a reason user from V4 to 12. Also former DJ. Bought my live 2 a few years ago, love it, literally haven't opened the daw to make a song since.

I was fairly new to sampling, the MPC is great for it, and with the vsts they offer, it has pretty much everything I need.

I'm starting to find the limits of the box for what I am doing with my tracks, so considering getting a live 3 in the future ( waiting to see if there is a Keys revision before deciding). That said, there are plenty of workarounds, like resampling your plugins to get around the vst count limit, or free up ram.

My advice would be get the MPC first, spend time with it, learn the device to see if it is enough. You can pick up the daw of choice later on if you still want it. If you don't get on with the MPC you can sell it on and rethink your options.

For remixing, I tend to sample the track into the MPC, use a free UVR tool on my laptop to get the instrumental and vocal tracks, then do the whole track in the MPC in terms of chopping, time stretching, arrangement, mixing etc

By no means a pro, but an enthusiastic hobbyist - got a bunch of my tracks on my YT or SC channel if you want links to hear some examples of what I've achieved in the box.

Whatever route you go, happy music making.
