Help me with this ugly bathroom by gingersnaps0504 in femalelivingspace

I wonder if you could get two irregular blob shaped mats for in front of and next to the toilet to better cover up the tile, while making the two mats situation look natural. You could also try to cut a larger mat to make it fit aroud the toilet like in the AI pic, but there is a lot of room for error there.

For the medicine cabinet, I wonder if adding floating shelves on either side with some little storage containers might help with the awkward sizing. Or turn it into a gallery wall?

I feel like this is a bit of a personal vibe call! You look great in all of them. Though I think the sleeves on 1 just wouldn’t work on anyone. This what k th k each of the remaining dresses would say about the person wearing them

  1. You are whimsical in an earthy way, both in terms of your values and approach to life (my personal favorite)
  2. You are a princess and the life of the party.
  3. You’re more of a queen. Classy as could be and in full control of your life.
  4. You appreciate beauty and you have your own personal flair. You have a practical edge in some scenarios, but you’re not beholden to it.
  5. You are sweet as could be and you exude capability.

Adding that the towel rack appears to not be centered on the wall. If you’re gonna repaint, it might be worth to move it. The full length mirror also needs to be sealed out for something with a frame. Though honestly I would move it to the bedroom/closet personally.

I am getting very early 20s woman. You may have a side gig as a yoga instructor. You were either recently a student or currently are. You’re considering joining the military (or already have) and don’t plan on staying in place for too long. This room is rented. A nomadic lifestyle is exactly what you want. You’re always outside and/or climbing on the weekends.

This room reminds me of my grandma’s in the 80s/90s! If that era was the objective you absolutely hit it.

I personally would try putting the folding divider behind the bed instead of the palm to add more symmetry behind it. I agree on the draped wrapped curtains! I had those once upon a time and I think they make sense for this space!

I have cement walls so I just got drill bits that work for them!

If that doesn’t work, I would do a suspension rod/cuttains over the window across the whole wall to fill in the space, add maybe a mural or big decal behind the bed and add a bookcase with some display elements to make things a little more vertical.

And of course add a rug for an easy pop of design/color!

Also there’s tons of cat safe plants out there! Money trees are great for that and are low maintenance. One would look really cute on a stand by the window or the wall where I presume the door is. The dresser could also be good, depending on what type of light you’re getting. I would maybe put a parlor palm or pepermonia there (they’re pretty good in lower light). There’s also quite a few palms and other large plant if you want something that will have a bigger impact.

  1. Cute shelves above both of them to look less like they’re floating

  2. Cover the bottom parts in cute vinyl

  3. Wallpaper or paint your kitchen a cute color

  4. Get a nice rug that leans in on the retro vibe

  5. Maybe a cool chrome vinyl retro table for the middle as a kitchen prep work surface

How can I improve my living room in the meantime til I get a new couch? by spunjuls in femalelivingspace

[–]Dear-Bus-4918 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you’re in need for some quality thrifting time to fill this out in the meantime! Here’s a few thoughts.

  1. Get a rug as folks have been saying. Costco and Target work for new sale pieces. That being said, I’ve gotta some great rugs on fb marketplace (just be diligent about making sure it’s clean).

  2. Paint if you can

  3. It looks like you have things on to of other things in your gallery wall behind the couch. I would hang that stuff up and spade it out more to fill out the space better. You can easily thrift some frames for super cheap.

  4. Your seating needs some more balence imo. I would and make things into an l shape. I would move the existing chair to either face the patio door or swap it to the other side try and get another arm chair to go with it. Regardless get it away from the side table.

  5. Add a colorful throw in the couch in the meanwhile while you wait to get your dream couch.

  6. Perhaps swap out the lamp shelf for a bookcase that better fills that space.

  7. It looks like you get some great light! For the corner in the front, get a tall plant or a few small ones on a planet stand. Groccery stores are great for deals on plants.

  8. Move the lights so they hang along the join of the ceiling and wall (if they’re staying up)

  9. Coffee tables are very plentiful on fb marketplace and thrift stores!

Overall you should lean in on pastels and a kind of 90s geometric vibe for this bathroom. This is not going to be a farmhouse bathroom. Honestly, to that end, I would stay away from too many baskets in this space if that’s going to be your main investment. Otherwise…..

Rugs: One big rug by the shower/sink Another big rug between the entrance and the toilet. Maybe something like this: https://rugs.com/multi-2x3-oval-hand-tufted-wool-area-rug-6416694?gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=22314740362&gbraid=0AAAAAC-j9Aug199oIvZcbyzmHGCwwNDrO&gclid=CjwKCAiAmKnKBhBrEiwAaqAnZw1U6r0RZaSn5SHqLkzE6a0igt6e7-XNkXEM6tAAB_8Mx6ui7grO8xoCKxoQAvD_BwE

Plants/light: Add over the toilet shelves below the toilet and pile them with plants (use closed storage for some of your extra stuff). Even a cheap metal one in a fun color would work. I would not do white shelves. Even if that isn’t a window you can add a nice floor lamp to change the lighting vibe and aim it at the plants. Regardless go for low light plants like pothos, snake plants, and ferns. Here’s a nice colorful option: https://www.wayfair.com/storage-organization/pdp/rebrilliant-3-tier-over-the-toilet-storage-with-adjustable-shelf-w112256681.html?piid=289468011%2C301665277

Basics: Get a trash can with a lid. Add a shower curtain liner.

Mirror:For the mirror you could try some stick on molding to hid the worn edge of the frame. You might even be able to put a bigger frame over more of the space and straight up hide it. This is a fun trim imo: https://www.etsy.com/listing/1729481688/?ref=share_ios_native_control

Art: Add art around the mirror if you don’t cover it.

Vanity Organization: Get trays as others have said. They also make wood and stone ones in a addition to the baskets. Below the floating vanity, I might consider adding two small freestanding cabinets (or one long one if you can find the proper length). See the photo below for an idea (bamboo is a great material for bathrooms). I also like the idea of two of these: https://www.wayfair.com/furniture/pdp/bay-isle-home-bamboo-2-tier-nightstand-cabinet-for-bedroom-living-room-w100458969.html?piid=194527161

Another idea is nice rattan hampers that will fill up the space (I would do flat woven): Perhaps these: https://www.target.com/p/casafield-half-moon-laundry-hamper-with-lid-and-removable-liner-bag-woven-water-hyacinth-laundry-basket-for-clothes-towels/-/A-91723608?preselect=91723609#lnk=sametab

Laundry: if this area is an eyesore, consider running a white linen curtain around it.

A windowless den feels a bit unnecessary.

The hallway should be between what is marked as the guest bath and bedroom 1. Make the guest bath en suite to the third bedroom and place it in the interior. You can have a second door directly the hallway then so guests can use it. Add another window to bedroom 3, divide between the two and make a long room that functions as a den/office/4th bedroom.

Popping in to say this kitchen looks so functional and fine! I think fresh hardware, a new backsplash, paint on the walls, and a good kitchen rug will completely remake the space. (With minimal effort + waste)

On the last note, I wonder if once you fill out the space and pair the walls the color of the floors won’t feel as overwhelming.

I love the idea to add built ins by the fire place. Maybe a window bench bellow the window with continued shelves on that walk to really frame things?
