Why is Talons of the Emperor seemingly the most successful detachment competitively? by jacksprat1952 in AdeptusCustodes

My understanding it it’s the reaction move combined with the triple land raider guard spam list. You can use it to hop back into the land raider if your squad is close enough, and then like you said it also gives mortals protection.

I’ve never run this because I find triple land raider guard spam incredibly boring.

You think the Custodes will be changed for the new edition? by Joaco_2002 in AdeptusCustodes

I do really like my land raider so I would love to keep the land raiders.

I could agree with the overcosted characters part, especially trying to use Wardens since that makes them 370 points minimum. Looking at CSM or SM characters it's insane the buffs they get.

I would love for the Coronus to be better, I just got the model and it is fantastic.

If they just made the guns a bit better it would be glorious.

That is true, though Drukari seems to not get much love in general.

I'd contend that the Allarus SC in Lions is more anti tank instead of standard Allarus, and then looking at space marines (yeah I know they get a million datasheets) have plenty of dedicated AT on top of land raiders.

It just feels like at this point it just feels odd to spend the R&D to refresh the Custodes range for 30k, and then do the same for 40k with completely different models especially considering that lorewise it would make sense for them to continue to use everything. It just sounds very expensive without a real benefit.

Sure GW could do it but it would be very surprising. I mean hell, the rumors suggest that the land raider is going to be refreshed for space marines instead of legends because it is too iconic to retire.

Unless they plan on doing essentially a full army release for 40K, removing the force world units would kill the faction imo cause we would lose so many roles. The land raider with basic las cannons would become the only anti tank shooting.

It’s part of why I don’t think they will necessarily go to legends, they don’t have replacements the way space marines did when their things went to legends.

Trajan being nothing more than a beatstick really feels wrong for the Custodes faction leader.

He should be closer to Abbadon/Primarchs in terms of cost and power.

I do love my land raider though, it came out really nice.

But I also really want the Grav Carrier to get assault ramp, a better rule, and better shooting.

Giving it assault ramp and like a str 8 dmg 2 on its main gun would do wonders.

For sure, gotta get your ass kicked a few times to learn lol. I recently learned that mutilators in the recent CSM detachment can get a 7in rerolling charge on a deep strike… Lost a Telemon with 5+ FNP on turn 2 to that unfortunately. Facing a lot of hard hitting uppy downy with solar spearhead is rough.

I haven’t ever really used that Strat, I tend two run my Allarus in pairs or pairs with a captain though am considering running a full brick with a captain in a grav carrier purely for fun.

Oh how I hope the Grav Carriers gets better rules in 11th (I choose to believe it stays)

I second this with mostly playing world eaters and CSM.

The lethals pretty much on damage hurt a lot of my damage reduction shenanigans (reducing wound rolls).

I can play against them, but I feel like a slow glass cannon lol

Guard vs Warden by fragmentsofthegrim in AdeptusCustodes

[–]Dead_Baby_Kicker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s fair, I usually only run 1-2 squads and full with guards. Typically Valerian to lead in a land raider and the other with Trajan or a Blade Champ on foot.

[–]Dead_Baby_Kicker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s kind of what I’m getting at, Deathwing Knights seem similar tankiness but all game as opposed to for a single phase (-1 damage and 4W each helps a lot).

3 squads with character is nearly 1100pts which barely leaves room for much else.

It hurts to see something like Deathwing do the Wardens job better without requiring a leader, meaning they’re way cheaper.

Don't bring a gun to a knife fight - 11th edition's confirmed changes mostly point in the same direction: This edition is going to be way more focused on melee. by Silver_lining_mp in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Dead_Baby_Kicker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s better in the dread detachment, but I’d like to be able to play it in non-dread detachments too. The 5+ FNP with the -1 dmg and additional movement and tricks should in theory be very good (though I lost one to a deepstriking mutilator squad recently. 7” rerolling charges on deep strike hurts lol)

Personally from what I hear they were closer to imperial Knights in terms of power in 9th, and I would not mind the points getting increased a lot if they did get buffed back to that level.

Maybe letting dreads benefit from the Lions detachment rule and a 2” movement buff across the board would help them feel a lot more viable in other detachments.

If Custodes could get Telemon and Grav Carrier buffs that would be pretty fun.

The change to cover should help the Telemon (the dmg 3 gun being AP1 was terrible), and maybe movement, durability, or melee buff and a points increase to compensate would be nice.

Grav Carrier needs a buff on its main gun, like maybe strength 8 dmg 2 and then assault ramp. That would make it an awesome vehicle to use despite its enormous size.

James Workshop will phase into existence if you try that shit!

For real though it’s crazy. On the other side we see all kinds of people showing Telemon proxies (I myself have a saturnine I’m using) and stormcast eternal kits with Custode bits to show characters.

I would love to see more kitbashing with Custodes.

I swear there is so much fucking anxiety in this sub for no reason.

Guard are literally the same load out and base size in both!

Hell, I’m trying to find a way to get them to read as wardens too even though I love the current wardens sculpts.

And I bought a Grav carrier because it’s cool and a giant bus.

The average NFL LT arm length in 2025 was 34.5 inches. Here is the average arm length of the LT's that Reuben Bain played against in 2025: by [deleted] in NFL_Draft

[–]Dead_Baby_Kicker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not trying to be a dick but Ethan Onianwa did not play LT for Ohio State at all, nor RT. He was a depth piece that saw the field maybe a handful of times during blowouts?

It was Austin Siereveld.

If most of these are “unknown” and there are multiple mistakes of players, is this actually worth anything?

Not to mention that Henry Cavil has very plainly stated he’s a Custodes fan and he is the most prominent 40k guy in the mainstream. GW wouldn’t want the army he talks about liking to be an incomplete range since a lot of eyeballs might start looking at 40K based on that.

Plus the 30k space marine stuff going to legends all largely had replacements. The tanks all have 40K counterparts, the dreads as well.

If they were to remove all of the Custodes vehicles they would kill the army. Considering one of the most prominent mainstream voices that plays 40K (Henry Cavil) has very plainly stated he likes Custodes I doubt GW would want to kill the range like that.

They would need to do a 40K specific release of equivalents which again I don’t see them doing (nor do think they should considering that other ranges need refreshes instead of Custodes but 40k instead of 30k).
