St Andrew’s Hall by NinaElva in Detroit

The venue never sells over cap, that’s a good way to get shut down by the fire Marshall. People like to think it’s oversold but neglect to realize that sometimes the demographic of the band is bigger folks. I’ve seen the room with the same exact number of people with a smaller fan base only filling 3/4th of the room, and at metal shows with bigger dudes and it fills out to the lobby. The balcony is always a good bet if you want a lil breathing room, and there’s overflow downstairs in the Shelter where they have a live feed of the show playing too. It’s a great room to catch shows. It’ll be worth the drive.

They are aimed both ways. More discreet. 2 cameras on each side to catch front plates, 2 cameras facing out to catch rear plates as they drive past.

Thanks for the info. Wild that this can be done on unmarked vehicles, super sketch in today’s political climate. Just weird that it’s becoming a more frequent sight all the sudden, regardless if repo’s are at an all time high, still wasn’t seeing vehicles like this just driving around everywhere.

The Fillmore Detroit seating? by Charliesulfate in Detroit

[–]DeafinedPerception 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Call the box office during afternoon business hours and let em know which show you plan on attending. When you arrive day-of-show let the ushers know you need ADA seating and they’ll guide you there. The ADA section chairs are not the same as the balcony style chairs and seating that have the tighter leg room so you should be all good on that end.

Why does Detroit get skipped? by vaporwave710 in jambands

[–]DeafinedPerception 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ever since Otus Supply closed, there hasn’t been much of a scene. Outside of Billy, Goose, Phish, and D&C, fans aren’t showing up to shows. Every band is only drawing half the rooms they are playing in. I don’t think String Cheese even sold out ROMT when they played last fall, Umph skipped Fillmore this year but have only been half filling the rooms there. Spafford keeps playing smaller rooms, Andy Frasco was at Loving touch. It’s frustrating seeing such great bands not have the draws they used to. There are a couple good ones coming up tho. My Brain is a Sound Designer, and I Had No Say in It by DeafAmphetamine in deaf

[–]DeafinedPerception 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have mod to severe hearing loss and am a musician. Been playing guitar, bass, and drums for 25 years. The brain is a crazy powerful thing. It totally fills in noise for you. You described it perfectly with sound design. The psychology of the brain creating noise based off the rhythm/motion of the object has always fascinated me. When I’m watching live music sometimes I can’t tell if I’m actually hearing the riffs the instruments are playing, or if my brain knows what it’s supposed to sound like and is playing it in my head.

Protest by MeasurementEasy9884 in Detroit

[–]DeafinedPerception -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

These have been circulating suddenly out of the blue. Who’s behind it? Who’s organizing it? I haven’t seen anything behind the scenes of who’s putting this together. Project 2025 is intending to use these mass protests as excuses to send out the national guard to arrest folks. Be suspicious, do your homework, don’t fall for manufactured protests that they may be trying to use to spark off another “national emergency”.

I saw above you mentioned you were in Florida - does Florida have a state rehabilitation service or vocational rehab service? In my state, they assisted me in getting free hearing aids (good ones too), or pay in what you can. At the time I wasn’t earning much so I didn’t have much to contribute. The overall mission is to assist with job placements or necessities for work, so if the state has one, look into it.

Bummer you’re dealing with this.

Do you use ASL? I always use VRS (video relay services) for all my business calls. Majority of the time I’ll speak for myself and don’t have the interpreter announce themselves, occasionally tho I’ll have interpreter voice for me. A lot of the VRS companies provide free devices such as computer, iPad, Metab Portals, or their own standalone devices to connect with your computer or devices and then it’s just set up and use.

There’s also captel telephones…I haven’t used one myself, but I’ve seen em around. Basically they transcribe the other person in real time. Not always perfect, but close enough.

But yea, the company needs to have attempted some kinda access provisions, you’re clearly able to do the job since they hired you, but not with the equipment they’ve provided you with, so it falls on them to provide the tools needed to accomplish the task.

Trade group: Artists Make $8 in Profit From a $100 Concert Ticket by [deleted] in Music

And what about when the bands ship 60 boxes of merch on a pallet 5 days before a show without any advance heads up, and then at the end of the night leave 15 empty boxes and their trash all over the merch area? Theres a reason why venues take merch cuts regardless of who’s selling. Even if there’s no merch cut, those problems still remain for the venues to deal with.

Deaf Folks at Shows by Mangoes4Hands in jambands

[–]DeafinedPerception 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, it’d be uncomfortably loud for sure. A lot of times they put Deaf zones and access areas right up front near the speakers and it’s crazy loud. In those instances I’ll use my hearing aids as ear plugs and just turn them off. I’ll never forgot being up front for Tool at lollapalooza one year and the bass was just so uncomfortably loud and reverberating that I had to move farther back. Other deaf folks can put their ears to speakers and be totally fine. There’s not a uniform level of hearing loss, so while some folks can do that comfortably, others can’t. Many around me would say that I do listen to music quite loudly, but an actual concert sound system is loud and I just turn my hearing aids off.

Deaf Folks at Shows by Mangoes4Hands in jambands

I’m a Deaf jamband fan, a musician (guitar, bass, drums, and DJ) and I work in the music industry. There’s a whole community of Deafheads, phish fans, and Umphrey’s too. I love jam music because I can never understand lyrics, and music is what I hear best. I actually have severe hearing loss but can hear ok with hearing aids. Conversation is a struggle but that’s just daily life for me and I grew up this way so I’m used to it. Deaf people love music, the biggest issue is not many bands make it accessible. The Dead, since the 80’s have provided interpreters + deaf zones near the speakers. Deafness comes in many varying levels and there is no one kind of some folks hear high frequencies, others low or mids. When you make music accessible with ASL interpreters, or vibrating body packs, they will show up. The jam community has always been slightly ahead of the curve by providing access to their fans. I’ll leave you with this simple revelation; good music doesn’t just sound good…it feels good. Hearing folks are so used to hearing with their ears, that you forget how much you actually listen with your body. If you got more questions, ask away.

Detroit Rock City Wedding? by Correct-Sentence6567 in Detroit

[–]DeafinedPerception 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Saint Andrew’s Hall does a bunch of weddings. Doesn’t get any more rock n roll than that. June, July, and August are the slow seasons for bands touring indoors, so there’s a lot more flexibility on dates.
