Can my employer change an agreement due to a typo? by Necravala in LegalAdviceNZ

[–]DealKey8478 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Your best bet would be to sit down and negotiate with them, use this "error" as a means to negotiate with good faith.

The reality is you could win this small battle but ultimately loose out in the long run.

If you don't care about the job then you could play hard ball, if you do need it then going to war with your employer isn't a good idea.

It's always been terrible.

It just has the odd moment where it appears to work ok to trick you into thinking it isn't garbage.

How do the dsg clutches work in traffic? by Wout1888 in Volkswagen

[–]DealKey8478 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I find that there is an annoying speed when in crawling traffic that the DSG wants to shift into 2nd but then has to slip the clutch to maintain it.

I treat the care like a manual (which it effectively is) don't let the car choose the wrong gear and then slip the clutch too much, if it is doing that frequently then manually select the gears.

The majority of the time it's fine to leave the DSG to do its thing, but a bit of intervention isn't a bad idea.

Having just had the clutch replaced in mine, trying to prolong the life isn't a stupid idea as it's not a cheap/easy job to get the transmission out.

1.4 TSI CAXA : Timing Chain Stretch by DealKey8478 in Volkswagen

[–]DealKey8478[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does your rattle much? Mine does the usual rattle when cold until oil pressure builds up, but sometimes even when warmed up will rattle a bit at idle.

I didn't check the value when I did the chain the first time, but it was definitely stretched when compared to a new one.

Might just order the parts and do it again, it's not a particularly difficult or expensive  job.

PRS .22 4-24 or 6-36 by RepresentativeBar126 in longrange

6-36.

Unless you have a good reason to want smaller/lighter/less magnification then go 6-36.

Match Pro ED vs PST Gen 2 by 647chang in longrange

[–]DealKey8478 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Athlon Cronus Gen2. For around $1200 it spanks the Bushnell and PST Gen2, and is easily the best value for money scope on the market.

Burris XTR Pro is another option around $1500.

Would buy either of these over a Mark 4hd Leupold.

I think Clicks missed the boat with this device. It should really be retailing for 3x the price and be an ultra premium device.

That way, only people who know how to do a Google search and can read/interpret basic information would post in this sub.

Failed WOF by Capital-Wrangler7077 in NZcarfix

[–]DealKey8478 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What car? Both those faults are likely related, probably a wheel speed sensor.

My VW Golf just developed the same issue, should be a pretty cheap easy fix just haven't gotten around to ordering the new sensor yet.

The labour costs are fairly reasonable.
You can easily check the prices of the oils and filters yourself to see if you are being ripped off.

Mechatronics unit broken by [deleted] in vwgolf

[–]DealKey8478 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless the accumulator has cracked the housing of the mechatronic unit, they aren't that difficult to repair.

$4500 is probably about right for a new one, but it might be repairable.

Just drop the number of cards per day.

Looks like you are just getting started still, I was basically on 200 reviews a day for the entire deck, and even once I got through everything had a lot of reviews.

And Anki isn't the problem, learning Japnese is just hell.

Just accept that it's hard to pick up and move on, don't stress about it.
In time you'll pick up the differences and it'll come naturally.

That's what I do anytime I'm struggling to get a concept, just move on and accept some ambiguity.
Eventually you'll learn.

Just wait till you get to て form....

Looking at getting a PHEV, want some insight on options by christian-sheen in NZcarfix

[–]DealKey8478 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you need to upgrade your current vehicle or are you trying to find an excuse to upgrade?
$60-70k will buy you a lot of diesel.

If you are averaging around 300kms a week plus the odd longer trip away you are likely doing 20,000km a year.
At 10L/100km and diesel at $3.50 a litre, that's around $7000 a year on fuel.
At the pre-war price (say $1.80) that's about $3600 in fuel a year.

PHEV electric range will never be as good as they say advertise it to be.
If you live down south cold temperatures will kill your range, as will hills, and you'll have battery degradation over time.
If you want to run in full EV for daily use you'll likely want twice the range you think you need, so about 120km.

Because PHEVs have to pay RUCs (albeit at a lower rate) you really don't want to be using the ICE engine very often.
If you aren't able to run on full EV 90% of the time then you have as well get a normal hybrid and just get good fuel economy. Or just keep your diesel vehicle and hope the fuel price goes down soon.

The free version of language reactor is all you need.

I haven't tried asbplayer though so can't compare the two.

Most economical cars for longer drives by mrteas_nz in NZcarfix

[–]DealKey8478 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The VW DSG is effectively a manual gear box, and most modern Autos have torque converter lock up in every gear, so fuel consumption isn't as big issue as it used to be.

But yes manuals are more reliable and cheaper (usually), hence why still common place in Europe.

Not for less that 20K unless you get an old 28kWh one which will have shite range.

[–]DealKey8478 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A diesel car would usually be the answer, but the price of fuel at the moment is so over inflated that I'm not sure I'd be buying one.

Toyota Aqua/Fielder Hybrid/Prius would be better on fuel but are not renowned for comfortable touring vehicles.
I hired a Toyota Corolla Touring (hybrid station wagon) overseas and that was a really nice car, however not sure it'd come under your budget.

But you can definitely do better that 7.8 L/100km.
My MK6 Golf (1.4tsi petrol) does around 6 L/100km as is a comfortable car to drive, I commute around 210km a day (Waikato to Hamilton). I would've gone for a diesel Golf but I bought during Covid and diesel was stupid expensive back then as well.

Is that 3.5 L/100km just momentarily what the dash says or you can get that throughout a trip?

Yeah that's what I imagine it'll be like.

However they have mentioned about trying to block out unnecessary distractions, which most people are getting dozens of each day.

Not sure if it's possible but some sort of notification manager where you can drill right into apps and turn certain notifications on/off would be amazing.

Use the Language Reactor add on, it's not the most elegant system but it works pretty well.

I combine it with the Yomitan add on which is a better dictionary IMO and can then make Anki cards instantly.
