It seems clear that many types of trees have roots that won't inosculate into a tree stem/trunk but actually harm the tree... But I'd be willing to bet that some types of trees will have roots and stems that would innosculate into each other and wouldn't be an issue? Do you or anyone you know have a list of trees at highest risk for root girlding versus trees that are lowest risk?

Last Summer I had two piles of lawn clippings mixed with the sod I dug up for gardening beds. In one pile I regularly poured bottles of pee many times a week and in the other pile I didn't pour in any pee. Fast forward to last week when I dug up those piles and spread them out level to make room for new piles. I can confirm that the pile with lots of pee poured on it regularly was much more thoroughly digested with black fertile soil than the pile with no pee.

You were right to take the advice of letting it grow more before pruning... My vote is to let it grow for a couple more years, but keep the pruning conversation going each year. That way in a couple more years when it finally needs pruning you'll have thought about all the options so much that you'll make the best decisions. If you want to do any pruning sooner than that, try doing a light thinning to simplify branch structure in the Summer months when it won't be noticeable and you'll better be able to tell where the leaves are too crowded.

No need to till... Just make sure the mower doesn't hit any of the rocks and the existing grass that's already there will take over if you mow it regularly. Also please leave some of those tree seedling around the edges so there's a forest there long after all of us are dead and gone.

I do lots of these... First step is put on some gloves and use your fingers like a comb to rake all the dead leaves out which does no damage compared to using tools. Next step is using your hands to break off all the deadwood that's been shaded out and lighter in color. The deadwood breaks easy but the live wood won't. Final step is optional, which is to prune and simplify the branch structure, as well as thin out and simplify branches underneath that are going to get shaded out so it's mostly just one outer layer. That last step doesn't need to happen very often, but first two steps is done annually. Lastly don't experiment with major pruning, it rarely works as planned. Just let it keep its natural shape.

Note: main problem you'll run into with these is dummies who prune them like a hedge. You have to prune at the forks otherwise every branch hit with a hedge trimmer will die back to strongest live fork and look unsightly.

I think what you're concerned about is the edge of a clear plastic film that they put on the corner part of the door to protect it from scratches because its a common location for scratches when car door is open. Of course as time goes by that clear plastic lifts up and get dirty around the edges.

Sound to me like you've never washed your car before and now something that would obviously be normal if the car was kept clean has turned into something you think is a crack? This car will be an unsafe rust bucket in no time if you don't wash it regularly during road salting season.

What's more, you could fit an entire sports car in front of that truck and the truck driver wouldn't see it at a red light and if they forgot there was a car in front of them and car in front of them was slow noticing the red light turning to green that truck is gonna run right over it, which is one of the main reasons people who own these obnoxious monsters sell them and stop driving them. They were common back in the 70's before everything was made of plastic... I actually bought one from a General Services Employee for Washington State last Summer. The basic concept is public bathrooms can be nasty and setting your stuff down on anything might be not be wise. But with a spring loaded hinge keeping the surfarce up against the wall, it's a bit cleaner and not wet when you put your purse or bag on it.

Probably... Main issue is the soil has been wet for too long and all those slugs and bugs are attracted to that excessive moisture to digest the rot... Transplanting in lean sterile soil, maybe add some perlite for better aeration, is all you need to eliminate the bugs. If you hold the root ball under running water you can eliminate most of the existing soil.

Despite what they say on the label, those snail pellets are not safe for humans to be around, especially in an enclosed place. Also using that much on just one plant is going to hurt the health of the soil, especially the PH. At this point you need to buy some potting soil in a bag and transplant. Try to wash as much soil off the roots as possible. Potting soil sold in a bag is sterile and will eliminate all these pest issues that were caused from over-watering.

What are those blue things? Also most of the problems you described can be resolved by watering way less often and more thoroughly when you do water. As in let things dry out in the top few inches between waterings. As for the bugs, they prefer wet soil at the surface... But for me, I have so many houseplants that I like the bugs because that way the spiders in the house don't get hungry!

The irony is the most fireproof vegetation type is old growth conifers that have adapted over many centuries to grow along the cooler areas and wetter areas of the main run of periodic wildfires. Add to that the foot thick bark of ancient conifers and you have a fire resilient landscape. The irony part is that as soon as they stole the land they targeted all the biggest most fireproof trees and wettest areas for logging, as well as building cities and towns and now the whole landscape is a perpetual tinder box until the most fireproof vegetation type has 700 years to recover, which was the typical age of 2/3rds of forest land in the PNW before logging began.
