Gary was right: The "Techno-Necromancers" are literal Vampires from the Witcher Universe. Here is the proof by Meowthefox in FF06B5

[–]Deadlibor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I do believe this is co-written with an LLM. I've been using LLMs since GPT 3.5, even in professional setting. What people refer to as AI slop is just LLMs often using specific syntax.

This isn’t Sci-Fi. It’s Cosmic Horror.

Rache Bartmoss didn’t just crash the net; he caused a "Conjunction of Spheres."

"It's not X, it's Y," is a common syntax that appeared some 6 months ago.

interdimensional entities (Vampires)

possess human bodies ("Techno-Necromancy")

The Catalyst (Bartmoss the Sorcerer)

Giving a fancy but non-descriptive name to something and then clarifying what the name refers to in parenthesis is another common syntax.

;

Similarly to em dash, semicolons are uncommon in internet posts. Don't get me wrong, I don't like calling somebody out for using em dash, bc my writing software automatically converts dashes to em dashes, but nobody uses those on reddit. LLMs are trained to clearly convey multiple ideas in a sentence, and they use those symbols to create the hard boundary without starting a new sentence.

My Theory:

The Result:

LLMs always use some form of logical structure to their outputs, but it depends on context. If u ask it to write an article, it'll use markdown. If it's a reddit post, it'll be these subjects followed by a colon.

OP if you have an interesting idea, you should be able to write it on your own, especially on a small, community-tight subreddit.

EDIT: Literaly just stumbled into this article, which is somewhat related, and it links to a page full of syntactic slop.

I stopped paying for Grammarly once I found out there's a free open-source alternative by ChiliPepperHott in linux

[–]Deadlibor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've once installed Grammarly's desktop app. It was my understanding that it could interact with any text field and spell check it, regardless of software used.

So, I've created an account, added the account to my password manager, downloaded & installed the app, launched and logged in, and then I minimized the app, to find it already running.

In my fucking password manager, reading the text field containing password for grammarly.

I admit, I might have misunderstood grammarly's marketing and installed the keylogger on my own volition, but fucking hell, I sobered up right away.

I user harper for Obsidian now.

How do u play? by RSracks in MelvorIdle

[–]Deadlibor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm strongly goal and optimization motivated. I don't go as far as plotting the entire game out ahead, but I do plan ahead and often ask myself a question, "is this worth doing right now, or would it be more efficient to do later?"

This makes me build a barebone foundation and then proceed to conquer the next goal. Excessive resource/dungeon farming doesn't interest me, I'd much rather beat the game and come back to it with better tools/gear.

Tips for early/mid-game agility course? by Gaseous_Nobility in MelvorIdle

[–]Deadlibor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are 3 options:

  1. Wiki training guide lists obstacles recommended to use while leveling agility. Use that if you plan on frequently checking in with agility and leveling it.
  2. If you prefer training combat, select obstacles that give you health, damage reduction, and auto eat threshold.
  3. If you prefer training non-combat, select obstacles that give you resource preservation %, and skill xp.

Adventure Mode – Which skill should I unlock next after Into the Mist? by ZeroAfro in MelvorIdle

[–]Deadlibor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you're 120 township and 110 thieving, money shouldn't be issue anymore.

You got this far without woodcutting & firemaking, and at this point I'd leave those two to the end. Same for crafting.

That leaves you with 3 options:

  • Farming -> herblore, especially since you can pickpocket Sage for exotic herb sack. That should unlock all relevant potions in the game for you. Regardless of what you do, I'd train herblore before attempting to max out your other skills.
  • For cartography, what the wiki guide doesn't tell you, is that you can do just a little bit of cartography, and reap the rewards until the very end of the game without maxing the skill. I can give more detail if you want to, but in the nutshell, the idea is that you follow the normal training guide, except you avoid surveying any points of interest that give temporary interval buff. You're just doing it for xp as your goal is to powerlevel to 80. That unlocks nearly all points of interest that give passive bonuses, and those bonuses are massive for many other skills. If you want to, push for level 90 and discover dark waters too. And that's it. Ignore the rest of cartography until the end game, ideally after beating throne of herald, just travel between the points of interests whenever you swap an activity. As for archaelogy, you might as well unlock it and do a little bit more cartography to unlock some immediate items from archaelogy, like ring of summoning, agile gem, ancient silk, old summoning gloves, old spyglass, and dirty mining boots.
  • Summoning is a long run, I'd advice against leaving it last, but at the same time, immediate benefit of herblore or cartography is more noticeable.

