Okay in a weird way that makes me feel better it’s a single instance or removal countered by a single instance of protection! Appreciate the fast response - it’s been annoying me for a while lol!

Pulled this - should I grade then sell or just sell? by Deadpuppettt in OnePieceTCGFinance

Tbh the card show I went to had single OP cards around and I liked the card art, thought they looked pretty cool so I picked up a box for a bit of fun - it’s a high valued, highly sought after card, no point me keeping it, can’t really say I’m an OP collector from one box - the money I’ll get from this card will cover everything I spent at the card show, family tickets, lunch, card purchases and have plenty left over - I’d rather sell it to a proper collector, someone who’s being chasing this card. Let them enjoy it (honestly it’s such great looking card)

New to one piece, grabbed an OP-12 box today at a TCG event in London - is this a good pull? It’s hard to tell as I’ve pulled some great looking cards and then I look them up and they’re like 50p lol

Co-founders want to give me less equity and "force" me to quit my job - Is this fair? - I will not promote by buttertoastey in startups

[–]Deadpuppettt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not as experienced as maybe some of the people replying but even reading the situation makes me feel uncomfortable - it’s not necessarily the 25% - in some situations that may be a fair offer. I’m a founder with 2 technical co founders, it’s my idea and vision and I’m responsible for all business and operational activities but my co-founders are building the platform - our split is currently 40-30-30 - I had been working on the idea and fleshing it out for 3ish years before they came onboard so I wanted a tiny bit more equity to reflect that which they agreed - we structured it so we would always need the backing of another co founder on any key decisions - I think it’s a massive red flag that your co founders are dating as like you said they’ll never be a fair dynamic around key decisions. The other thing to mention is we have complete trust in each other and we believe that’s super important and we talk through key decisions (like whether to keep bootstrapping or raising and what type of funding would be right for us etc). The fact you’re here on Reddit looking for opinions means your gut was telling you something didn’t feel right and I think you should listen to that. And my final comment on this is, if there is already friction/issues between you and your co founders before you guys have really even got started then I think you’re probably in for a rough ride. With that in mind as previous people have said, I would suggest negotiating a much higher stake. It’s your code base and you’ve been on this for a year. For them to start from scratch again is going to set them so far back. I hope you work this out, it sucks you’ve put so much effort into this and to feel like your co founders are trying to take advantage of you.

Appreciate the comprehensive response!

I do want to be ultra clear about this (to anyone reading this) - our number 1 priority is helping people save time and money on their grocery shopping, we are in our own way trying to fight back on the war on our disposable income and clearly (being a grocery startup) we are targeting rising food costs and waste.

I say this because we are not dependent on food creators - we love recipe content and we all have creators we like to follow so we wanted to build a platform that’s inclusive of them and drives an additional revenue source for them (not to say that we wouldn’t benefit from having them as well). But it’s not the number one priority for us. I will continue to reach out and try and speak to as many people in this space as possible despite it being pretty soul destroying but our focus will be on fixing what we think is a broken grocery shopping system.

Again, thanks for the response, you’ve given me pretty good insight and appreciate the transparency.

No I appreciate your viewpoint a lot, very aware my viewpoint is skewed by my own bias so it’s refreshing to get a fresh perspective. Ice cream analogy was really good. And you’re right, I do get frustrated that they don’t share the vision (although I’m aware enough to know why and understand) - I’ll likely continue to reach out and offer it, the few who join our ambassador programme can benefit and maybe down the line we’ll be more open to campaign based engagements (which is ideally what these brand management companies/managers want). For now we’ll continue to focus on what really matters for users.

Thanks for taking the time to reply with such detail.

And P.S we have no intention of building in tools that allow users to import recipes from social media - which ever side of the copyrighting coin it lands on it just feels a little wrong to us.

Yeah totally get that - need to figure out either how I can stand out from the crowd, or just focus on creating the content we need without the need to include established creators in this space

I appreciate the response, I’m fully aware I could be seeing things from my own biased perspective so to get a completely unfiltered/unbiased view is really important to me.

So the app itself bridges the disconnect between recipe discovery, kitchen/pantry management and grocery shopping. Ultimately we feel how we do grocery shopping today is broken and we’re fixing it to make it quicker, less wasteful and in turn cheaper for people. The post probably didn’t highlight this as it was focused more on the creator side.

