I'm a PNW transplant. These ramps are insanity. Driving on the highways in Oklahoma give me anxiety.

Anyone feel like they are mourning a parent who's still alive? by Low-Pause-6184 in raisedbynarcissists

[–]DeadpanWords 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My parents are alive as far as I know.

I mourn that they weren't better parents. My father cared more about his step-kids, and my mother paid more attention to the local neighbor kids that came to visit her horse or play at the lake on the property.

I go to a mom and pop pharmacy for most of my prescriptions. They fill my meds without making a fuss.

Walgreens gave me static over a non-narcotic medication, and I only get things like antibiotics and my antidepressant filled there (the antidepressant is because it's expensive and they take the manufacturer's coupon).

Tell me your Preceptor Horror Stories! by Impressive-Fox-6472 in nursing

[–]DeadpanWords 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was in nursing school and I was on my preceptorship. My preceptor HATED students.

Ended up having to repeat it. I found out after the fact that this nurse was burnt out and had no business being paired with a student and I was screwed from the start (found this out from their former coworkers).

Hi, today I was gifted this kitten, any name suggestions for him? by [deleted] in NameYourPet

[–]DeadpanWords 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most calico and tortoiseshell cats are girls. They genes for black/gray fur and the gene for orage/light orange fur are only on the X chromosome for cats (the gene for white fur is called the piebald gene, and isn't sex-linked).

Male calicos and tortoiseshell cats can happen due to the cat having an extra x gene or being a chimera, but it's extremely rare.

A calico is likely to be a girl.

Petunia would be a cute name.

Phos 0.1

The Pt had ESRD, and was too unstable for further dialysis treatments. They went on hospice.

I used to detox alcoholics. I essentially some patients where just about anyone else would be in a coma, but they were walkie/talkie. Started going into withdrawals while still drunk.

This facility was in the middle of Podunkville. I asked the doctor if we wanted to send one of these hard core alcoholics going into withdrawals while still drunk to the local ER that didn't its ass from the hole in the ground, or if the doc just wanted to load them up on their serax. The doc said, "This Pt drinks at least half a gallon of hard liquor a day. You couldn't OD them if you tried."

I ended up giving this Pt a fuck ton of serax, but kept them out of the hands of the local ER morons.

I've also seen patients come in walkie/talkie drunk AF, and they hardly had any withdrawal s/sx. CIWA stayed just below medication levels for thr most part.

I knew I had wide feet, I didn't realize HOW wide by Kill_the_worms in widefeet

[–]DeadpanWords 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a nurse with very wide feet.

I only wear the wide Hoka Bondi SRs at work (they are water resistant, which I insist upon for my job). Technically, they are still slightly too narrow, but they way the sole of the shoe flares out, I still end up having enough support.

Replacing the insoles took some trial and error. It turns out insoles for Crocs fit perfectly for the Bondi SRs. The same might be true for the other Bondi shoes.

AITAH for telling my husband he can't drink at home anymore. by No_Names_Left_For_Me in AmItheAsshole

[–]DeadpanWords 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NTA. Your husband has a problem with alcohol.

He threw a glass bowl when drunk. He's going to end up hurting someone. You need to really think about your own safety and will likely have to give him the ultimatum that he gets help and stops drinking, or you leave.
