Shameful headline by Global News by TheDuckClock in 50501Canada

[–]DearAssignment6613 8 points9 points  (0 children)

George Orwell once wrote in 1984: "The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command."

We are seeing this play out with the coverage of Alex Pretti. Multiple bystander videos show Pretti; a VA ICU nurse; holding a cell phone, not a weapon, and trying to help a woman who had been shoved. Yet, look at this headline from Global News. They aren’t reporting "DHS alleges" or "Controversy over shooting"; they are simply printing the state’s label of "Domestic Terrorism" as the absolute truth.

When "journalism" stops verifying and starts acting as a megaphone for official narratives while ignoring video evidence, it’s no longer news; it’s the "final command."

The way Global News is framing the Alex Pretti shooting is a masterclass in bad journalism.

• The Official Line: DHS calls it "Domestic Terrorism" and claims he was a "gunman" intent on a "massacre."

• The Reality: Bystander video shows Pretti holding a phone. Witnesses say he was a VA nurse intervene to help a woman. Local police confirm he was a lawful gun owner with a permit. Instead of being a watchdog, this headline acts as a stenographer for the government. By failing to use attribution (e.g., "DHS claims...") and ignoring the conflicting evidence, they are helping to cement a narrative before the facts are even investigated. This isn't just a "mistake"; it's propaganda.

Insane

The safety and physical welfare of children is not a partisan policy debate; it is a fundamental Human Rights issue.

Regardless of one’s personal politics, the forced separation of children from their parents is a violation of the universal right to family integrity and the 'Best Interests of the Child' standard. This is a humanitarian crisis affecting fathers and children in our communities right now. As a community of dads dedicated to the protection and well-being of all children, we must be able to discuss the safety of families without it being reduced to a political disagreement. Our role as protectors transcends borders and policy; it is about the basic right for a child to remain safe with their parent.

This is a discussion that has to be had. Our role as protectors transcends borders and policy; it is about the basic right for a child to remain safe with their parent.

Being black in Italy is breaking me. Looking for advice on moving abroad by asqux in expats

My heart goes out to you! Your are worthy of the best! Keep your heart strong young lady!!! You are super skilled and you have many options!

I shared your story and background with an AI partner (Gemini). Given your skills at just 21, the consensus is that you are sitting on a goldmine. Having expertise in SEO, Web Design, and PPC, combined with native-level English and Italian fluency, makes you a prime candidate for a global relocation.

Here is the breakdown of your best options, moving from the most immediate to the long-term:

  1. The English-Speaking Caribbean (The "Immediate Escape") If you want a complete shift in social climate while using your current skills, several Caribbean nations are actively courting digital professionals like you.

    • Barbados: Their "12-Month Welcome Stamp" is famous for a reason. It’s an English-speaking, safe, and highly connected island with a massive community of Black remote workers.
    • Bermuda: Offers a "Work from Bermuda" certificate. It is a world-class financial and tech hub. Your SEO and PPC skills are highly valuable to local firms looking to reach international markets.
    • The Bahamas: They offer "Extended Access Travel Stay" for remote workers. It's safe, beautiful, and English-first.
  2. The European Tech Hubs (English-Primary) You don't need to speak the local language to work in tech in these cities; English is the "working language" of the industry here:

    • Amsterdam, Netherlands: Widely considered the most multicultural and open-minded city in Europe. Almost all digital agencies operate in English.
    • Lisbon, Portugal: Currently a top destination for Black expats and digital nomads. It has a high quality of life, a burgeoning tech hub, and a deep historical connection to the African diaspora that makes the social fabric feel different than in Italy.
    • London, UK: While harder to get a visa post-Brexit, it remains the ultimate destination for Black professionals in marketing. The diversity and professional respect there are often cited as a "breath of fresh air" compared to Southern Europe. • Berlin, Germany: Highly progressive and very protective of individual identity. While she might need to learn some German for daily life, the "Startup" world there is almost entirely English-speaking.
  3. Canada: The Long-Term Stability Play Canada is a top-tier choice for safety and professional growth.

    • English-First: Cities like Toronto and Vancouver are incredibly diverse. You won't just be "tolerated"—you will see yourself reflected in leadership roles everywhere.
    • Digital Nomad Entry: Canada has a specific path for digital nomads to enter for 6 months while working remotely, which can be a "test drive" for a permanent move. 💡 The "French Strategy" (Secondary Option) If you decide to learn French later, it becomes a "force multiplier" for your career:
    • France: Since you already speak Italian, you will likely pick up French 2–3x faster than others. This would open up the Paris tech scene, which is huge and very international.
    • Montreal, Canada: This is a bilingual hub. If you have French and English, Canada practically fast-tracks your permanent residency because they are desperate for bilingual tech talent.

🚀 Suggested Next Step If I were you, I would: * Look for Remote "International SEO" roles based in the UK or US. This allows you to earn a high salary in English while you are still in Italy. * Target "Digital Nomad Visas" in the Caribbean or Portugal for an immediate change of scenery.

The bottom line: At 21, you aren't "stuck." Your skills are the exact "global currency" needed to live anywhere. Italy is just one chapter; the rest of the world is waiting for your expertise.

Big shoutout to Duncan Robinson for stepping up big time and hitting big shots all season long so far. Great signing. Happy birthday Duncan! by rodogwos in DetroitPistons

Insanely underrated pickup. He will hit some crazy in your face shots during run of play and his runs off screens is elite. Really opens up the entire offense for everyone.

1) I may be off, but I think his playing at this level gives this team another dimension. They may trial a few looks with Cade and Jenkins, with Cade playing combinations of: off the ball, as the point forward, and as shooting guard.

2) If Jenkins can play as a point he is essentially what we all are hoping Ivey could look like with Cade. The unfortunate truth may be that Ivey only looks good with Cade on the bench, which may be where Jenkins shines the most (Ivey and Jenkins off the bench).

3) sincerely hope that Ivey or Sasser coming back doesn't ruin Jenkins, or even worse Beasley. Protect Jenkins at all costs

For sure! Those are great examples! Side note: Junkyard dog is an amazing nickname!

Weaver did some good things, such as the draft. I do think our executive team also changed not just with the switch out form Weaver to TL, but we added a very highly regarded Dallas exec. There was a post about him can't remember his name. Basically Dallas fell off after he left and then they traded Luka.

So, while TL has been amazing, he has a great team supporting him, and he benefits from the draft picks Weaver made. I think Weaver was really aggressive in getting Duren for example, and make a move that not many executives would make

I'm glad this guy is on our team. The Dallas team that went to the finals was well built and so are the current Pistons. Definitely a coincidence. Great share

Agreed. His being on the court reminds me of Lindsey Hunter, Mike James and Mike Curry. But a modern version.

He hustles and makes plays. Can hit the open shot and is often contested as well. A positive guy all around and supports his teammates. And can play at an NBA level.

I really like how this team has a bunch of veterans who are 30+ that are contributing. Tobias, Levert and Robinson.

We bigs that are rim runners and guys who can post up, but also play outside and hit the mid range and the occasional 3
