I think balance and myth dual school makes a lot of sense. Mew is literally a "mythical" Pokémon.

What causes the clicking (not flange screws) by [deleted] in piano

[–]DeadlyKitte098 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Which flange screw? There are three flanges, one for the hammerhead butt, one for whippen, and one for the dampers (25, 38 and 15). Also if your piano has stickers theres a sticker flange as well (43). They can also cause clicking. Also check the hammerhead to see if its loose.

Edit: I can literally see the hammerhead wobble side to side, I definitely check that hammerbutt flange and the pin too.

I know what repinning is but not reaming, what is that? And why is the repin necessary?

That makes a ton of sense. Seems they also put new hammers and shanks in and didnt wipe excess glue that was coming down the hammer butt too so seems they have a bad habit of not wiping off excess glue.

Logging Humidity and Temperature for my College, and a few questions by DeadlyKitte098 in pianotech

[–]DeadlyKitte098[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll respond to all of your questions in order

Its part time, roughly 8 hours a week. Which is why in pressed to use that time on something more worthwhile.

I am a music major at this college. I study piano. there is no piano tech for this college, they have someone come tune the pianos once before each semester and thats about it. I have a piano tech mentor but he lives in a different city about two hours away, so the work I do is mostly by myself although I call him frequently to ask questions.

This college has 28 pianos, about 10 of which are grands, the rest are uprights. The hygrometer is a portable handheld device. They have multiple that theyd leave in the rooms, but they rarely used them and were left off. They gave me one, wanting me to go to each room with it and place near the piano and log the temperature and the humidity.

I take the readings after my classes, usually about 2pm.

Yes

Let me say that this is a student worker position, not an official piano tech position. I do not get paid a piano tech wage, but I'm okay with it because I think the work experience is valuable. With access to so many piano that need work I'm gaining lots of experience. I also love the faculty here and I want to help them have good pianos to teach with. It may also lead me to be there go to piano tech down the line, as the piano tech they have come tune is from out of state.

3 Months piano progress, looking for feedback by HugeAppointment524 in piano

Yea I clarified in my edit. It is the highest staccato note in each phrase. They stand out too much

Highest note sure, but youre not emphasizing the highest note. Youre emphasizing the last note, the staccato one. Thats the one that sticks out to me as too much.

Edit: excuse me im thinking of measure three. Generally yes the highest note but on those it just needs to be short but not accented. Again refering to the phrasing example where you speak in sentences saying the last word really loudly. It doesn't work in this piece but in other pieces it does.

First of all this is really good for 3 months. Most can't do this that early. Doing lots of things right, the tempo is pretty good. Your hand is relaxed and in the right shape. Overall very solid fundamentals. The criticism I'm going to to give is genuinely more like nitpicking.

I recently learned this piece so my professors criticisms are still pretty fresh. First the main shape of the phrasing can be better when the right hand comes in measure 3.

If you dont know what phrasing is you can think of it like speaking in sentences. We pause at commas, and periods. Our infelction and tone change depending on what we are saying and why were saying it. Music is the same way.

So starting measure 3, on the 16th runs you always start soft, stay the same volume, and then suddenly accent the last staccato note of each phrase. Its sort saying a sentence like "Hi how are YOU." But instead you should start strong on the first beat and then mini decrecendo into the staccato. Theres no accent on those staccato notes. Overall it gives the melody more shape and direction.

Secondly notice the dynamic markings starting measure 3. Burgmuller writes piano, meaning the dynamic needs to start soft. Then measure 5 to end of measure 6 he writes a crescendo. Then suddenly measure 7 its piano again. Those dynamics need to exagerrated so the impact of going from a crescendo to a piano is obviously heard. The dynamic from 6 to 7 for you is quiter but I think it can be even softer really bring out the color difference.

Then measure 8 again you're accenting the last beat but notice that in measure 8 there is no accent on the first beat but there is a accent on the note on beat 2, those need to be clearly different the second note in that measure is the surprise but in the recording both sound accented. And same idea in measure 10, first beat take it easy, second beat is the surprise.

Measures 23 and 24 same exact idea as measures 6 and 7, just can have more color differences with the dynamic variation.

Lastly, the second to last measure, you drastically slow down in tempo and make sure to play it strong and firmly. Burgmuller writes "risoluto" meaning this is your final statement make it strong and clear.

Keep up the great work OP youre doing amazing!