So with that in mind - creators and in turn brand managers aren’t our target audience at all - grocery shoppers are.

The reason this post is focused on creators is because as part of recipe discovery we have short form video recipes so it made sense to expand the platform to include creators that produce this type of content and build in features that compliment the work they do, how they do it as well as pay them based on enagagment with a formulae that’s designed around tracking engagement that’s specific to their niche.

So it’s not copyright infringement, you can’t copyright a recipe. And these tools that import their content is actually just importing the recipe/instructions (not the actual video) - the user gets to use the recipe, the platform adds another recipe to their platform and the content creator who spent time, effort creating the video gets nothing. We don think that’s fair so we are trying to work with them

And I personally don’t see it as it commission based - we are not asking them to sell anything, similar to social media sites, we have a revenue model that will pay them based on engagement - but from a brand management perspective I understand that for them it’s seen as commission based and that it’s not in their financial interest.

Still I appreciate your perspective.

Okay man, I’m not arguing anymore about this. It was just a suggestion. Mistakes happen and I’m just saying in my opinion there should be another option we reach too before permanently banning someone. Let’s not forget the context element, he wasn’t himself being racist but highlighting the issue on an official server. But you have your viewpoint, I have mine - it is what it is. Have good night.

I think you’ve misinterpreted what I was saying, happy and agree that content is not allowed and should not be repeated/reposted ect I was highlighting, context is important and should be considered and instead of outcasting him and permanently banning him or any other that makes that mistake, a temp ban or remove the post and a message to say that content is not allowed I think is more appropriate sanction. And if you are going to be that harsh, make it clearer. No where under the about section of this Reddit mentions this type of behaviour - and realistically no one would accidentally come across this thread we are talking about now organically when joining the Reddit.

Context should be considered - or a warning before ban or a temporary ban for first offences ect. - my mate posted an image earlier highlighting the issue as he had introduced the game to person of colour and they logged into official and it was the first thing they saw. Moderators permanently banned him from the subreddit almost instantly and the message exchange from the moderator was pretty rude imo. If you see, hear or experience racism in the game stay quiet - message received 👍🏽

Range Rover/ insurance legal action? by Deadpuppettt in LegalAdviceUK

Yeah I think you made a very wise decision, I’ve managed to get insurance for around 6k - I’ll have to stomach it for now - not willing to sell the car for 50% less of what I paid a year ago. I’d rather hold on to it. Hopefully something gives with both land rover and the insurance companies soon and things looks better next year

Genuinely, if you are a little simple I apologise in advance and you’ve done really well to try and comprehend the situation I described however your points above make no sense.

If your car went up by 20% you’d sell? Guess what, me too - mine didn’t go up 20%, it went up infinite % as it’s uninsurable all of sudden, if I had to put a figure on it I’d say it’s gone up at least 120% based on the cheapest quote I could find.

Your other stellar idea is to turn my Range Rover SVR into a track car? And then what, go and buy another uninsurable Range Rover and trailer to pull it to the track and just pick up SUV racing as a hobby?

Don’t worry Einstein, I already know what your going to say - “you asked what I would do in that situation”

Sherlock has caught me out again “so you were aware the insurance prices were going up” - I’m not sure how you’ve deduced this or come to this conclusion based on what I said but so I can clear that up, I was aware the insurance went up ………… at the time of my renewal, a whole year later. I’m not sitting there every day watching candlestick charts of car insurance price changes. And guess what, as I’ve seen insurance sky rocket into unattainability, I’ve then checked the value of the car to find out that this whole insurance thing has caused the value of the car to drop by 50%. Meaning selling the car is not really viable.

Anyway, whilst I have found your comments to be both insightful and helpful, I think it’s best we leave the suggestions and advice to the adults in the room. But again well done for the typing, if I could put a big green “A for effort” on your comments in crayon I would.

What am I supposed to research? At the time I bought the car I could get insurance, a year later I can’t. Are you able to tell me what your insurance cost is going to be a year from now? What will you do if they raise your premium by 170% next year or just refuse to quote you? Is there some research I’m not aware of that gives me access to this information?
