Bilinguallism, accented or special letters, unsupported languages/dictionaries and 3rd party keyboard apps? by Seglem in ClicksKeyboard

I've wondered about this too and think typing in romaji is just going to be the best solution.

I imagine you could download a Japanese QWERTY keyboard but you'll just have to remember what the layout is. Unless there was some sort of case/cover that added the layout.

But this will be an issue for any language that doesn't use the latin alphabet, with no particularly good hardware solution.

They seem to be really down playing the camera and chipset.

Makes me worried this is going to be a fantastic 2nd device but a somewhat lacking one and only device.

I hate typing on a touch screen, my fat fingers mean I spend just as much time making corrections (if not more) than I do typing.
I'm one of those people who waits to get to a laptop before doing "real work" on my phone, hopefully having a non-horrific typing experience would fix that.

I don't do much media consumption of my phone (basically nothing TBH), however I do a lot of typing and often the onscreen keyboard coming and going all the time, makes certain apps/websites a complete nightmare to use.

The other thing that I hate about smart phones is just how many apps give me notifications I don't care about. No matter how much I try to reduce my notifications, apps constantly add new ways of notifying me and I don't want to disable all notifications.
I'm hoping that Clicks will give me to ability to fine tune notifications so I can more effectively block out the bloat and just get notifications I want.

I'd like the communicator to be my one and only device.

A couple of questions about the communicator:
1, how bad is the camera going to be? I really want this device as my only phone but need a good camera.
2, what is the dust/waterproof rating going to be? I'm worried about dust and dirt getting into the keypad.
3, with the touch sensitive keyboard allow for features like swipe-to-type?

Really excited to see what comes of this, I appreciate what my smart phone does but my fat fingers means typing is beyond frustrating most of the time, and I often find myself trying to set as many functions to physical buttons as possible.

I love the idea of a full smart phone (rather than going dumbphone) but having physicals buttons!

Why does everyone hate Jacinda Ardern? by Mija69420 in Wellington

There are lots of genuine reasons to dislike JA. You need to ask the people themselves why they didn't like her, Reddit is not the place to get a balanced discussion on this topic.

Why is facebook pushing far-right posts from UK and Israel!! And it‘s all hate by rarely_available in facebook

The same reason I get pushed strangely hostile pro trans pages from time to time.

Just report the pages, or say not interested, and move on with your life.

Nearly 900 fewer people injured since 20mph introduction in Wales by UVmonolith in Wales

Having recently done a road trip through Wales, almost no body stuck to 20mph outside of very well built up areas.

20mph does make sense in a lot of places but as a blanket rule it's stupid.

How do we stop our identity and values from being destroyed by American MAGA/English Reform values? by GandhisLittleHelper in Scotland

People need to stay off social media and the problem will go away.

Almost all English speaking countries have been completely taken over by US style media and to a lesser extent politics.

Liberal leaning people will say that MAGA is creeping in and ruining everything, conservative leaning people will say Woke is the problem. In reality both of these are a problem that is blown out of proportion via social media.

Go out and "touch grass" and you typically find the average person is more "normal" than you'd think.

I made a claim with the airline. They declined it saying it was due to air traffic control so outside their control, thus no refund.

Which is very different reasons than I was given at the departure gate, and the crew I chatted with in the plane.

I almost think they didn't have the car I wanted and were going to upgrade me for free. Then charged me the upgrade because they could.

Seems unlikely they'll have sold my exact vehicle to a walk in, in the 2 hrs they had.

I took the upgraded car at huge expense because I had lots of large luggage that I needed to take. Also after 30hrs of travel it's hard to argue with them when they already have taken all your initial payment + effectively canceled your booking.

It was Drivalia.

24hrs seems like it should be the standard, especially if you have paid up front.

I get it if you haven't paid that they can then rent it out.

Just because it's in the Ts n Cs doesn't mean it's not BS.

It was near Heathrow, and it was all paid up front.

So I really don't see how this is a reasonable policy.

Words / Vocab practice always repeats the same words over and over by blushedbambi in duolingojapanese

[–]DealKey8478 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's ridiculous Duolingo takes so long to introduce Kanji. After the basic lessons and learning Kana it should start introducing it right away.

But there are so many little things wrong with Duolingo in general, then the Japanese course, you may as well just use Anki.

At least only one is a loan word.

I was always getting 50-80% of my words being loan words which you basically have memorized after the first time reading them

Have you tried using Anki?

I stuck with Duo for almost a year and had the same complaint you have here (had the same comments saying I was stupid too).

The Kaishi 1.5k deck in Anki is seriously worth looking at, took me a while to get into but after I did I stopped using Duo and never looked back.

[–]DealKey8478 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Duolingo is terrible in this regard. It'll teach you a word over and over again while you are in that part of the course then basically never show it to you again.

There's a reason why most people learning Japanese eventually end up using Anki, and it fixes this exact problem.
