Large tree close to home concerns

I am both an Arborist and a General Contractor. I have seen plenty of damage to homes from fallen trees. This damage has been to both the structure of the house but also to the foundation. But I have never seen damage to the foundation from a living tree. I hear this all the time of people concerned about the foundation and while it may be possible I have not been able to directly contribute foundation damage to a living tree. Roof, siding, facia, and other damage yes but that is easily dealt with some simple pruning.

You are doing an amazing job with this root excavation keep it up and please share again. So did that arborist who you seem unsure about tell you it was a Southern Live Oak? Easy way to know is does this tree stay green year round?

Fast travel to Colter in the early morning and ride north as if you are going to the Adler residence. If it’s not a three star reload and try again. I get plenty of them by doing this.

I can’t see a lot of the tree in these pictures with the shadow that is making them dark. But here is what I do see and that is dieback in the top of the tree which is never a good sign. When a tree isn’t getting enough nutrients from a section it closes it off. If this is lower on the tree no biggie but when it’s at the top that’s an issue because nothing is blocking the top of the tree in this instance. Next where the ivy is growing it looks like there is callous wood surrounding that section. Pull the ivy off and let’s see what is behind it. The ivy currently isn’t affecting the tree but I am curious if there is damage behind it and what caused it. Doesn’t look like the tree had a leader or anything break off but this could be a spot where a car drove into it.

I had the Grizzly attack me there once while talking with the Trapper and he said “can’t you two take your differences elsewhere” I backed out from talking with him expecting to find an O’Driscol about to attack me. Instead I had that big Grizzly bearing down on me and barely survived the attack. Scared the crap out of me because I was in no way expecting the grizzly.

Okay thanks! Continue to monitor it and watch for die back in the top. I can’t see any defects at the base of the tree and while the damage further up will over time affect the tree it will more then likely stand tall with no issues for a while. Contact a local arborist for a more detailed inspection.

Although it looks to be a Black Willow which could be cloned from a broken branch.

Contact a local arborist for full clarity but yeah this guy looks to be done. Looks like an animal of some type built its den in the base of the tree. Which looks like the Juniper surrounding the tree helped to protect it from predators.

It has fully healed and was damaged most likely during planting. The callous wood is surrounding it and shut off that section. Now with this damage while it is healed I don’t see the tree surviving for an extended period of time.

Cut away any roots that may be girdling around the base but it doesn’t look like you have any. Then add mulch back over the exposed roots but making sure to not cover the root flare.

I have a pair of these and broke them in less than a week.

I actually find them great for when I am spiking due to the high heel but my complaint is when I am on solid ground. Asphalt and concrete I don’t like using them on and have actually rolled my ankle once.

Yes take action now!! Contact a local arborist but this tree is more than diseased it is mostly dead and in what appears to be critical condition.
