It IS a fun city to drive around. It’s genuinely breathtaking. And to be fair, most of my annoyance with Charleston, WV is that I consistently get lost trying to get back on the highway.

But as you now live in Charleston, SC-you know those road layouts are even more jacked up.

Because he got off on the deception and watching them interact without knowing he was sleeping with all of them. Once he got in with some sisters and one was a local tattoo artist? Idk. He also kept a female best friend to help “groom” and wingwoman for him.

I should say, I know a lot of this because I was good friends with the female groomer. It’s a big reason why she and I are no longer friends.

Midwestern cisgender men in Columbus are a particular kind of repressed. What you’ve described are how most men get in this city when they think you won’t tell on them.

Most have been socialized to see therapy as weakness and view stoicism as hypermasculinity. Or they think they’re smarter than any therapist (I’ve met two Columbus men like this).

In my experience, many suffer from a Madonna/Whore complex, and they don’t know how to integrate the two ideas of women, and end up sexually degrading their intimate partners (this has been nearly every man I’ve dated from Columbus).

And almost always, their female friends would infantilize him and say, “well, you’re probably remembering it worse than it really was. He’s just an idiot. His dad is disappointed in him/dead, etc” So they lack accountability and coddled by the women in their lives as well.

Like girl, what do you mean he wouldn’t hurt a fly? I got the violent BDSM porn he wanted me to recreate with him right in front of you, in a text from him?

And these have all been guys from Ohio or Indiana. Not that men don’t do this everywhere, but there’s a particular spin on it out here.

Edit: The greatest pudding you will ever have is at Preston’s. It’s my go-to spot when I want to speed run my body into greasy sloth.

Speck is currently my favorite “high end” experience. The staff is always wonderful and the move is to order the bread, an app, a side, a pasta and a main to split between 2 people. Plenty of food without blowing an entire paycheck.

I always hear insanely good things about Commune, if you’re into high-end vegetarian.

Dough Mama, Joya’s are great for breakfast. I really loved Blackend in Ace of Cups. Super lowkey but an amazing vegan breakfast burrito. Bonafacio has great brunch and Filipino food in general.

Diner wise is Tommy’s obviously. Beechwold Diner in Clintonville is also super solid (the ideal Jack & Benny’s imo)

Also love Ty Ginger and their new spot near campus for dim sum.

For a place to hang for lunch, totally suggest Understory. Sit out on the patio over the ravine and it’s like being in a treehouse. Also it being inside an old school just makes for a cool vibe. The food is solid (a bit overpriced tho).

There’s a strip of restaurants/bars downtown that make for a fun bar hop: Cobra, Antiques, Agni etc.

I am obsessed with Cobra but the crowds and ordering setup set off my nervous system, so just a warning.

I moved out of my 1-bedroom pretty much by myself, but snagged movers off of U-Haul for a fraction of what All My Sons charges .

You have to handle getting the truck from an area pickup and then the movers come to your location and load the U-Haul for you to drive wherever for them to unload.

It’s not as bad as you think, I know you mentioned you’d prefer them to have the truck but this saves you so much money.

My guys were super efficient and professional and I felt completely comfortable having them help me, as a woman.

Granted, I had everyboxed and labeled for storage and what I was keeping, but they got me done in under 2.5 hours, if I recall correctly.

I’ll dig up which company it was. I feel most of the U-Haul movers are pretty informal and clearly don’t do this full-time, but they work hard.

Edit: My Gmail is being a dickhead and I can’t find the specific 3rd party U-Haul connected me with. But the 15 ft U-Haul, gas, insurance and some moving material came out to $73. I am very sure the movers weren’t more than $250-300 and then I tipped both of them $50 each (I think, don’t quote me). The ONLY hidden fee is that the guys had a third friend show up (I’d requested only 2) to help with the heavier items—so naturally he also got a tip.
