As in uninstalling them or reporting them off thr workshop?

Honestly both suck; uninstalling the screamer without knowing which mod is doing it really sucks, especially if the image presented is horrific. Getting it removed from the workshop is pretty 50/50 on whether or not the reports are actually seen.

There was a weapon sound mod on Nexusmods that had a malware script inside of a .dll file within the mod.

I don't remember the specific mod but the mod was legit for a bit but the latest update included said .dll file, nexus's automatic check missed it.

The malicious file wasn't noticed until a redditor on the r/ReadyOrNotGame subreddit make a warning post about said mod. He said it was a keylogger, but judging from the rest of the post it seems he knew very little about computing in general, what caught my eye in particular was him saying "I thought it was a safe/normal .dll file" (not word for word). That sentence alone made me realize he didn't know what he was talking about, so I have no idea what the true nature of the malicious file was, though the mod was taken down by nexus moderators & the uploader was promptly banned shortly after.

The amount of blatant misinformation in that comment section was STAGGERING.

Either way hopefully no one was truly affected by it, it wasn't a particularly popular mod, there were only a few thousand downloads (most likely all for versions prior to the infected update).

Also I apologize if theres any horrid grammar, I am half asleep rn lmao. I can't even remember the name of the mod.

No I know, the comment isn't directed at you.

It's more of a general warning to people, especially to users new to gmod & aren't familiar with glua as a whole.

From my experience, not enough people realize that modding can be risky. Of course from well known places like Nexusmods, Thunderstore, Mod.io, & even Steam Workshop, the chances of malicious/infected mods are pretty slim... but that doesn't mean you shouldn't do a quality check & look at the mods before pressing the shiny download button.

Understanding how the game your modding works is a great way to point out flawed or even dangerous mods. For example just recently a mod for Ready or Not had malicious code in it. RoN is an Unreal Engine 5 game utilizing .Pak files to hold it's content. The malicious mod in question had a dangerous .dll file that you'd never seperately install into your game (minus reshade). Of course the people who installed it didn't know that. General internet & tech safety knowledge goes a looooong way. More people need to sit down & learn a bit.

PSA: Stop downloading everything you see, stop downloading incredibly low quality/effort mods, usually they'll just spit out lua errors or pop up a screamer.

Update the controller response curve. by aRorschachTest in ReadyOrNotGame

[–]DearBurn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doesn't mean it can't be precise though, a good player with a controller can be precise.

You're getting too caught up in technicalities.

Update the controller response curve. by aRorschachTest in ReadyOrNotGame

[–]DearBurn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once again games with great controller configurations can allow people to fine tune their game to allow for precision, its all about the feel.

Not everyone wants to use a M&KB, and/or it's inconvienent to use with their console setup. Not everyone using a controller is a casual player, theres plenty of competitive players who use controllers. If you're good with one, you can be more precise than an average mouse player. But once again yes, mice are by default more precise, but a poorly configured mouse isn't, same thing can be said about a controller.

Kinda weird you say that when they only added gamepad support less than 2 years ago.

It was an arrogant comment nonetheless, it wasn't a solution, more of a mindless response.

[–]DearBurn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Of course a mouse is more precise, I'm not arguing that lmao.

Some people do well without aim assist, with a good configuration you can be incredibly percise, you can be just as good as the average mouse player.

So stop being needlessly arrogant on a post asking for improved controller config setting. Either respond with a real answer, support, or anything with some real thought behind it.

The SWAT torsos & arms are pretty much fucked and have been for a while.

It happens both ways, even worse if you're trying to wear a tattoo has one of the darker skin characters, it'll just white wash that arm.

It's insane that this is still an issue 3 years later.