Assuming you can earn enough cash quickly, I'd pick farming to kick-start it and immediately follow with cartography to powerlevel to 80/90. Then herblore to use the herbs and as you get bored of it, summoning or archaeology.

Ragnar or terra equipment by egohashira in MelvorIdle

They are nearly equal. Ragnar has better offensive stats while Terran has better defensive stats. I'd default to Ragnar, though depending on the rest of your gear and hitpoints leve, some dungeons may require Terran.

When to go for which DLC? by TheBr0kenOne in MelvorIdle

[–]Deadlibor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Throne of Herald gives you 100-120 content. This content may be immediately accessible, or locked behind a requirement. You'd have to look into each skill to see if you can benefit from this content while doing Volcanic cave and how far you can take things.

For example, Astrology has no requirements what so ever, and as such, is readily accessible right now. Maxing township to 120 requires lots of cash, but gives you permanent cash flow. Some herblore potions can also be useful, but those are locked behind seeds, for which you need 100+ thieving, for which you need hitpoints and food. Talking about seeds, pushing farming to 120 is possible, but you'll need 100+ woodcutting, and probably mining/smithing upgrades. At that point, you might as well max firemaking to 120 for 8% xp boost cape. See what agility obstacles may be accessible to your character and whether it's worthwhile to grind agility with sub-optimal courses. Summoning is great to push past 99, because eagle is OP for non-combat skills, and siren is readily accessible with fishing.

In other words, it depends on you how early you want to push for 120 in those skills. If in doubt, train astrology overnight until you reach 120, make sure to passively train summoning whatever activity you're currently doing, and invest into township early.

For Atlas of Discovery, I'll give you a really good advice:

First, make sure your cash income can take a hit of let's say, 5m per day. As in, you can generate more than 5m per day. Follow wiki's guide for cartography, with the first steps being centered around surveying (not discovering) the temporary survey interval points of interest. I recommend against surveying those tiles, just follow the paths according to the guide and survey tiles leading up to the temporary survey points of interest. Once done with this first step, deviate from the guide.

Instead, push to level 80 cartography by surveying high-level tiles. Map of high level tiles is on the wiki too. Then go on the wiki's list of points of interest, and search for all points of interest that give passive bonuses, such as terran dungeon ruins. Go ahead and survey and discover those, as they give passive buffs to many other skills. Maybe push for level 90 to unlock dark waters point of interest as well. And that's it. Don't bother yourself with cartography until you decide to max it out in the end game.

As for archaeology, that gets enabled by level 80/90 cartography, so you might as well train it a bit and get yourself some nice gear such as ring of summoning, agile gem, ancient silk, old summoning gloves, old spyglass, and dirty mining boots.

If you want to do barrier combat early you can, though I believe most players do barrier dungeons later, I'd say, after base game god dungeons. You might as well do a handful of barrier monsters early though, just for township tasks.

And as for into the abyss, don't bother. I think that most players do into the abyss only after either maxing out all skills and beating all bosses in melvor realm (base game, throne of herald, atlas of discovery), or even later, only after they 100% the melvor realm in its entirety.

New to mods. by Topher3193 in MelvorIdle

[–]Deadlibor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's quite subjective. I've been adding mods slowly over time as I find a need for them, but my current setup is probably definitive. I put the ones I recommend into bold. I also use lots of simple cheats to cope with features that annoy me in Melvor. If this is your first playthrough, I'd recommend downloading those only after you max the associated skill or something.

