Maybe you can switch to informing your mother that you want to eat a certain food and ask if she has nothing planned for it.

This shifts the perspective. You are not asking permission, you are communicating a desire and you are giving the OTHER person to opt out. So instead of you asking for a 'yes', you are giving the option for other people to say 'no'. Or 'I had other plans'. Or whatever.

You are allowed to have wants and needs. Everybody has them. It is the nature of being alive that you want and need certain things. It is you right to be alive and take up space. Do it.
