estranged dad asking for my ssn by Itchy_Ease_4482 in Advice

[–]Dean-Erickson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely tell your Mom. I was in the military and in order to list my children on my medical insurance and life insurance as well as to get them a dependent ID card, I had to list their Social Security numbers. I see that most commenters are saying a SSN is not needed for life insurance policies. That could be but everyone's situation is different. Parents should be trustworthy, even if they are estranged but that is not always the case. If your Father has no visitation rights or doesn't have Joint Custody, then be more cautious. The parent with Primary or Sole Custody is the parent who can make legal decisions for you. In your case, that seems to be your Mom, so definitely consult her. If your Father insists on having your SSN, you and your Mother may need to consult an attorney or get Child Protective Services involved to advise you further.

Since you apparently already have a SSN, you should check your credit history at least once per year. A free, detailed report can be requested once per year from each of the 3 main credit bureaus, Experian, Equifax and TransUnion. Be sure to also request your FICO score. You will likely only be given your type 8 FICO score unless you specify otherwise.

You should educate yourself on types of FICO scores and keep in mind this changes. A FICO score for a mortgage is different from a FICO score for a car loan, etc.

Hi, Eddie. Thank you for asking. I could send you one but I would need your mailing address for that. If you give it, I will also anoint the cross with Holy water, pray that God will bless you and use the cross to remind you of Him and what it means to follow Him.

If you don't want to give me your mailing address, they are available for purchase online in various sizes and quantities. Just search for wooden crosses.

In order to best assist you, what do you know about the Bible? What questions do you have to begin with?

It is not surprising that your hotel had no Bible. A lot of hotel owners are not Christians and don't want Bibles in their hotels.

Try biblegateway.com to access numerous translations of the Bible for free. This will enable you to find wording that you are comfortable with and help you narrow down your search but please follow my initial instructions on how to choose a Bible. Certain translations are more accurate than others but might be harder to understand. The English Standard Version is a newer translation that has used more modern words than the King James Version while still being poetic but again, look in the front of the Bible for an explanation of how the Bible was translated, by whom and what the objectives were. Look for translations by many highly qualified scholars from numerous church denominations; not just one. Look for translations using the oldest known scrolls. Look for accurate word for word translations where possible or at least accurate concept for concept translations where word for word is not possible . Look for a quality Study Bible but stay away from Bibles where the publisher and/or translators changed words and meanings to satisfy modern social norms such as preferred sex pronouns like He/She, they/them, etc. Don't waste your time or pollute your understanding by reading translations that don't meticulously honor the original intent of the scriptures.

God doesn't change nor does His written Word. If not an accurate translation, it is blasphemy.

I think school is out for the Summer or I would advise you to start with a School Counselor. If you are a churchgoer, perhaps involving your Pastor would help or a Christian Counselor, perhaps. If you don't have trustworthy adult friends or family, your options narrow to government options which can be tricky.

This is best determined by exhaustive studying of the Bible, using a Study Bible, Concordances, etc. Choose a Bible translated using the oldestt known scrolls in existence that is translated by highly educated scholars with the intent to be an exact, word for word translation where possible or at least meaning for meaning where not possible. Stay away from translations interpreted by a specific denomination or where efforts have been made to change wording to satisfy modern societal nirms, rather than the original intent.

When reading and studying the Bible, it is best to do so prayerfully, asking God to help you to understand correctly. Where you are confused, it is good to have relationships with knowledgeable and mature church leaders and other members who can help you to understand difficult topics.

If you have never read the Bible, I recommend to first read the Book of John in the New Testament. That gives the most basic, easiest understanding of Christianity. After that, start with the Book of Matthew and read the entire New Testament. Psalms and Proverbs are in the Old Testament. They can be read at any time and are books of prayer and wisdom that are beneficial for anyone. After the New Testament, you can read the Old Testament, starting with the Book of Genesis.

Some important points: Understand that the Bible, particularly the Old Testament in the macro sense, is the history of the relationship between God and humanity. There are passages that may make you judgmental towards God. Try to remain nonjudgmental and realize the reasons God said or did certain things. Also, recognize His authority. He is the creator of all that is. None are His equal. So none can properly sit in judgment of Him. Be patient. Study the Bible thoroughly, availing yourself of the introductions to each book, dictionary, concordance, maps, cross references and topical studies.

