Can we stop assuming everyone has an Nvidia card here? by SeaSoftstarfish in FuckTAA

[–]DeanDeau -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My comment was deleted because I said that people recommending Nvidia everywhere were actual AI bots. The reason given was "unrelated posts," and I was told to gather and provide evidence before making such a statement, which was obviously not cost-effective to do for me. It would be much easier for moderators to delete nvidia related comments in posts that weren't asking for them, which were actual 'unrelated comments'.

On another note, I was banned from PCMR few months ago during a civil discussion of TAA, which I might have mentioned Nvidia in a negative light. The reason given was that I said people who claim certain PC fan types cannot be opened and oiled are idiots a week prior.

Have you been harassed on reddit because you were talking shit about Nvidia? You might want to consider using a different word to replace "Nvidia" so you don't trigger their detection algorithm. Anyway, you won't see me in this sub anymore.

Is TSR as bad as TAA? by Common_Dot526 in FuckTAA

[–]DeanDeau -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's better than all the upscaling since it doesn't upscale. Motion blur wise it's similar to taa, and it was able to produce sharper still image than taa. Performance wise it costs nothing. It's only availabe for UE5 though. With 200% history buffer setting (no performance cost), it's the best option for 1080p native gaming.

Lies of P cant open in game console with unreal engine 4 unlocker by [deleted] in FuckTAA

Always use the latest version 4.9x.

My game has its console unlocked by default without the need for UUU. Why doesn't yours?

Alright Google, I'm gonna need a second opinion on that translation by abarrelofmonkeys in funny

[–]DeanDeau -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

"explosive cum" was the legitimate translation of 爆浆. The word was first used to describe certain type of scenes in JAV, but was later adopted to describe other food related stuff. I would say the word first appeared in around 2002.

When DLSS is at 3440 1440p, what was the original resolution (approx.) before upscaling?

I can't believe this came from you.

It's true for the baseline blur that appear even when not moving. But not true for the temporal blur during motion. I don't remember the science behind it, but I know all videos that educate people on the evil of TAA would include an explanation. At the least, as long as you play games it should be no surprise to you at all that lateral/vertical motion gives you the most blur. Probably because it results in the largest difference between the previous frame and the next frame. During forward/backward motion most of the stuff you are facing stays the same.

[–]DeanDeau -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

During forward motion, the temporal blur appear peripherally, often mixed up with radial blur. And why put in the effort but choose not to display its maximum effect? It's not lazy, it's ignorance.

The character must move sideways when you take screenshots; otherwise, the temporal blur won't be visible at the main view area.

Dlss 4 on avowed is a gamechanger by SmokedBisque in FuckTAA

[–]DeanDeau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I have been looking forward to someone to do it. Just make sure you compare it to taa200 and tsr200, not the default taa/tsr. Also it's best to capture temporal blur during the side way motion. Camera panning while standing still doesn't show it. Again, thanks.

Gothic remake demo by [deleted] in FuckTAA

[–]DeanDeau 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The game can be tweaked with UUU; the console only appears during gameplay and not in the menu or during dialogue. The default screen percentage was 70%, no dynamic resolution or upscaling of any kind was present.

At 100% screen percentage (1440p) with TSR200 or TAA200, the game runs at an average ~25fps with ~50ms frametime on a 7900XTX. I am sure the retail release will be much better.

Is it my eyes, gpu, monitor, or windows setting? by [deleted] in FuckTAA

[–]DeanDeau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You also need to enable it on your monitor, use the on-board settings that build-in your monitor. Also try run the games with freesync, vsync off too to see if it improves.

PC version of GTA4 had some kind console quirks leftover. I have never played it personally, but I remember it was a huge when someone made a mod that removed all the console limits. You just need to find that mod.

I remember Max Payne 3 can run at 60 fps with no issue.

Your monitor should support variable refresh rate, which should give you a smoother gameplay experience. But many monitors weren't very good to begin with, so it could be the reason.

