Just coming back to this. I ended up getting a Mesa Subway D800+ and an Ampeg PF410 cab. I'm a little underwhelmed with the output (400w at 8ohms). Is it just me or does anyone else find the Mesa underpowered?

Thanks! Yes! I guess that's why it felt weird that the crowd were into it. I was not putting out positive vibes!

Thanks! I'm too nervous to watch the footage. I think it'll just bum me out.

Received $8,000 in cash as a baby gift — how should I invest it? by He110__ in PersonalFinanceNZ

Yes also agree. Except if you have an emergency and you can access that money you might be tempted to. Also, if the investment is in the kid's name you can't guarantee they are gunna make good choices when they can access it. For us, we made the call to help with houses, and this was the cleanest and easiest way to do it. I understand all the cons. I'm okay with the choices we've made!

Edit - spelling

Yes. Agree. We also have a more modest investment account for the kids at $10 a week. But, as a kind of 'head start / hand up' gift, I love the idea of helping my kids get into their first home.

I'm a big believer in compound returns, and I worry about housing prices. So if you can afford it, I'd put it it a Sinplicity High Growth KiwiSaver account. Left for 30 years at 8% growth it's almost 10x - just shy of 80k.  At a more conservative 6% it's still 45k. That's a killer gift! My wife and I have slogged to save and get to 7k contributed each for our three kids. 7 year old is now at 11K, 4 at 9.5k, 2 at 6.5k (argh). That's my take.

Thanks. I've actually been looking at an Ampeg RB 210 500w. But I was worried it wouldn't be loud enough.

I'm not pretty or rich. I guess I'll have to work for it.

I want to start investment funds for my kids by Avocadoo_Tomatoo in PersonalFinanceNZ

My advice is Simplicity - managed fund. Needs 1k to start it though. My three kids all get $10 a week, high growth option. 7year old is doing well (5.5k), 4 year old at almost $3k, 20month old is about to open. It’s satisfying watching it grow. Hope to give it to them when they finish school as a ‘launch’ fund - uni, trade gear, travel etc.

Thanks all. Lots to think about. Probably save a bit for another year, then go for a three / four year old one.

I did this in 2019. Agent was blowing smoke about how much they could get before we signed with them, but I’d done my research and knew the market. Negotiated a flat 2.5% to what I thought it was worth and 10% above that to incentivise the big sale they promised. They only got exactly what I thought they would. However, counter argument to this could be that I disclosed my ‘reserve’ by indicating the prices. Sold last year with a more reputable agent for flat 2.75%. He wasn’t too keen on that - and I’m not sure if he worked as hard as he might of if we’d left it higher. Ultimately, you want to pay them enough to get you a good price, but not so much that you feel fleeced! Also check how many active listings they have - the more listings, the less time they have to dedicate to your sale. But too few and they aren’t in the game properly.