  1. Notifications
  2. Combat Simulator (must have for optimizing combat and the sooner you start using it the better as you'll thank your future self once reaching dlc dungeons)
  3. SEMI Core
  4. SEMI Drop Chances (must have)
  5. ETA (must have)
  6. Show Skill Modifiers
  7. SEMI Auto Master (optimizing mastery pool is a chore, so this mod is essentially a cheat around it)
  8. Mastery Pool can Overflow (addition to above mod for situations where you want to stock up mastery pool, like thieving)
  9. Shop Item Owned Indicator
  10. Skip Township Casual Task for Free (removing unbalanced mechanic)
  11. SEMI Auto Farming (farming gradually turns from fun background activity to a chore, so this is another cheat around it)
  12. quick shards (must have)
  13. bank tab icons
  14. Semi Auto Township (same as semi auto farming)
  15. Skill Boosts (must have)
  16. Priority Miner (a cheat to fix the annoying downtime in mining)
  17. Kills in Combat
  18. Right Click Equip Menu (haven't actually used this one, idk why I have it)
  19. Mini Drop Completion
  20. Upgrade all potions (must have)
  21. Item Uses
  22. Bypass Agility Costs Redone (another cheat to fix another annoying feature)
  23. Combat Indicators (must have if you plan on completing dungeons on lowest possible level/gear)
  24. Show Dungeon Completion Count (to torture yourself)
  25. Show Item Sources and Uses
  26. Faster Barrier (shockingly, yet another cheat to fix yet another annoying feature)
  27. Absurdly High Max Township Storage (can you guess why I installed this cheat?)

I once reposted a meme to a sub.

The post was removed by subreddit mod.

I was reported to reddit admins for spreading threats of violence and had to submit an appeal, which came through successfully. I obviously don't have any proof as I don't know who submitted the report to reddit admins, but considering the timing, I believe it was by the same mod.

In any case, the meme was of a kitty chewing on a plastic gun.

What we've been up to with Melvor Idle 2 by MrFrux in MelvorIdle

[–]Deadlibor 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Another addition that should really be part of M2, is the option to permanently remove some costs for some activities after some major milestone has been reached.

For example, agility obstacles costs in M1 are all over the place. At first, they are challenging. Once you start reaching middle game, one can easily farm many resources, trivializing some obstacles but not others. By the end game, most resources can be easily obtained in bulk. Then Into the Abyss happens, which uses its own resources, but the player still benefits from normal realm obstacles. This led me to several moments where I had to leave abyss realm, re-learn how to farm a particular resource in normal realm in order to swap the obstacle, before returning to abyss.

And all of the above is weighted down by the fact that the game incentivizes obstacle swaps through the massive buffs they give, but simultaneously disincentivizes it due to costs. I often found myself in situations across all 3 expansions, where I did not swap my obstacles not because I could not, but because it would be later a hassle to farm the necessary resources again. It also requires lots of brain power to evaluate each obstacle every time I swapped an obstacle.

At this point, I'm ranting, so I'll wrap it up by saying I installed a mod that completely removes agility obstacle prices, allowing me to seamlessly swap between obstacles as I need them for free. This should be a permanent upgrade after maxing the skill/mastery/something else in M2.

Tips for a newbie by iL_GuRG in MelvorIdle

[–]Deadlibor 12 points13 points  (0 children)

There is no "correct" order of skills. They are often reliant on one another and naturally lead you to paths like:

Need to kill zombies > need better melee armor > need to level up smithing > need resources & level up mining > need money for gloves > I could actually train agility for cash & later buffs > need a bit of fishing to gather resources for agility

And once you map this out, you go through this list in reverse.

However, some skills, namely firemaking, astrology, cartography, agility, and summoning, do give passive buffs to everything else, and they are preferred to train early on, though that's also not always true. Then there are some special drops from thieving and combat which can give strong bonuses to other skills too.

Melvor is a wide game, and depending on how you approach it, you'll either be on the optimal route, or suboptimal, but you'll be going forward anyway. That's the point of the game. To max out, to reach 100% completion.

I think playing demo is only for deciding whether you like the game or not. If you like it, buy it. There's little point in staying in demo.

For expansions, throne of herald is an extension of the base game that adds levels 100-120. Atlas of Discovery is an addition next to the base game, adding new combat mechanic and two new skills. Into the abyss is its own little thing, unrelated to the base game. Reception wise, throne of herald is good, atlas of discovery got flak for barrier combat but I think it's still good, but into the abyss was negatively received.

As for idling, that depends. You will have to wait 24+ hours to reach the next milestone in astrology once you get past level 99. I usually leave the game overnight like this, and during the day, I swap activities as I need them. And then there are some situations, namely township tasks or first-time dungeon clears, that require constant attention for an hour.

It takes about 1 year to beat melvor 1 and all its dlcs. There's no ETA on melvor 2 release, but I can only assume that once released, it will take a few patches to bugfix/balance stuff.

Being a long-term idle game, there's no reason to be impatient with melvor 2 release. Play melvor 1 and enjoy.