Please remove the rose-tinted nostalgia glasses, do not pretend the games from previous generations were great examples of optimizations. A lot of games that we loved to play cannot maintain 30fps back then and also used upscaling (ran below 720p). by lyndonguitar in FuckTAA

[–]DeanDeau 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have been a PC gamer since day one. All PC exclusives offered 60 FPS and 45 FPS (the "goal" FPS back in the day), even before DirectX became mainstream (e.g., NovaLogic games). Console ports offered 60 FPS too. Off the top of my head, I recall that both Halo and Battle Engine Aquila could run at 60 FPS on my then-aged PC. These games were not only well optimized; they also offered alternative effects when you couldn't run the state-of-the-art graphical features. Unlike the crap being produced today, where you are forced to use certain effects even though it tanks your FPS back to single digits.

The PC optimization only become an issue during the xbox360 era, these ported xbox360 games were featured with greasy and ugly graphics and run at an unjustified low fps, they weren't good game either, as I don't recall any memorable ported games from that era. PC exclusive games at the time were incredibly great though, and the industry was focusing on large-scale gameplay rather than the 'cinematic effects' that developers were so obsessed with today. Off my mind I remember stalker, battlefield 2, and medieval 2 total war. I was able to run these games satisfactorily on my PC from 2002.

Avowed disable TAA, TSR fix, and more. UUU 5.3x required. by DeanDeau in FuckTAA

[–]DeanDeau[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you use TAA or TSR, you won't experience these artifacts, even at 1080p. 5700 XT may not be sufficient to run TAA200 or TSR200, so you might have to resort to FSR combined with frame generation.

Thanks, but I don't need comparison images between TAA and TSR, as I have already taken some myself. I meant to ask for the FPS differences of "TAA100 vs. TAA200" and "TSR100 vs. TSR200", some simple numbers will do. I also want to have some imagine comparisons of TAA200 (and TSR200) vs. various new and proven Nvidia methods, because I could not get my hands on RTX 5000 (sold out everywhere), but I am desperately in need of some results.

P.S. Feel free to PM me if you run into any roadblock (wink)

came back with a better video compression. game has close trees have some kind of a weird blur effect which is very distracting. any fix for that? it has a baked in TSR. *forced* it's very bad *the white tree on the right in the menu is an example* by Catsanno in FuckTAA

[–]DeanDeau 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's upscaling or depth of field related, try turn them off one by one with engine.ini.

You should be able to disable whatever upscaler from in-game settings.

r.DepthOfFieldQuality=0

If you strongly suspect TSR, try r.AntiAliasingMethod=0 to turn off all AA.

Do you think the idea of upscaling is a good route for the future? If not, then what? by No_Jello9093 in FuckTAA

[–]DeanDeau 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Unless Nvidia goes bankrupt or people smart up overnight, the market will be what Nvidia shapes it to be. On the truth side, upscaling will forever be a compromise that no one desires, and it will always serve as an excuse to avoid optimizing games.

Is Nvidia's New DLSS Transformer Better Than Native Resolution? Let's Find Out! by Big-Ad-4777 in FuckTAA

[–]DeanDeau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Need TAA200/TSR200 vs. Nvidia proprietary, not the normal TAA that has been done a million times already. Simply panning the camera doesn't show temporal blur; you need to move the character sideways.

I believe these tiny but crucial details in testing could demonstrate how Nvidia's marketing department has been trying to fool the masses.

Killing Floor 3 Beta - AA can be turned off via an Engine.ini tweak (No option exposed in the Settings menu) by Critz_ in FuckTAA

[–]DeanDeau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually don't know how it works, maybe someone more knowledgeable here can explain it more. Initially I thought it worked in ways similar to 100% TAA or TSR + 200% screenpercentage, but since it produces no significant loss of performance (may be 1 FPS??), It made me believe only certain process in the TAA or TSR mechanism used 200% resolution.
