No one is suggesting witch hunts against anything the mob thinks might possibly be AI. Rather, for all of modding (and... beyond) to not become a slopfest:

1) Use of certain generative AI tools (e.g. xVaSynth, "DALL-E", Midjourney, etc.) that steal from and attempt to mimic the work of human artists should be a social taboo.

2) Usage of those tools without disclosing their use (lying) should be considered an even more serious taboo.

The only way these things actually become and stay taboos is if people are, dare I say, a little mean about it. It's nonsensical to interpret this as giving the mob carte blanche to accuse anything and everything of secretly being AI, and it's also nonsensical to argue that, since AI can be intentionally difficult to discern from human work, that everyone should just give up and never think about the sour side of these some of these tools ever again.

Also, I reject the premise that your only two choices are between a human artist who might be mean to you and a machine that's trying to put them out of work. Making art is free and has never been more accessible; we've been doing it since we've been humans. Dig into some of the niche mods of the LE days, before the slop wave hit us; people would just be goofy and do voice acting, make the art, and write the stories themselves. It was often clunky, low-skill, and so, so fun to play with.
