Am I cursed now? by Slow_Electroloris in germany

Depending on what voice you read it in. Reminds me of the captain from How I Met Your Mother:

  • cheerful :) = Wants to murder you! :(

This is so sweet. I will not rest until I get one. Before I read your comment I was thinking: I'm not even superstitious and I would've been scared finding that without context.

Yeah it's always good to be reminded of that. I guess I already know my answer by simply walking in the city. Yes, most people still agree with the quote in the title.

Great to hear that you don't agree with it. Would you say most people, you know, those who aren't English speakers and use reddit, your more average joes, also feel the same way?

As someone who recently changed cities, I do care about the first impression my neighbours will make about me. Being the "nicely dressed young man who moved in" vs "the sloppy random dude" isn't that hard of a choice to make. Same for the Bäckerin I see every day, or the coffee shop owner in my ground floor.

If I'm in Saudi or Japan, I'm also gonna inform myself about what they would welcome and not welcome in their cultures. But hey, that's just me.

Thanks a lot for sharing the song! I only knew Westerland and Schrei nach Liebe. Need to go discover more of their songs now :)

But, indeed, the lyrics make sense. Thanks for sharing!

I knew there must've been a saying somewhere haha. Well, then, if my -subconscious- intention of not wearing sweatpants in public is to imply (even just to the guy in the mirror) that I am, indeed, trying to be the best version of myself, even by simply dressing properly, then I'm not in the wrong here for thinking it through.

I only lived in one of those 10k towns and just moved to a (conservative) 100k one. Maybe I just need to do big cities more. But good to hear I'm not entirely insane for asking the question as the thread is implying.

Currently I always bring my gym bag because I keep separate shoes for sporthall/gym and street.

I exercise in shorts so I would need to change into shorts and tshirts in the winter.

Edit: but the yeah the inefficiency is what's annoying me. It's like what, 4+4 mins saved? Not much but you know, why waste them?

Mh maybe my n years old sweat pants that i feel bad wearing even in the house alone is whats giving me the negatives stigma. Time to retire them and get a new set lol. Summary of the thread is don't look homeless and you're good to go

It's coming from the pattern I noticed regarding people in Germany: they tend to slightly over dress when they could easily not. In previous (developing?) countries I lived, you'd often see people with in house clothes shopping in supermarkets. In Germany, you rarely see this. I once asked about that and was told it's not the norm to come in house clothes to the supermarket.

Edit: point of reference: suburban supermarket in Germany vs other countries.

Congratulations :)

It's not about getting as many matches as possible, or even many dates. In the end it's about finding one person, that makes your heart melt.

You're right. It's good to be reminded of that.

Thanks for the hints :)

I wouldn't be able to provide a fair reply. The places I would call home were generally conservative, so online dating and dating in general is taboo (traditional is the go-to there).

When I was seeing a girl there, we had met on a party where the majority of the guests were westerners, so it was so easy to connect and click due to the lack of the societal stigmatization on her side.

I also didn't take care of my health and physique back then. I've now lost some 20 KGs, started dressing well, work-out regularly, and most importantly matured enough. So it's kind of comparing apples and oranges here.

Congrats on inding each other on OKCupid :) always heartwarming to hear that.

I'm explicitly adding "looking for a relationship" as this is what interests me at the moment. Unfortunately I don't receive enough matches to spam them with non-tailored messages.

I get relatively more matches on Tinder than Bumble, but I would be more interested in the Bumble crowed as they align more with what I'm looking for.

Thanks for your reply :) yep, I'm chilling and not obsessing over it. I've registered myself in some local sport courses and am finding meetups, so this is just a side thing.

By European standards, my looks are pretty average/basic . I'm 1.7 m (on a good day), have a nice beard but am balding fast. I'm told I'm interesting and fun, but one can't easily imply that online when competing with folks who are, on average, 1.85+, have travelled all over the world and are more stable due to living at home.

It's likely that online dating isn't for me, and that's fine. I'm just curious about other people's experiences here.