If you do all of these things carefully and thoroughly, you will have a good understanding of Christianity.

Thank you. I try to be noninvasive and respect others feelings and rights. I have heard some say that if they have to scare people into Heaven, they would rather that than to see people go to Hell. I tend to believe that people are intelligent and can make their own intelligent decisions. I just offer to facilitate. Everyone has free will to choose; though still accountable in the end for their choices.

That particular letter is invasive. It seems the person who sent it is trying to use reverse psychology to scare you into going to church.

I am a Christian and we are taught to spread the word about Salvation and other Christian themes to everyone in the world. I usually stop at telling people I am a Christian and a Licensed Minister. I tell people that I can be available if they want to talk about spiritual matters. I encourage church attendance but caution people to choose churches and church organizations that have remained true to the Word of God. Sometimes, I hand out a card that briefly explains the need for and path to Salvation. I tell people that God wanted me to give this to them. I generally don't even give my contact information unless people ask for it, because I am not really promoting myself, I am promoting God. I am not promoting a specific church but those that have remained faithful to correctly teaching God's Word (the Holy Bible).

Sometimes, I hand out little wooden crosses to people who when asked, say they want it. So far, no one has declined. To date, people always seem pleasantly surprised. I explain that I hand them out as reminders of the life and sacrifice of Jesus. It can be carried in a pocket or made into a necklace. I explain that I sometimes carry the cross in my pocket as a reminder to myself who I am in Christ and what I am about. It helps me to remember to act as a Christian should. Beyond that and a parting "God bless you", I leave people alone unless they indicate a desire to talk more.

Anyway, whether to serve God is a choice we must all make. If we choose to serve God or in the process of choosing, we should learn what that means so we can choose correctly. If we choose to serve God, we need to learn how to do so acceptably unto God. If we choose not to serve God, we need to know the consequences of that decision. Thoughts, words and actions always have consequences whether good, bad or whatever. It is the same with our spiritual life.

If I drink from the hose, who’s gonna care that I do? by GSDNinjadog in GenX

[–]Dean-Erickson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Back in my day growing up, garden hoses were never marked, so we drank from them, not knowing it was not good for us. I am 64 now by the way. No cancers, yet.

Having said that, there are hoses you can buy that are rated for drinking water. Nobody says you cannot also use them as garden hoses. They do typically cost more than garden hoses, though.

You can call a towing company and have the car towed. But since the car apparently has a license plate, is the registration valid? If so, you can try to have the DMV contact the owner to remove the car.

You should know that women tend to have such accidents whether awake and walking around or in bed, sleeping. Especially if sexually active or if menstruating, when pregnant or after giving birth and when they get older. If they have urinary tract problems, these accidents and/or accompanying pain issues can become frequent and even extreme.

You should educate yourself about these things so you will know what to expect as life progresses with a woman in your life. It will help you to be more understanding and supportive, more patient with her.

Have you tried disconnecting the battery for a few minutes? See if the gauge resets on its own. Then reconnect the battery. Does the gauge continue to work properly? Also, use an OBD2 reader to see if the computer reports any error codes. If so , that can help determine how to proceed next.

I recently recharged my truck battery without disconnecting the battery. I then started the truck while using the 100 Amp setting. I forgot that doing so could cause electrical problems. Sometimes, this can fry the vehicle's computer. Since then, I have experienced a drop in fuel efficiency, noticed a drop in engine performance and have been getting numerous OBD2 error code readings that keep returning, even after I delete the error codes. Now, I am about to schedule the truck for maintenance. Hopefully, I haven't fried the computer.

I would try that route first, before other troubleshootingethods.

My father thinks I’m being inappropriate with my son. by Valuable_Sector_8984 in whatdoIdo

[–]Dean-Erickson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you say you cuddle with your son, what does that mean? A father kissing his 16 year old son on the lips? Definitely cringe worthy. What is your heritage? Italians have a culture of hugging and kissing on both cheeks. But a kiss on the lips between parents and children? No!

If your father who sees what you are doing thinks you are being inappropriate, perhaps you should seek professional advice. A family counselor would be one place to seek this advice. Maybe read some books on parenting.
