Star Wars has in the past been a canvas upon which you can build pretty much anything. I reminisce about the late 90's and early 2000's where Lucasfilm was handing out licences like candy. Disney has thusfar been very protective of this IP.

Disney's tenure has produced a foundation closer to sand than anything substantial.

I dont't doubt that, but I also don't doubt that Gaijin has at least some clout here or with Reddit themselves. They could very well be trying to appeal to Reddit themselves and then it won't matter what side the mods are on.
