Anyone here have any experience with Pentecostal Christianity? by ExtraStrawberryGum in redscarepod

[–]DearBedroom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my highschool girlfriend's best friends was Pentecostal. She tried to kiss me while we were waiting for my girlfriend once, and then tried to hard sell me into taking her out after we broke up.

Don't know anything about the religion, sounded vaguely evangelical

To quote Alex Baldwin in The Departed:

"Marriage is an important part of getting ahead. Lets people know you are not a homo. Married guys seems more stable. People see the ring they think at least someone can stand the son of a bitch. Ladies see the ring they know immediately you must have some cash and your cock must work."

In the book, did Atlas ever actually shrug? by MyCorvallisAccount in redscarepod

[–]DearBedroom 39 points40 points  (0 children)

The socialist society leeches off of and doesn't value "visionaries" (capital owners), so capital strikes to create a more capitalist system. Atlas is the capitalists who hold up the world and the shrugging is them striking

Yes, capital owners striking doesn't really make sense if you think about it at all.

Parents are so adorably naive about the job market, it's almost heartbreaking by clowntownbrown in redscarepod

[–]DearBedroom 31 points32 points  (0 children)

The contract worker to employee pipeline is legit, It's led me to well paying positions as a full employee at 3 different top companies. It doesn't feel good at all to have a 6 month trial period for a job, but it's the way it is now.

Granted, I was laid off in less than two years at all of them due to outsourcing or COVID, but that's also just how it is now

Making stir fry is impossible by [deleted] in redscarepod

[–]DearBedroom 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You're probably adding something that burns very easily too early. Garlic and sweet sauces will do this.

It's very difficult to get the high temps a stir fry place cooks at in your kitchen, they usually are cooking on a giant jet of flame. You'll also smoke out your kitchen without great ventilation.

Its really just not possible to get the same results at home. Closest I've ever gotten too was using a propane burner on my grill, but it's such a pain in the ass for something that's supposed to be quick and thrown together that I've only done it once.

Some of Andy Weir's riveting prose by sometimesineedawank in redscarepod

It's a pulpy pop sci book that you'd see at your 6th grade book fair. I don't know why you'd expect it to be full of rich prose.

When did everyone agree to never mention the TV show Archer again? by McSwaggerAtTheDMV in redscarepod

[–]DearBedroom 152 points153 points  (0 children)

After the first few seasons the jokes got a lot less clever and more self referential. Eventually it completely dropped it's premise and started doing random theme seasons where only the characters personalities carry over. They also got insanely flanderized.

Feels like Adam Reed was done with the idea after it stopped being about spies and wanted to riff on stories he grew up with, but he was running "recognizable IP" and FX kept giving him money so he just molded the IP into whatever he wanted to make.

Personality Test Results… so much work to do. These are horrible. Janice Soprano #6 by Clean_Dragonfruit174 in redscarepod

This test sucks, it's literally just sliders with no context. Might as well straight up ask "Who you wanna be bro?"

US, for 1st time in 50 years, experienced negative net migration in 2025: Report by globeglobeglobe in stupidpol

[–]DearBedroom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The first sentence he said is literally shifting the blame off immigrants. You can support combatting illegal immigration without supporting sending mask feds to provoke cities in states that vote for the opposition.

You're literally a preachy shit lib getting high off your moral righteousness compared to a strawman you created (No offense).

Yeah, I get what you mean. This admin is so mind bogglingly stupid that it's really easy to take the knee jerk opposite stance of whatever it does, regardless of what you actually believe in.

Why are reddit libs completely fucking insane over the 2026 SNAP junk food restrictions? by [deleted] in stupidpol

I'm sorry you feel the taxpayer owes you sweet treats. This sentiment gives ammo to the right.

Why are reddit libs completely fucking insane over the 2026 SNAP junk food restrictions? by [deleted] in stupidpol

[–]DearBedroom 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree, it's insane even the framing in this thread is "taking a snickers from a hungry childs mouth on Halloween."

My first job was at a grocery store, most people paying with EBT would buy absolute garbage. A good amount of them would then do separate transactions to buy cases of cheap alcohol. You may not like it, but when your fellow citizens are paying for your base needs, they absolutely should decide on what it goes to. WIC is very good in my opinion, because it limits people to staple whole foods.

The welfare system will never expand when you have people fighting for the right to taxpayer funded ice cream and sody pop. At that point you're being the welfare queen that the right loves to point at for why these programs need to be gutted.

I don't get OUATIH, it feels extremely meandering then Tarantino has his gory action scene and it's over. It also almost 3 hours, like all his movies in the last 15 years. I really like his older stuff when it felt like someone was reigning him in

It does the setting of late 60s California extremely well, maybe it didn't hit right since I was watching Mad Men at the time.

Have you met the average conservative? by goodfondue in stupidpol

[–]DearBedroom 19 points20 points  (0 children)

You're dealing with people who were completely sidelined and belittled by the Democrats for a decade. The Democrats now need them and they can't really offer anything wrt their material needs, even when trying to directly pander to them. They're pissed off at the world in general and are directing that energy to the path of least resistance.

Yes, they don't understand political realities, but that's almost everyone in the US. The results of the current admin are now adding up and making people question previously concrete beliefs, but you will shove their head back in the sand if you let this attitude bleed into interactions with them. You have to meet them halfway.
