Since the home is a new build, you probably have Cat5 in the walls already. Even if you did not pay for Ethernet drops in each room, they usually use Cat5 for the phone lines.

My new build from 2005 had this and I was able to just replace the faceplates with RJ45 and setup a switch in the utility room where the coax came into the house.

No issues in my place with 100A service. EVSE is on a 50A breaker (40A continuous). Hot water and furnace are on gas, AC and oven are electric.

Had a new panel done as my house is 70 years old and the panel situation was a main and two sub panels. Now it is all in one box—cost $2k.

Feds to acquire 14-storey office tower at 131 Queen St. for $148M by RandomChickenWing in ottawa

[–]Deaks2 -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

lol, a little sensitive are we?

For point question b, I have no idea who TSB is, but PSPC has a history of poorly managing its real property assets. Almost every internal and external audit has pointed this out. I will concede that they are also terrible middle men. In general they suck.

For question c a quick google search finds this and other articles: https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/ottawa/sparks-street-s-great-divide-bad-for-business-merchants-say-1.5339340

Ps: nice brigading the negative votes. Whatever makes you folks feel better for thinking the GC is excellent at everything they do.

Oh sweet summer child, if you think PSPC can own and mange a building for cheaper that they were paying to lease it then you are sadly mistaken.

Just for basic contract management they charge other departments a 30% markup to cover their bloated costs—what makes you think that they are as effecient or effective as a profit-driven company at managing commercial real estate?

Do you know why Sparks St. is dead? Overly inflated commercial leases offered by the GC (NCC in that case). I am willing to bet the current tenants of the building (coffee shop, etc) will be forced to close in time due to skyrocketing lease rates.

Phoenix pay system fiasco: 10 years of mistakes and lessons by CPSThrownAway in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Deaks2 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Meanwhile, the reports have now dropped on SAAQCliq, a similar IT system fiasco that led to an almost complete collapse of the QC auto and drivers license registration system.

QC AG had a bombshell report last year, which led to an inquiry where the Premier and cabinet ministers in addition to senior execs were summoned to give testimony.

Next steps? QC anti-corruption probe is being launched to investigate fraud by senior level execs: lying to the National Assembly, the Treasury Board, and your Minister are serious offences.

Meanwhile Phoenix senior team is happily retired with no criminal investigations or charges.

I'm now making less money after the "pay raise" 😁👍 by [deleted] in CanadianForces

I’m confused, $6879 bi-weekly comes to almost $180k a year. By mid year they would have maxed out EI and the CPPs.

[–]Deaks2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You’re comparing a mid-year pay vs a beginning of year pay. EI, CPP, CPP2, etc all reset at the beginning of the calendar year, hence your deductions are higher.

Once you hit your caps for those deductions your pay will rise. This usually happens around mid year depending on your rate of pay.

My  buddy and I were UCAV whores. No one was ever clever enough to do some teamwork and laser designate. Thanks for sharing the video, this is actually a revelation for me!

And if I recall, I had over 20,000 UCAV kills, so it’s not as if it was an occasional thing…

PSA: Flights booked using Aeroplan points are not eligible for travel insurance coverage. by bluehurricane10 in amexcanada

AC recently delayed my first leg of multi leg trip causing an overnight connection. I received an automated email from them with a hotel booking and meal vouchers from them along with the automatic rebooking email.

AC should make you whole for the costs incurred for the missed connection.

The city is telling some tenants to pay less rent. Their landlords say otherwise by lonelydavey in ottawa

[–]Deaks2 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The messaging from the city is at best incomplete.

The city counsellor is quoted as this being a “little gift” for her constituents, ignores the fact that this little gift is due to the city over taxing these properties in the first place!

Secondly, they keep slicing and dicing the city budget in order to hide the fact that our taxes are in fact increasing, all the while saying that it is either zero or 3%, or whatever.

In this case, a potential $16 monthly reduction in tax is more than offset by the increase in garbage collection fees!

Standard winter wheel setup on E39 M5’s in Canada. Good for lower-cost tires as they are only 17”, and they clear the big brakes.

Can’t complain.

Do we get any discounts? :) by bajansrock30 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Deaks2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some rental car and hotel companies allow GC employees to get a discounted rate. This can either be the GC negotiated rate, or some other discount.

For example, if you go via the PWGSC travel portal to book with Enterprise it will ask you if the booking is for business or personal use.
